# Chapter 10: The Alpha's Daughter - Part 1
## "Born in Blood, Raised in Love"
She was born on a rainy Tuesday.
At 3:17 AM.
7 pounds. 3 ounces.
Screaming like she already owned the world.
And she did.
Because she was the daughter of the Devil and his Luna.
"Her name is Lilith," I whispered, holding her to my chest.
Damian sat beside us on the hospital bed, afraid to touch her.
Like she would break.
"Lilith Black," he tested the name. "The Alpha's Daughter."
He finally reached out. One big finger.
She grabbed it with her tiny hand.
And just like that, the most feared Mafia King in New York... melted.
"She has your eyes," he said. "Black. Dangerous."
"And your temper," I laughed. "She's been kicking me for 9 months."
The nurse came in. "You have visitors, Mr. Black. The whole pack."
Damian looked at me. "Do you want them?"
I looked down at Lilith. At her perfect face.
"No," I said. "Today she's just ours."
He nodded and sent them all away.
That night, in the quiet, he told her a story.
Not a fairytale.
Our story.
About how her daddy bought her mommy.
About the war. About the blood.
About how love won anyway.
"So you better be good," he finished, kissing her forehead.
"Or mommy and I will have to teach you how to fight."
She burped.
We both laughed and cried at the same time.
---
5 Years Later.
"LILITH BLACK! PUT THAT DOWN!"
The vase crashed to the floor.
Again.
My 5 year old daughter stood in the middle of the living room.
Holding a knife.
Staring at the broken pieces like it was her fault the vase attacked her.
"Luna, I'm sorry," she said, bottom lip trembling. "It moved."
Damian came in from his office. Tie loose. Sleeves rolled up.
"What happened?"
"She happened," I pointed.
He looked at the mess. At her. At me.
Then he sighed and picked her up.
"Lilith," he said seriously. "You cannot use daddy's knife to fight furniture."
"It was being mean, Daddy."
"I know, baby. But we use words first. Then fists. Okay?"
"Okay," she nodded. Then whispered to me: "Mommy, can I have ice cream?"
I couldn't stay mad.
No one could stay mad at Lilith Black.
She had his black hair. My gray eyes.
And the attitude of both of us combined.
---
The first day of school.
Blackthorn Academy. Private. For supernaturals only.
Damian insisted.
I was nervous.
"What if they bully her?" I asked in the car.
Damian didn't look up from driving. "Then they will learn what happens
when you bully an Alpha's daughter."
"Dami—"
"Aria," he cut me off. "She is not you. She is not weak.
She was born in war. She will be fine."
He was right.
At pickup, the teacher came to us. Looking pale.
"Mr. and Mrs. Black... Lilith had a little... incident."
"What kind of incident?" I asked.
"She told a 6th grader that if he touched her friend again,
she would 'make him sleep with the fishes.'
And then she drew him a diagram of how."
Damian coughed to hide a laugh.
I pinched his arm.
"We're sorry," I said. "We'll talk to her."
In the car, Lilith was swinging her legs.
"Did I get in trouble?"
"Yes," I said. "But also... no."
Damian met my eyes in the rearview mirror and smiled.
"That's my girl."
---
Her 6th birthday party.
No theme. No princesses.
She wanted "Mafia Training Camp."
So we gave it to her.
Obstacle courses. Nerf guns. Cake shaped like a gun.
All the kids from the pack came.
At the end of the day, she made a speech.
Standing on a chair.
"Thank you for coming to my party," she said.
"Remember: Be kind. But if someone is mean,
tell mommy. Or daddy. Or me.
And we will handle it."
The parents clapped.
Damian pulled me to him. "We created a monster."
"The best monster," I said.
That night, after everyone left, she crawled into our bed.
"Daddy, tell me the story again."
"Which one?"
"The one about how you met mommy."
"Again?"
"Please."
So he told her.
About the 2 million debt. About the "You belong to me."
About the war. About the ring with blood.
When he finished, she was quiet.
Then she said: "So you saved each other."
"Yes," Damian said.
"Good," she nodded. "That's what family does."
And fell asleep between us.
---
The letter came on her 7th birthday.
No return address.
Black paper.
One line:
`"The Devil's debt is never paid. The daughter pays it. - S"`
Damian burned it.
But I saw his face.
The war was over.
But the name Silverfang... had one left.
"S"
Silas Silverfang.
Elena's youngest. We thought he died in the fire.
We were wrong.
For the next week, security was tripled.
Guards at school. Guards at home. Guards in the bathroom.
Lilith hated it.
"Mommy, why can't I go to the park?"
"Because Daddy said so, baby."
"That's not a reason."
"I know," I knelt down. "But sometimes grown-ups get scared.
And when Daddy gets scared, the whole world listens."
She thought about it. "Is someone going to hurt me?"
I hesitated. "We won't let them."
That night, Damian and I fought.
First time in years.
"You're smothering her!" I yelled.
"I'm protecting her!" he yelled back.
"She's not a prisoner!"
"She's my DAUGHTER!"
We stopped. Both breathing hard.
Then he pulled me to him. "I'm sorry. I'm terrified, Aria."
"I know," I cried. "Me too."
---
The attack happened on a Saturday.
At the park.
During her ballet class.
3 men. Masks. Guns.
They grabbed her.
And they made one mistake.
They didn't know who her mother was.
I was there. In the crowd.
I didn't think. I moved.
Gun from my bag. 3 shots. 3 bodies.
The whole park screamed.
Lilith stood there, frozen, looking at me.
I dropped the gun and ran to her.
"Baby! Baby are you okay?"
She looked at the bodies. Then at me.
Then she hugged me. Tight.
"You were so cool, Mommy."
Police came. Ambulances. News.
Damian arrived in 5 minutes.
He looked at the scene. At me. At her.
And he didn't say a word.
Just picked both of us up and took us home.
That night, no one slept.
Lilith was in our bed. In the middle.
"Are they going to come back?" she asked.
"No," Damian said. "Because tomorrow, Daddy is going to find Silas.
And this ends."
"Can I come?" she asked.
"No," we both said at the same time.
She pouted. "Fine. But I want to learn to shoot better."
Damian and I looked at each other.
And laughed.
Because what else could we do?
---
The next day, Damian left before dawn.
"Stay here," he told me. "With her."
12 hours later, he came back.
Blood on his shirt. Not his.
"Silas is dead," he said simply. "The debt is paid."
I exhaled. A breath I didn't know I was holding.
Lilith ran to him. "Did you win, Daddy?"
He picked her up. "We won, princess."
That night, for the first time in weeks, we slept with the windows open.
No guards. No fear.
Just the three of us.
---
Now Lilith is 8.
She goes to school. She has friends.
She still has the knife. I let her keep it.
Damian teaches her self-defense every Sunday.
And me?
I run the charity.
And I watch them.
My Devil. My Daughter.
My whole world.
People ask me: "Aren't you scared? Raising a child in your world?"
And I tell them:
"I was born in fear. She was born in love.
There's a difference."
Last night, she asked me: "Mommy, am I a monster?"
I knelt down. "No, baby. You are the daughter of a monster
who learned how to love.
That makes you something better.
That makes you hope."
She hugged me. "I love you, Mommy."
"I love you more, Lilith Black."
Outside, Damian was grilling.
Music playing.
And for the first time since the day I was sold...
I was truly home.
Born in blood.
Raised in love.
That is the story of the Alpha's Daughter.

# Chapter 10: The Alpha's Daughter - Part 2
## "First Love, First War"
Lilith Black was 16.
And trouble had a name.
His name was Aiden Cross.
"NO."
Damian didn't even look up from his laptop.
"Dad—"
"No."
"You haven't even heard me out!"
"I don't need to," he finally looked at her. "He's a Cross.
Their family has been rivals with Blackthorns for 50 years.
No."
Lilith threw her hands up. "This is so unfair!
It's 2026! People don't do blood feuds anymore!"
"Tell that to the 3 Cross men in prison for trying to burn our warehouse last year," Damian said.
"That wasn't Aiden!"
"I don't care."
I walked in with coffee. "What's going on?"
"Your husband is being unreasonable," Lilith said, glaring at him.
"And your daughter is being dramatic," Damian shot back.
I kissed both of them. "I love you. Now someone explain."
"Aiden asked me to prom," Lilith said. "And Dad said no because 50 years ago
his great-grandfather stole our cattle or something."
"It was 200 acres of land," Damian corrected.
"SEE!" Lilith pointed. "He remembers! It's ancient history!"
I looked at Damian. "She's 16. She should go to prom."
"With a Cross?"
"With a boy," I said. "Who she likes."
Damian stared at me. Then at Lilith.
"Fine," he growled. "But I am driving her. And picking her up.
And his parents are meeting us first. And there are 4 guards.
And—"
"DAD!"
"And that's final."
Lilith squealed and hugged me. "Thank you, Mom!"
Then she ran upstairs.
Damian looked at me. "You are going to get her killed."
"Or let her live," I said. "Your choice."
---
Prom night.
Blackthorn Mansion looked like the FBI was here.
4 SUVs. 8 guards. Damian in a suit that cost more than a car.
Aiden arrived in a rented tux. Nervous. 17.
"Mr. Black," he held out his hand. "Sir."
Damian looked at the hand. Then at him.
"Boy, if you hurt her, I own the cemetery you will be buried in."
"Dad!" Lilith hissed.
Aiden swallowed. "Yes sir. Understood sir."
They left.
I watched them go. "She's going to be okay."
"She better be," Damian said. "Or I'm starting a war."
---
12:30 AM. My phone rang.
Unknown number.
"Aria Black?"
"Yes?"
"We have your daughter.
If you want her back, come alone to the old docks.
Warehouse 9.
And bring 10 million.
You have 1 hour.
- A Cross"
The line went dead.
I dropped the phone.
Damian was already moving. Gun. Keys.
"Who was it?"
"A Cross," I said. "They have Lilith."
His face went blank. The Devil face.
"Call Marco. Call everyone. We're going to war."
"No," I said. "They said alone. With money."
"I'm not letting you—"
"Damian," I grabbed his face. "This is how we get her back.
You trust me?"
He looked at me for 3 seconds.
Then nodded. "Together. Always."
---
Warehouse 9.
Rain. Again.
Figures in the dark.
And in the middle, tied to a chair.
Lilith.
And standing next to her.
Aiden.
My heart broke.
"Let her go," I said, stepping out with a briefcase.
"10 million. Like you asked."
A man laughed. Older. Cross family crest on his ring.
"Mr. Victor Cross," he said. "Aiden's uncle."
"Where is Aiden?"
"Right here," Victor pushed Aiden forward. "My nephew.
Who fell in love with the enemy. Pathetic."
Aiden looked at me. Eyes full of tears. "Mrs. Black, I'm sorry.
They made me. They said they would kill my mom—"
"Shut up," Victor hit him.
Lilith screamed. "DON'T TOUCH HIM!"
Victor smiled. "The little Alpha. So much fire.
Shame we have to put it out."
He raised a gun to her head.
"Money. Now."
I threw the briefcase. "Here. Take it. Let them go."
He opened it. Fake money.
His face turned red. "YOU b***h—"
The lights went out.
Gunfire.
Damian.
And 20 of our men.
From the roof. From the shadows. From everywhere.
Chaos.
I ran to Lilith. Cut her ropes.
"Mommy!"
"I'm here, baby. I'm here."
Aiden was fighting too. Against his own family.
For her.
Damian shot Victor in the leg.
"Finish it," I said.
"No," Damian said. "He goes to prison.
Where he can think about what he did to my daughter."
Police sirens.
It was over in 5 minutes.
---
Hospital.
Lilith had a bruise on her wrist. That was it.
Aiden had a broken rib.
He was sitting in the waiting room when we came out.
He stood up when he saw Damian.
"Sir, I—"
Damian walked to him.
Punched him.
Aiden fell to the floor.
"DAD!" Lilith yelled.
Damian stood over Aiden. "You lied to us.
You put her in danger.
You are a Cross."
Aiden, bleeding, looked up. "Yes sir. I am.
And I love her.
And I would die before I let anyone hurt her again.
Even my own family."
Silence.
Damian looked at him. At his bruised face. At his honesty.
Then he held out his hand.
Pulled Aiden up.
"If you ever make her cry," Damian said quietly.
"I will finish what I started. Understand?"
"Yes sir," Aiden nodded.
Damian looked at me. I nodded.
"Fine," he sighed. "You can take her to prom.
Next year."
Lilith ran and hugged Aiden.
Then hugged her dad.
"We're a mess," she whispered to me.
"The best kind of mess," I said.
---
6 months later.
Graduation.
Lilith walked across the stage.
Valedictorian.
"To my parents," she said into the mic.
"Who taught me that love is stronger than blood.
And that family is who you choose to fight for."
Standing ovation.
Damian cried.
I cried.
Aiden in the front row, cried too.
After, at the party, Damian pulled Aiden aside.
"Son," he said.
Aiden froze. "Sir?"
"If you break her heart, I will kill you.
If you don't, you are part of this family.
Cross or not."
Aiden nodded. "I won't break it, sir. I promise."
Damian clapped his shoulder. "Good. Now go dance with my daughter
before I change my mind."
---
One year later.
Lilith turned 17.
She and Aiden were still together.
Against all odds.
Blackthorn and Cross. Together.
She came to me one night. "Mom, can I ask you something?"
"Anything."
"How did you know Dad was the one?"
I smiled. "Because he was terrifying.
And I wasn't scared.
Because he was broken.
And I wanted to fix him.
Because he was mine.
Even before I said yes."
She nodded. "That's how I feel about Aiden."
"Then fight for him," I said. "Like we fought for us."
---
The last scene.
Our house.
Damian, me, Lilith, Aiden.
Dinner. Laughing.
No guards. No guns.
Just family.
Lilith looked around the table.
"Mom, Dad... thank you.
For the blood. For the war. For the love.
For making me who I am."
Damian raised his glass. "To the Alpha's Daughter.
Who ended a 50 year war with one dance."
We all clinked glasses.
Outside, the sun was setting.
No threats. No letters. No blood.
Just a girl.
A boy.
And two parents who would burn the world for them.
Born in blood.
Raised in love.
And now... free.

# Chapter 10: The Alpha's Daughter - Part 3
## "The Crown of Thorns"
Lilith Black was 16.
And she hated everything about it.
"Absolutely not," Damian said, arms crossed.
"Dad, please," Lilith whined. "It's just prom!"
"Prom is where people get killed," he said flatly. "No."
I was in the kitchen, pretending I wasn't listening.
"Mom!" Lilith yelled. "Help me!"
I sighed. "Damian, let her go. Marco and 4 guards will be there."
Damian looked at me like I betrayed him. "You too?"
"She's 16," I said. "Let her be normal for one night."
He groaned and ran a hand through his hair.
"Fine. But the dress is floor length. No slits. No guns.
And you text me every 30 minutes."
Lilith squealed and hugged him. "Love you, Daddy Devil!"
"Don't call me that in public," he muttered. But he was smiling.
---
The prom was at Blackthorn Hotel.
Our hotel.
So technically, it was safe.
Technically.
Lilith looked beautiful.
Black dress. Silver heels. Hair up.
She had my eyes and his attitude.
Deadly combination.
"Mom, you look worried," she said in the car.
"I am," I admitted. "The last time we went to a party..."
"Mom, that was 8 years ago," she took my hand. "I'm not a kid anymore.
I can take care of myself."
I believed her.
And that scared me more.
---
The first hour was perfect.
Music. Dancing. Pictures.
Lilith with her best friend, Maya.
Both of them laughing like they didn't have a drop of Blackthorn blood in them.
Then Maya pulled her aside. "Lil, there's someone here to see you."
"Who?"
"A guy. He said his name is Silas."
My blood turned to ice.
Silas was dead. We killed him 8 years ago.
Lilith frowned. "Probably a prank."
But she went to the balcony anyway.
He was standing there.
20s. Dark hair. Silver eyes.
And a smile that was not a smile.
"Hello, cousin," he said.
Lilith didn't move. "My dad killed your dad."
"I know," Silas said. "And my mom killed your grandparents.
Family is messy, right?"
"What do you want?"
"To talk," he said. "Just talk. About peace. About the future.
About you."
Lilith's phone buzzed.
Text from Dad: `You okay? 30 min.`
She typed back: `Fine.`
"Talk fast," she said. "I have a curfew."
Silas laughed. "You really are his daughter.
Okay. Here's the deal. The Silverfang name is gone.
But the money isn't. The power isn't.
And I don't want war. I want an alliance."
"With me?" Lilith raised an eyebrow.
"With the Blackthorns," he said. "Starting with you.
Marry me. Unite the families. End the bloodline feud forever."
Lilith stared at him.
Then she started laughing.
"Are you serious? You want me to marry you?
The guy whose family tried to kill mine 3 times?"
"It's politics, Lilith," he said. "It's how our world works."
"My world doesn't work like that," she said. "My world works like this:
If you touch my family, I end you."
She turned to leave.
"Wait," Silas grabbed her arm.
Big mistake.
In 2 seconds, Lilith had his wrist twisted behind his back.
Knife to his throat.
"Don't. Touch. Me." she whispered.
Guards ran in. Marco in front.
"Miss Black!"
"I'm fine," she let Silas go. "He was just leaving."
Silas rubbed his wrist, smiling. "Feisty. I like it.
This isn't over, cousin."
He walked away.
And Lilith's hands started shaking.
---
She didn't tell us until we got home.
At 1 AM.
In the living room.
With me crying and Damian breaking a table.
"He touched you?" Damian's voice was quiet. Too quiet.
"He grabbed me," Lilith said. "I handled it."
"You should have called me," he said.
"I did handle it, Dad," she yelled. "I'm not 5 anymore!"
"To me you will always be 5!" he yelled back.
"Stop!" I shouted. Both of them looked at me.
"Lilith, are you okay?"
She nodded, tears in her eyes. "Yes. But I'm tired.
Tired of being the Alpha's Daughter.
Tired of every guy thinking they can own me because of my last name."
Damian went to her. Knelt down.
"Hey," he said softly. "You are not your last name.
You are Lilith. My daughter.
And no one owns you. Ever. Do you understand?"
She hugged him. "I understand."
---
The next day, the offer came.
Officially.
Written letter.
"Marriage proposal. Lilith Black to Silas Silverfang.
To unite our families and ensure peace."
Damian burned it in the fireplace.
"Over my dead body."
"Mine too," I said.
But the problem was, other families liked the idea.
"Peace is good for business," the Elders said at the meeting.
"Think about it, Alpha King."
Damian stood up. "I have thought about it.
My answer is no. My daughter is not a bargaining chip."
The room went silent.
"Then we may have to vote you out," one Elder said.
Lilith, who was sitting in the corner, stood up.
"Excuse me," she said. Everyone turned.
"You want to vote my dad out? For protecting me?
Fine. Vote. But know this:
If you force this marriage,
I will burn this whole city down before I say I do."
She walked out.
And the room stayed silent.
---
That night, Lilith came to our room.
"Can I sleep with you guys?"
She was 16. But in that moment, she was 5 again.
"Of course," I said and moved over.
In the dark, she whispered: "Mom, do you regret it?
Choosing Dad? This life?"
I thought about it. "No. Not for one second."
"Even with all the blood?"
"Especially with all the blood," I said. "Because it led me to you."
She was quiet. Then: "I don't want to marry Silas."
"I know," Damian said from the other side.
"I don't want to be queen," she said.
"You don't have to be," I said. "You can be anything."
"Can I be normal?"
Damian and I both laughed.
"Baby," he said, "you were born a Blackthorn.
Normal left the building a long time ago."
She giggled. "Fair."
---
A week later, Silas made his move.
He kidnapped Maya.
Left a note on our door:
`"One week. Say yes. Or she dies.
- S"`
Lilith didn't cry.
She went to the armory.
Picked two guns. A knife.
And looked at us.
"We're going to get her back."
Damian nodded. "We."
The location: Old Silverfang estate.
Abandoned. Booby trapped.
We went in at midnight.
Me. Damian. Lilith. Marco and 10 men.
It was a trap.
Of course it was.
Gunfire.
Screams.
Silas standing on the balcony with Maya, knife to her throat.
"Last chance, Lilith," he called down. "Say yes."
Lilith stepped forward. Gun raised.
"No," she said clearly. "I choose me."
She fired.
The bullet hit the rope above Silas.
The chandelier fell.
Chaos.
Damian took out 3 men.
I took out 2.
Lilith ran up the stairs.
She and Silas fought.
Knife to knife.
Daughter of the Devil vs Son of the Devil.
"You can't win," Silas spat.
"Watch me," Lilith said and disarmed him.
Punched him. Kicked him.
And held the knife to his throat.
Just like she did at prom.
"Yield," she said.
He laughed. "Never."
She looked at me. At Dad.
Then she dropped the knife.
"I'm not you," she said. "I'm better."
Police sirens.
We left Silas for them.
Maya was safe. Crying but safe.
# Chapter 10: The Alpha's Daughter - Part 4
## "College, Killers, and Coffee"
Lilith Black was 18.
And she was done with bodyguards following her to the bathroom.
"Marco," she said, dropping her bag. "You cannot come to my dorm."
"Lilith," Marco said, looking miserable. "Your dad's orders."
"My dad is not the Dean of NYU," she said. "I am."
She was starting NYU.
Business + Criminal Psychology.
"So I can understand the monsters," she told me. "And stop them."
Damian hated it.
"Too many people. Too public. Too dangerous."
"And too late," I said, kissing his cheek. "She's an adult.
Let her fly, Devil."
He growled but signed the papers.
"4 guards. In plain clothes. Campus only.
And a panic button. And GPS. And—"
"DAD!" Lilith hugged him. "I love you. Stop worrying."
The first week was hell.
For us.
Not for her.
She loved it.
Classes. Coffee. Late night study groups.
No one knew she was a Blackthorn.
To them she was just "Lil. The girl who drinks 4 espressos and aces every test."
---
Month 2.
She met him in Psych 101.
Ethan Cole.
21. Grad student. TA.
Brown hair. Glasses. And a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"Miss Black," he said after class. "Your paper on 'Trauma in Organized Crime Families' was... intense."
"Thanks," Lilith said, packing her bag. "I had good sources."
"I bet," he laughed. "Coffee? I want to ask you about your thesis idea."
She should have said no.
Dad's rules: No men. No dating. No coffee alone.
She said yes.
They talked for 3 hours.
About books. About psychology. About why people hurt people.
He didn't ask about her last name.
He didn't Google her.
For the first time in her life, someone saw Lilith. Not the Alpha's Daughter.
She came home that night glowing.
"Who is he?" I asked.
"A TA," she said. "His name is Ethan. He's... nice. Normal."
Damian looked up from his laptop. "Normal is boring."
"Exactly," Lilith smiled. "Boring sounds nice."
---
Month 3.
The first threat.
A note in her locker.
`"We know who you are, Blackthorn.
- A Friend"`
She didn't tell us.
She handled it.
Told campus security. Changed her route.
But she didn't tell us.
Until Month 4.
Ethan was walking her to her car after a late study session.
2 men came out of the shadows.
Masks. Guns.
"Miss Blackthorn," one said. "Your father wants to talk."
Ethan stepped in front of her. "Back off."
The man laughed and raised his gun.
Lilith didn't think.
She moved.
Disarmed him. Broke his wrist. Kicked the other one in the knee.
In 10 seconds both were on the ground.
Ethan stared at her. "What... what are you?"
"I'm leaving," she said, breathing hard. "You should too."
She called us.
We were there in 8 minutes.
Police were already there.
And Ethan was still standing there, pale.
In the car, no one spoke.
Until Damian said: "You lied to us."
"I didn't want you to worry," Lilith whispered.
"We are your parents," I said. "Worrying is our job."
Ethan called her the next day.
"Lilith, are you okay?"
"I'm fine," she said.
"Are you... are you in the mafia?"
She paused. "Yes."
Click.
He hung up.
She didn't cry.
But I saw her that night. Staring at her phone.
"Some people can't handle the blood," I said, sitting beside her.
"I know," she said. "I just thought... maybe this time would be different."
Damian came in. Sat on the other side.
"Baby," he said. "You are not too much.
The right person won't run. They will stand in front of the gun with you.
Like your mom did for me."
She leaned on both of us. "I hate this."
"I know," I said. "But you are stronger than this."
---
Month 5.
She threw herself into work.
The Foundation. Classes. Internship at FBI.
She was everywhere.
So she wouldn't have to think about him.
Then the letter came.
To the house.
Not to her. To us.
`"Your daughter is playing with fire.
NYU is not safe for a Blackthorn.
Pull her out. Or we will.
- The Council"`
The Council.
12 families. Including us.
Who decided the rules of our world.
Damian crumpled it. "Over my dead body."
"Mine too," I said.
Lilith read it and went quiet.
"They're right," she said finally. "I'm putting everyone at risk.
My friends. Ethan. You guys."
"No," Damian said. "You are not leaving."
"Dad—"
"I said NO," he slammed his hand on the table. "You are not hiding.
Not again. Not ever."
That night, Lilith snuck out.
Took her bag. Her laptop.
Left a note:
`"I love you. I have to do this alone.
- L"`
---
She didn't go far.
A cheap motel. 20 minutes away.
We found her in 2 hours.
She was sitting on the bed, gun on the table.
When we walked in she didn't look up.
"I'm sorry," she whispered.
"For what?" I asked, sitting next to her.
"For being me," she said. "For being dangerous.
For making you choose between me and peace."
Damian knelt in front of her.
"Hey. Look at me."
She did. Eyes red.
"You are not a problem to be solved, Lilith," he said.
"You are my daughter.
And I would burn the Council, NYU, and this whole city
before I let you think you have to hide who you are."
I took her hand. "We don't want peace if it means losing you."
She cried then. Hard.
"We're coming home," I said. "Together."
---
The Council called a meeting.
All 12 families.
Blackthorn Mansion.
Lilith insisted on coming.
She walked in. 18. In jeans and a hoodie.
No makeup. No guards.
Just her.
"So," she said. "You want me gone."
One Elder stood. "Miss Black, it's for your safety."
"No," she said. "It's for your comfort.
Because if I'm here, you have to remember what we did.
The blood. The war. The things we did to stay on top."
She walked to the head of the table. Where Damian sat.
"I'm not leaving," she said. "I'm not hiding.
But I am changing things.
Starting today, the Foundation gets Council funding.
For kids from ALL families.
So no one else has to grow up like this."
Silence.
Then one by one, they nodded.
Because no one wanted to be the one to tell the Devil's daughter no.
After, outside, Ethan was waiting.
He looked at her. At us.
"I'm sorry I ran," he said. "I was scared."
"I know," Lilith said.
"I don't want to be scared anymore," he said. "If you'll let me try again.
Slowly. As friends."
Lilith looked at us. We nodded.
"Okay," she said. "Friends. Coffee. No guns."
He smiled. Real this time.
---
6 months later.
Lilith's 19th birthday.
No party.
Just dinner.
Us. Ethan. Maya.
At home.
