New family

Sia’s pov

“sia, wake up!” I woke up with the excited voice of Anna shouting on top of her lounge. “Wake up or mummy will come to whoop your butt.” I’m sure mom told her to say that. Never a dull moment in this house. I was going to miss them, even though I just met Anna and James. Specially mom, I finally got come to her. But driving for two hours a day to college isn’t a very good idea.

Today we were going to the college. James was going to drive us there. It’s hard to be the new student in the middle of semester. But at least it wasn’t like high school where everyone knows everything. College was different, at least I hoped so. Mom thought I decided to transfer college because I wanted to be with her finally, which was partly true. But why I came here is far from it. Mom was right about one thing, dad was powerful. He was one of the most powerful businessmen in LA. That gave him an arrogance that was hard to tame. When he talked people listened. But recently some pretty bad things came about his business. He was involve in some illegal activities, which got him in a bad place.

And to get himself out of the s**t puddle he got himself into that bustard wanted to give me to some dude who was associated to the underworld. Yes, my father! He basically told me to either get married to the man of his choice or get the hell out of his life. He thought I would forever be at his mercy. So in 8 years for the first time I called mom. She was happy to bare all the responsibilities of my transfer. I should get a job as soon as possible. I didn’t want to be dependent anyone. I was dependent on dad. Look what that got me into.

After a shower and changing into something more appropriate for the early fall wind I got downstairs. Mom was making delicious breakfast for us. “Do you have everything you need? Books, clothes….. most importantly, condoms?”

“MOM!” Oh my god! Why, oh why would she say something like that? That too in front of James and Anna. That girl is way too smart for age as it is. “Why on earth will you ask me that?”

“What? It’s not like you don’t know what to do with it. Keep those little lifesavers with you all the time. I don’t want to be a grandma so soon.”

All right then. This conversation needed to end, like right now. With a sigh I said “fine! I’ll be careful, and yes I have everything I need. Including all the necessary papers. I think we should get going soon.”

My mom looked like she didn’t want me to go. She just got me back after so long. So to reassure her I said, “I’ll try to come as often as possible, ok? Every few weekends.” It seemed to work. She was again gushing about how I should have fun but not too much fun. Something about frat boys and orgies. Her mind is a dangerous place.

After filling the trunk of a SUV’s, we all settled in the car. James and mom in the front and me and Anna in the back. I looked out the window. Just a week ago I came here, dreading to know how life will be with mom and her new family. But I feel like their family too. I just hope dad does not want to ruin it.

On the way to the campus we listened to James questionable test in music. I would forever be traumatized by those raps. But in a weird way it felt good to be close to them as in I’m also their family now. As the car rolled into the university area, I felt like I belonged here. Finally the car stopped in front of my dorm building. It was a good enough building with small windows. We got out and took one box each and went up to 3rd floor where my room was supposed to be. It took quite some time to find my room.

As we got inside, there was a girl around my age. She had curly bright ginger hair and a round face that remained me of the Disney princess’ Marida’. As soon as she say me she got out of her bed and came rushing to us to help with the boxes. “Hi. I’m Lisa. You must be the new transfer student. I’m sorry I forgot your name. I’m kind of bad with names. Anyways, it’s nice to finally have a roommate. My last roommate graduated last semester and I have been alone since then. Not that I’m complaining. I got this room to myself for sometimes. But I’m happy that you’re here.”

At this point she was just rambling. I looked at mom, then James and then Anna then we all finally look at Lisa. She stopped to take break, and as she saw as staring at her she blushed. I decided to take pity on her and introduced myself.

“I’m Alexia. But please call me Sia. This is my mom, Amanda and my step father, James. And this little cutie is called Anna.”

At the mention of her name Anna jumped and ran to Lisa.

“I know you! You are Marida!”

Lisa laughed at that, “I get that a lot.” After the initial intro we all worked to set my part of the room. It was done pretty quickly with all the extra help from Lisa. Soon it was time to say goodbye to my mom , James and Anna. I hugged them all taking extra time for mom. As they all got into the car and started it. I waved at them as their car got far and out the main entrance of the campus.

I would miss my new family.
