Chapter 1: The Receipt
The receipt felt heavier than paper.
Ivy Dawson stared at the figures printed across the hospital bill, hoping they would somehow change if she blinked long enough.
₦5,480,000.
The price of another chance for her father to live.
"Forty-eight hours," the doctor said quietly. "After that, we can no longer continue his treatment."
Forty-eight hours to find a fortune.
Forty-eight hours before hope expired.
Outside, rain drenched the city, but Ivy barely noticed. Her phone buzzed with another reminder—Rent Overdue. Final Notice.
A broken laugh escaped her lips.
Life wasn't closing one door.
It was locking every exit.
As she stepped toward the road, a glossy black Rolls-Royce stopped beside her.
A driver in white gloves opened the door and handed her a black envelope.
Inside was a single sentence.
"Sell us one day from your past, and we'll pay ₦500,000,000."
Her pulse stumbled.
No company.
No signature.
Just an address.
It had to be a cruel joke.
Yet the receipt in her trembling hand reminded her that desperation could make even impossible offers look like miracles.
For the first time in her life...
Ivy considered selling yesterday to survive tomorrow.
