  Elaine's triumphant voice cut through my shocked silence. "If the ring is found on her, she'll be fired immediately, right? We can't have thieves working at this station!"   I looked around desperately, searching for a friendly face who might believe in my innocence. But all I saw were suspicious glares and disappointed frowns. Even Hannah, who had been so impressed with me earlier, now looked at me with doubt.   "I didn't take the ring," I said, my voice sounding small and weak even to my ears.
