"Are you even paying attention, Alex?" The sharpness of Brianna's voice sliced through the air, pulling Alex from his wandering thoughts. He looked up, startled, meeting her fiery gaze. "Yeah, yeah, I heard you," he mumbled, though his mind had been a thousand miles away. He raked a hand through his tousled hair, trying to focus on the task at hand. The library's musty smell filled his senses, mingling with the faint scent of her lavender perfume. Brianna sighed, a mixture of frustration and disappointment evident on her face. She leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "We need to get this project done, Alex. I can't do it all by myself." He smirked, a cocky edge to his grin. "Relax, Bri. I've got this." She rolled her eyes. "That's what you said last time, and we barely scraped by with a C. This is our final project. We can't afford to mess it up." The truth was, Alex didn't care much about the project. He had other things on his mind – parties, girls, and maintaining his status as the most popular guy in school. Being forced into this study group with Brianna, the school's infamous mute outcast, was not part of his plan. His eyes drifted to her again. Brianna was a mystery, and not just because of her silence. She had a quiet strength about her, a resilience that intrigued him. She had changed over the years, shedding the awkwardness of her younger self. Now, there was something almost... captivating about her. "Let's just get started," she said, breaking into his thoughts. "We have a lot to cover." They began working in silence, the only sounds being the scratch of pens on paper and the occasional turning of a page. Alex found himself stealing glances at her, wondering how he had missed the transformation. She wasn't the same girl he had once ridiculed. Her confidence had grown, and it radiated from her like a beacon. "Why don't you speak?" The question tumbled out before he could stop it. Brianna stiffened, her pen pausing mid-word. She glanced up at him, her eyes a storm of emotions. For a moment, he thought she might lash out, but then she simply shrugged. "I choose not to," she replied, her voice a whisper. Alex was taken aback. He had never heard her speak before. Her voice was soft, almost musical. It didn't fit with the image he had of her. "Why?" he pressed, genuinely curious. She looked away, focusing on her notes. "It's personal." He could tell the subject was closed, but he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to her story. He wanted to know more, to understand the enigma that was Brianna. But he knew pushing her would only drive her away. As they continued to work, a strange camaraderie began to form between them. It was subtle, barely noticeable, but it was there. They worked late into the evening, the library growing darker around them. "Maybe you're not so bad after all," Alex said as they packed up their things. Brianna raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on her lips. "Thanks... I think." He chuckled. "See you tomorrow, Bri." She nodded, a flicker of something passing through her eyes. "Goodnight, Alex." As he walked out of the library, Alex couldn't help but feel a strange sense of anticipation. Something was changing, and he wasn't sure if he was ready for it. But one thing was certain – Brianna was no longer the girl he once knew. She was rising from the ashes, and he couldn't wait to see who she would become. --- Brianna watched Alex leave, her heart pounding in her chest. She hadn't expected him to be so... different. The Alex she knew was a playboy, a jerk who only cared about himself. But tonight, she had seen glimpses of something more. Something that intrigued her. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. It didn't matter. She had more important things to worry about. Like surviving this elite academy as a poor transfer student. And dealing with the fact that she had caught the attention of the most dangerous person in school – the werewolf who had claimed her as his mate. Brianna sighed, gathering her books. Life was about to get a lot more complicated. --- The next day, the school buzzed with the usual chatter and energy. Brianna navigated the crowded halls with ease, her mind focused on the upcoming project presentation. She couldn't afford any distractions. As she rounded the corner, she collided with someone, her books scattering to the floor. "Watch where you're going!" a voice snarled. She looked up to see Caleb, the school's heartthrob and secretly her protector. His icy blue eyes softened when he recognized her. "Brianna, are you okay?" he asked, helping her gather her things. She nodded, avoiding his gaze. Caleb had always been kind to her, but there was an intensity in his eyes that made her nervous. "You need to be more careful," he said, his voice gentle. "Especially now." She knew what he meant. The werewolf, Adrian, had been watching her closely, and she could feel his presence everywhere she went. Caleb was one of the few who knew her secret – the hidden power she had been trying to keep under control. "I know," she whispered. "I'm trying." He touched her arm, a comforting gesture. "I'm here for you, Brianna. Always." She looked up at him, her heart swelling with gratitude. Caleb had been her rock, her confidant. But there was a part of her that longed for more than just friendship. She quickly pushed the thought away. There was too much at stake. As they stood up, Alex approached, his eyes narrowing at the sight of Caleb's hand on her arm. "Everything okay here?" he asked, his tone laced with suspicion. Caleb straightened, his expression cool. "Just making sure Brianna's alright." Alex's jaw tightened. "I can take it from here." Caleb glanced at Brianna, a silent question in his eyes. She nodded, giving him a reassuring smile. "It's fine, Caleb. I'll see you later." He hesitated, then nodded. "Take care, Brianna." As Caleb walked away, Alex turned to her, his eyes searching hers. "What was that about?" "Nothing," she said quickly. "Just a friend." He didn't look convinced, but he let it go. "Ready for our presentation?" She nodded, trying to focus on the task at hand. But her mind was a whirlwind of emotions – confusion, fear, and something else she couldn't quite name. They made their way to the classroom, where their classmates were already seated. The room fell silent as they walked in, all eyes on them. Brianna felt a pang of anxiety but took a deep breath, reminding herself that she was stronger than they thought. The presentation went smoothly, their combined efforts paying off. As they finished, the class erupted into applause. Brianna glanced at Alex, who gave her a triumphant smile. She couldn't help but smile back, a sense of accomplishment filling her. After class, Alex pulled her aside. "You were amazing, Bri." "Thanks," she said, feeling a blush creep up her cheeks. He stepped closer, his eyes locking onto hers. "I'm serious. I've never seen you like this before. You're... different." She looked away, unsure how to respond. "People change." "Yeah," he said softly. "They do." There was a moment of silence, charged with unspoken words. Then, Alex leaned in, his breath warm against her ear. "I want to get to know you, Brianna. The real you." Her heart skipped a beat. "Why?" "Because you're not who I thought you were," he admitted. "And I think... I think I might like who you're becoming." She didn't know what to say. Part of her wanted to believe him, to let him in. But another part of her was scared – scared of being hurt again, scared of trusting someone who had once been her tormentor. Before she could respond, a low growl echoed through the hallway. Brianna stiffened, recognizing the sound. Adrian. He emerged from the shadows, his eyes glowing with a predatory gleam. "Step away from her," he commanded, his voice a dangerous rumble. Alex stood his ground. "We're just talking, Adrian." Adrian's eyes flicked to Brianna, and she could see the possessiveness in his gaze. "She's mine." Brianna's pulse quickened. She had to be careful. Adrian was unpredictable, and his temper was volatile. "It's okay, Alex," she said, placing a hand on his arm. "I can handle this." He looked at her, a mixture of concern and frustration in his eyes. "Are you sure?" She nodded, giving him a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine." Reluctantly, Alex stepped back, his eyes never leaving Adrian. "I'll see you later, Bri." As he walked away, Adrian stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "What were you doing with him?" "Working on a project," she replied, keeping her voice steady. He leaned in, his breath hot against her skin. "I don't like him being near you." Brianna met his gaze, a spark of defiance in her eyes. "You don't own me, Adrian." A dangerous smile curved his lips. "Don't I?" She felt a shiver run down her spine, but she refused to back down. "No. You don't." He stared at her for
