Allison’s POV
I kept checking the security cameras around the building in case Jordan came and no one let him in.
What happened to him was devastating. It kept me thinking the whole night.
Holland destroyed him and took everything he worked very hard to build within a blink.
I still feel terrible for ignoring his email. What if I didn’t see the news that day and agreed to Holland’s partnership?
Some movement in the front lobby caught my attention, he came. He was leaning on the desk in the lobby, talking to the secretary. I called the front lobby and saw her as she picked up.
“Yes, Ms. Miller,”
“Let him in, Penelope,” I said, then hung up.
She got up and walked him to the elevator.
A few minutes later he was in my office with the secretary. He was wearing a grey suit, trying to look more formal.
“Penelope, when Clara arrives, please tell her to come to my office,” I ordered. She nodded her head and excused herself out, closing the door behind her.
“You raised the company so well, your dad would’ve been proud,” he said.
I clasped my hands together as he sat across from me. “Yeah, I achieved his dream.”
“Anyway, back to our plan, I officially reopened a new department in the company, a modeling agency.” I smiled, then continued, “dad closed it before he died when most of the models became drug addicts and alcoholics. He wasn’t strict with them,”
I got up from my comfy leather chair and leaned forward on the desk. “Since you have more experience than me,” he lifted his eyebrow as I trailed, “I want you to be in charge and then we can get an interview in a magazine to announce the collaboration,”
“Am I a charity case for you? You know what, don’t answer this.” He ran his fingers through his hair with visible frustration.
“What! No, of course not. Jordan, you are family and I already feel bad for ignoring your email, so don’t make me feel bad for helping you.” I frowned at him and he sighed, covering his face with both hands.
“We were close friends, and I ruined it, Alli.” He removed his hands and stared at his lap as he continued, “I pushed everyone away and I couldn’t even tell Pete anything because of that fucker.” He slammed his hand on the desk, making me flinch.
“I... never thought of treating you like a charity case and in case you didn’t know I had been interviewing many people for the job but all of them are trying so hard to impress me,” he broke into laughter and I was confused.
Did he lose his mind?
His laughs died down. He wiped the tears from his eyes. “You are still too picky, but my spot here isn’t permanent. When I get my agency I will leave,” he said.
I nodded. “Well, now that we are on the same page with a common enemy, let’s plan for the next move.” I opened the drawer and brought out the file I prepared earlier.
An hour passed, Jordan was telling me Holland’s weak spots and the people he had been dealing with. He had a lot of time to waste, so he watched Holland closely with the hope to catch him doing a crime that he could use as blackmail against him.
Most of the people he dealt with were con artists, they offered fake deals to small companies promising them a lot of shares, but all of them were imaginary, none of it was real.
And that’s what happened with Jordan, Scott and Holland tricked him into selling his models at a nice price. In return, he would create sportswear with Holland as a collaboration. He signed a contract with Holland and he took the signature on a selling contract.
Within a week, he lost everything. Holland was the new owner of the property and Scott was in charge of the business.
“I didn’t know Holland had a brain, from your saying he must have many lawsuits,” he shook his head in a ‘no’.
My jaw fell open, and I knitted my eyebrows. “What? How?” I asked.
“He has good lawyers, and no one cares about small businesses anyway, so he’s just another con artist on the market.” Suddenly his phone rang, and he stood up from his chair, I frowned at him.
“Where are you going?” I asked as he walked towards the door.
“My RV will be taken if I don't put it somewhere else. See you after the bachelor party.” He opened the door and rushed outside.
Bachelor party... s**t, I forgot about the party.
Crap and tomorrow was the wedding.
I was waiting for Clara to come, as we had some paperwork to do before launching the agency. She was with her grandmother today as she was very sick and she wanted to spend some time with her.
I wasn’t a cold heart b***h, so I agreed.
I texted Clara to cancel the rest of my schedule for the day; I gathered my stuff and locked the office, something I never did before as I trusted my employees. They wouldn’t steal with three security cameras on my floor, so I installed cameras in the archives room where the file was taken.
The spy will be out, eventually. I took the stairs because I had no patience to wait for the elevator and Clara’s office was two floors below mine.
I reached the destined floor and headed to her office; I heard some ruffles and peaked behind the towers of paper on the desk.
“When did you come?” I asked when I noticed Clara reading some papers.
She dropped the paper from her hand and stood up. “Five minutes ago, there’s a file among these that could help us, so I wanted to find it before heading to your office, Ms. Miller,”
“These files are old partnerships with Holland, I remember I saw something on tv about your aunt ending important partnerships with Holland,” she said as she fixed her glasses.
She was smart to remember this; I didn’t even think of their previous deals.
“I can return the stuff, Ms. Miller,” she suggested after a while of my silence.
I refused immediately. “No, you are getting extra credits if you find anything,”
She nodded with a smile; I turned to leave, then I stood by the door, remembering that I forgot to tell her something.
“Is there something wrong Ms. Miller?” Her footsteps became closer as she approached me.
“Reschedule my appointment with the doctor and you are in charge in my absence,” and with that, I left the office then headed to the garage.
There was something I had to do before going to the bachelorette party.
I was giving Jayme some time with her family as her cousins came after we scheduled the country club. That was two days ago. I didn’t want to interrupt their time together as they were on a dress hunt because they were her bridesmaids.
So, instead, I was stalking Pete, weird right? Nope, he was supposed to meet Scott and that Isaac guy.
I already googled Isaac and Europe had a lot of billionaires with the same name, so it was a dead end.
My chance to see him was at the bar they’re going to if he showed up, if not I guess I had no other choice than to wait till tomorrow to see him.
Isaac was clearly someone very important to Holland, he was his winning card.
I went home and changed into a black hoodie and matching sweatpants. I didn’t want to be spotted easily.
I stood in front of the mirror and rolled my eyes; I looked like a robber, for god’s sake.
After I was done, I left the apartment and headed to the building’s garage. As I walked to the car, I felt someone walking behind me; I stopped in place and swayed my fist at the person following me. It contacted his face, and I heard a groan, followed by a curse.
“Woman, why are you violent!” Jordan hissed as he massaged his sore cheek.
I glared at him. “Why didn’t you speak at first? I thought I was getting kidn*pped, asshole.” I smacked his hand when he reached out to comfort me.
“I’m sorry, okay and I haven't been following you for a long time. I just arrived and saw you getting out of the building,”
I narrowed my eyes at him, before rolling my eyes. Then I remembered where he was supposed to be. “Why aren’t you at Pete’s place?” I asked him.
“Yeah, that’s the problem, they took my car while I moved the RV.” He fidgeted with his fingers, I let out a sigh and walked towards the car with him following me.
“You are living with me till you afford an apartment,” I said softly.
“No, Allison, I don’t want to invade your personal space an-“
I cut him off. “Blah blah, I wasn’t asking you, I was telling you, so there are no refusals.” I turned to face him with a smile.
“Fine, I’m only staying for a month,” he said as we got in the car, and I drove to Pete’s house. After that talk, Jordan was silent for most of the ride.
He said nothing till now.
“How did you meet Scott?” He asked.
That was a random question.
“Mum set me up on a date with him. The next day I saw him at Holland’s. I told him I wasn’t free for another date and got myself out of an upcoming mess,” I said humorously.
“He didn’t know I was Allison Miller, as mom told none of her friends about her being a widow. So, it felt as if I was a normal human for one day,” Jordan focused his gaze on me as he listened.
“He told me he owned a small modeling agency, if I knew it was yours I could’ve stuffed the alive lobster in his jeans.” I chuckled at my evil thoughts and chuckled more when I noticed Jordan’s hand covering his family jewel.
“I hate the guy, but this hurts by thinking of it,” he said, closing his eyes.
“He deserves it, anyway I read your email,” I muttered.
I glanced over at him and he was playing with his cleanly shaven beard.
When did he shave? This morning he had one as far as I remembered.
I parked the car a few blocks away from Pete’s apartment. “Don’t let Scott have a chance with Isaac,” I warned him and he nodded, then he got out of the car. My eyes followed him as he walked to the vintage building.
I wanted to offer him to stay with me until he could afford a place instead of living in the RV and moving it around the city.
I checked my phone for any messages from Jayme but there was nothing, didn’t you tell her you were busy? My inner voice reminded me.
Right, I told her I had a doctor’s appointment and I won’t make it for the first stop of her bachelorette party. No feelings were hurt.
Jordan texted me that Isaac wasn’t coming. I hit the drive wheel; I had zero patience to see that guy.
“I will just go home and get ready for the party, then make a plan to approach Isaac at the wedding,” I talked to myself as I got out of the parking spot.
Why were you being mysterious, Isaac? I wondered as I drove.
I had to go back to my penthouse and get ready for the bachelorette party.
