The moments stretch into what feels like an eternity, and still, she doesn’t respond, a silence that confirms my deepest fear—she is truly lost. Or so I believed. A low growl reverberates through my mind, a sound that is unmistakably Seraphina’s wolf. “Are you with me?” The voice is rough, almost primal, echoing in the recesses of my consciousness. “What?” I stammer, caught off guard by the sudden intrusion of her voice, the question itself disorienting me. “They are your people,” she doesn’t waste a second in explaining her point of view, her voice laced with a simmering rage. “My human is gone,” she confesses, and I swear my frozen heart skips a thousand beats. I had known it, deep down, but to hear it from Seraphina’s wolf herself makes this experience all too real, all too painful.
