Chapter 2: The Offer

The address on the receipt led Ivy Dawson to the tallest building in the city.
She stood outside the glass entrance, clutching the folded paper in her trembling hand. Every instinct told her to turn around. Yet the hospital's deadline echoed in her mind. Her mother's surgery couldn't wait.
A receptionist dressed in black welcomed her as though she had been expected.
"Mr. Adrian Blackwood is waiting."
The ride to the top floor felt endless.
When the elevator doors opened, Ivy stepped into a silent office with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
A man stood with his back to her.
Tall.
Powerful.
Unshaken.
Without turning around, he spoke.
"You came."
His deep voice sent a chill through the room.
"You offered to buy my yesterday," Ivy whispered. "Why?"
Adrian finally faced her. His cold gray eyes studied her as if he already knew every secret she had buried.
"Because," he replied calmly, "yesterday is worth far more than you realize."
He slid a thick black contract across the table.
"If you sign this, your family's debts disappear today."
Ivy stared at the document.
"There must be a catch."
"There is."
His lips curved into the faintest smile.
"But once you hear the truth..."
"...walking away will no longer be possible."
