Myra hugged her backpack tightly, barely daring to breathe as she worried about alerting the Sirens outside. The noise had woken Isabella, who sat up with a start, momentarily bewildered in the dim light. As she crawled toward the cave entrance to figure out what was happening, she accidentally touched Joe's leg. "Ah—" Isabella yelped, realizing too late that she might have given away their position. Suddenly, there was a loud clattering outside, like something rushing toward them. Thankfully, the wire mesh at the cave's entrance held strong.
