Chapter 1

Millicent's POV

With my past in the past I was turning eighteen in two days. Everything had to be perfect in my family. I longed more than anything for Kane to be here with me celebrating. But I never saw him again. Though my brother and sister still saw him he never wanted to see me again. I invited him to my party I hoped he would come.

Maggie my sister and Mitch my brother assured me that he said he was coming. I did not believe them though. I wanted to, trust me I did, but every time I reached out to Kane it was always pure silence. Anything I ever heard from, was from my siblings. They are best friends with Kane.

Today was my dress fitting for my party and mom woke me up bright and early for it.

“Millie, are you excited? In two days we get to celebrate you officially becoming a part of this family.” My mom said with enthusiasm in her voice.

“Mom, please don’t get too excited it’s still my choice. I haven’t fully decided on if I wanted to spend the rest of eternity on earth.” I informed her which she looked annoyed at this point.

It was custom that all adopted members of the family were to change into a vampire on their eighteenth birthday. You had the choice though, if you chose no you would be completely cut off from the family. So it was a big decision. I don’t know if I could spend all of time on earth dreaming about Kane. I was really leaning towards no. I wanted to move on. Kane was not worth my pain and suffering. He’s all I could think about though. We had this connection and bond. I just wanted to be with him.

“Alright it’s breakfast time and then we’ve got your final fitting for your dress.” Mom said interrupting my thoughts.

I roll my eyes and get up to get dressed.

The dress fitting went great I didn’t need anymore alterations so all I needed to do was finish out the next two days and I’d be eighteen.

I sat on my bed looking at the clock on my phone 11:59, one minute until my birthday. All day I had been feeling ill and I was hoping I’d feel better before the night of my party tomorrow. However it seems the closer I get to midnight the worse I was feeling.

“Midnight, happy birthday to me I guess.” Were the last words I said before I started to feel intense pains like every bone in my body was breaking. I started screaming, mom and dad came running into my room.

“How is she turning into a werewolf? She’s not a male and it’s her eighteenth birthday not her twenty-first.” Were the last words I heard from my parents before it all went blank.

The next thing I know I’m on the ground on all fours staring at my parents.

“Mom, dad what’s going on? What happened?” I ask them frantically.

“Sweetheart, I’m sorry we should have told you, you’re a werewolf and we can’t here you. You shouldn’t have changed, you’re supposed to become a vampire. Females aren’t supposed to change until they meet their mate or they turn twenty-one. I’m so sorry.” My mom tells me.

I’m in shock. A werewolf? A mate? I already met my mate? You’ve got to be kidding me. My life has changed.

“Sweetheart we need you to change back. We really need to talk to you about all of this.” My dad said.

I don’t even know how to do that.

‘Millicent’ a voice echoed in my head.

‘It’s me your wolf, calm down we can get through this together.’ She said

“What? I am so confused. I am not a wolf, I am supposed to be a vampire today.” I said.

‘Please don’t do that I’ll be lost forever and we’ll never find out who our mate is.’ My wolf told me.

“Wait so I can’t be a vampire now? But my family. My siblings…” at this point I was very sad.

“How do I change back?” I asked my wolf.

‘Simple just imagine your human form and you’ll switch back. Same with turning into a wolf imagine me and you’ll be a wolf again. I will also be in your mind at all times when you need me.’ My wolf informed me.

I thought about myself and turned back into a human. I cried out for joy.

“Mom, dad. What happened to me? Why am I a wolf?” I asked them.

“Your birth family were wolves. We were hoping to switch you to our blood today. That way your wolf would never surface. It looks like you found your mate though.” My dad informed me.

“I’m a wolf? I found my mate? But I don’t know who my mate is…” I told my parents.

“Is there anyone who you have come into contact with that you’ve had a strong connection with?” My mom asked.

“Yes, Kane, I felt the connection since we were five.” I told them.

“Good, we will find him and bring him to you.” My dad said.

‘We need to kill him and she will never be able to transform again. Her wolf will be lost forever. Especially since she is a lycan. We can never have her become who she is meant to be.’ I heard my dad say.

“What? What did you just say?” I ask him.

“Sweetheart I didn’t say anything. You should get some rest. We have a long day tomorrow.” My dad told me.

‘Millie, oh Millie. We need to find Kane before your parents kill him. You appear to have one of your powers already. We can read minds. Millie we need to get out of here and find him.’ My wolf said in a worried voice.

My parents left my room locking the door behind me. I was stuck inside my room with no way down beside the window which was a 12 foot drop.

'Millie...If you shift into your wolf we can make that drop.' my wolf said.

"But it is really high. Won't I break something?" I asked my wolf.

'I can heal you. We really need to get out of here and find our mate. We cannot lose the chance of love.' my wolf informed me.

"Okay, as long as you can heal me. We must wait until everyone in the castle have gone to bed. We can get past the guards easily." I informed my wolf.

I waited until it was two in the morning before making my way outside the castle. I needed to do what my wolf said. Find Kane and save him. I got to the edge of the forest and put my clothes in the backpack I brought with me. I turned into my wolf and headed for Kanes house. I didn’t know what I was going to do but I knew I needed to save him from my parents.

Kane's POV

I looked at my phone and an alarm going off at midnight saying "Millie's 18th Birthday" lit up my screen. I turned the alarm off and I could feel my wolf howling, yearning for our mate.

~~~Flashback~~~

(17 years ago)

My mother and I were on a mission for our Pack Sapphire Moon. We needed to infiltrate the Queen and King's castle to see what they were really up to. We became their servants. We were allowed to live outside of the castle eventually. When we returned to our village to give the information we had discovered already, when we returned to find the village completely burned down. My father the beta dead along with our Alpha and Luna. We could only assume that Mitch, Maggie, and Millicent died too.

When we returned to the castle we learned that they were alive and well but had completely forgotten who they were. Our mission now was to befriend them and inform them of the horrible things their adopted parents had done to our village.

When Millicent was eleven I could not be around her anymore. She was my mate and anymore time I spent with her they would have figured it out. I had to break things off. I always asked about her and would see her wondering the garden everyday. It pained me to do that to her.

~~~Today~~~

I was awoken from my memories with a loud knock on the door. My mom was not home but at the castle preparing for Millie's birthday celebration. I looked at my phone and saw that it was two in the morning. I decided to not open the door. They must now know Millie and I are mates.

I grab a suitcase and mind link my mom that there are guards outside our house. She informed me that the King and Queen know that Millie and I are mates and they are coming to find me so they can kill me. Everything was at stake now. I needed to get to Millie so I can mark her and be fully bonded.

‘Kane, this is Millie. Please if you can hear me my parents sent guards to kill you. Please I hope you can hear me.’ I heard Millie say.

‘Millie? Did you finally change into your wolf?’ I asked with excitement.

‘Kane thank god. I’m in the forest right outside your house. My parents sent people to kill you because I guess we’re mates. You need to get out of there and go into hiding. Meet me out here. I’ll be waiting.’ She told me.

‘Millie, I’ll meet you as soon as I can. I think I have a way out. I can’t wait to kiss you.’ I told her.

Luckily there were no guards outside the door in the back so I sneak out to run to find my mate who I have longed for. I finally was going to be able to hold her and be in her presence again. I could not wait. I changed into my wolf so I could see better.

‘Millie? I’m right behind you.’ I see her sitting by the tree. She smelled of lilacs and vanilla. I could not wait to be by her side for the rest of our lives.

‘Kane, you made it out. We need to find a hiding place for you so my parents don’t kill you.’ Milllie told me.

‘I informed my mom of what is going on. She is at the castle setting up for your party Millie.

I informed her not to come home for the foreseeable future.’ I told her.

‘Look, I’m not sure what’s next but we really need to get out of here before the guards see us.’ She told me.

We started running in the complete opposite direction of the castle. I have a place that nobody knows where it is. It’s underground and I can hide out there until we know what to do next. We finally got to my hiding spot. It was under ground and hidden quite well. I turned back into my human self and went into the hiding place. I did not want Millie changing because we would have been caught. So I just had her ride on my back.

“Millie, I love you, I always have, it broke me to leave you the way I did. Trust me it broke me.”

I said with sorrow in my voice.

“Kane, I love you too. I always knew you were the one for me. I need you.” Millie said with love in her eyes.

I had to do what I did to save her. I could have not stayed around her without her parents finding out. I had to let Millie go no matter how much it hurt me. I loved her with every fiber of my being which I knew once we bond and mark each other that bond would be even stronger. I needed to mark her before she returned to the castle. I needed her to save our pack and we can rebuild. Our entire future depended on her.
