THERE WAS A NIGHT LAMP that held Somtoo’s attention for a moment. It was on a pillar near him, at the outer part of the first floor general balconies that led the passages to all the first floor rooms. The lamp had a cuboid transparent plastic cover in which insects who loved light and played around them at night had gotten stuck in and died. Their remains remained decayed and resting in peace at the bottom of this lamp cover, looking like an accumulation of dust. This was the same for all the sixteen night lamps that gave light to the arena when the sun abandoned the sky, yet it did not inhibit the ability of these lamps to shine bright and illuminate this picturesque hostel.
