Elle Ava wraps her arms around me in one final embrace once we reach the door. "Don't forget what we talked about," she whispers, then lets me go. I give her a tight smile and turn to face the man I'm not sure I want to see right now. He's only a few inches away from me, close enough that I can feel the warmth radiating off his body yet far enough that I'm able to pretend that it doesn't matter. He smiles when I look at him.
