Shannara woke up really late, to find herself naked and lying on Rivers' chest. The man was even sexy. When he slept she tried easing off him but he had an arm around her that held her tighter. 'Mine,' her wolf simply replied. Shannara slid off River and quickly dressed. The man was going to be mad. She had just stolen his choice away and marked him. "I have no idea what your talking about." Shannara lied.

"You are kind of intense. Does anyone ever tell you that? I mean when it comes to River," Shannara asked,

Zara laughed, "Oh honey wait until you mean Tabatha and Chastity and if the Chosen ever gets over her beef with the world now they are intense I am new to the crew. You ain't seen anything yet."

Shannara bit her lip, she thought about the hunk of a man the goddess had given her. Thinking they hadn't seen anything yet, she would not allow anyone to come between her and her mate, period!

Janora was nearly in a panic by the time Shannara came waltzing into the room. "Shannara Snider, where the hell have you been?" Janora asked her hands on hips, "I have been worried sick."

"Sorry I was hanging out with Zara and I lost track of time." Shannara lied. Janora looked at her suspiciously.

"Is there something going on I should know? I heard you got into a fight with that girl, Janine. What happened?" Janora asked.

"She was just being hateful towards me."

"It's that boy, isn't it?" Janora demanded to know.

"Who River?" Shannara asked innocently, "I'd hardly call him a boy."

Janora's eyes narrowed, "that boy is trouble. I knew he would be the moment I heard you were mated. You stay away from him Shannara, he is no good for you."

"Janora, he isn't that bad." Shannara said

"Oh yeah, then why does the Chosen not deal with him anymore? And I heard that in the graveyard there is a dead baby that he had by a freaking witch!" She huffed "that boy is bad news and you stay away from him. I mean it!"

"The Alpha has ordered us to spend time together Janora, you know that!"

"Fine, but make sure it's in a public place." She said, "I'm going to bed me and the boys had a long day and tomorrow I promised I would take the boys to the park. Also, your brother has been asking why you have not come to see him. Shannara stiffened. Her twin had been injured in the fall so badly his wolf had died. He was now unable to heal and paralyzed from the neck down. He was only able to communicate through mindlink. She just couldn't stand seeing him that way, so she had not been to the hospital since she arrived. What was she supposed to say to him? Zara opened the door to her room to find Quamir standing there. "Get in here before someone sees you!" She grabbed his shirt pulling him inside. He turned, locking the door and then tossed her on the bed. "You have been avoiding me."

"Quamir, have you seen your mate? I can't stand Amber and I even feel bad for her. Does it not bother you that she is killing herself?" Zara asked.

"I did not sign up for a mate, she fell into my lap. I don't think I should have to sacrifice my life for her. Besides, she is the one that wanted this. I told her it was not what I wanted. I want you, Zara, I love you." Quamir leaned over her, kissing her neck.

"I think Zion will be pissed if he finds out. I am trying to move up in the ranks. Screwing his cousin's man is not a good look." Zara explained as he pulled his shirt off.

"f**k Zion, you can be my Luna. We can leave and go back to my old territory and rule together." Quamir pointed out. "Everything has been in the air since the fall of Zara. The skies are the limit."

"Yes, but we do not want bad blood with Mystic Moon."

"Why, the way I see it is that the only thing that made Mystic Moon a hot topic was the Chosen. She is not here. In fact at the last Alpha meeting, she said she was looking for a new pack. I say we should try to get her to join ours, then Zion Black can't say or do shit."

"And why on earth would she choose your pack?" Zara asked,

"Why not?" Quamir asked as he pulled Zara closer to him. "Besides, you said you hated this pack, do you want to be here?" What they were doing always felt so wrong to her but what was she supposed to do? She was so into this toxic man and their toxic relationship. She had to stop this because she believed in karma, yet she allowed him to strip her clothes off of her and bend her over. Quamir did things to her that set her on fire. Leilani watched Zion from the window as he took all his anger and anxiety out on his trainees. Losing the Chosen had turned him into an absolute terror. He refused to touch her although they still shared a bed. He was restless all the time and had become a very heavy drinker. He was always drinking. When she mentioned it he nearly bit her head off.

She watched as he yelled, "This is pointless. I will never get anywhere with you p*****s, labs everyone, and don't stop until I say! Or you're out!" He went marching across the yard and she could tell he was fuming. She found him in his office sitting by the window watching them run. "Zion?"

"What! I don't have time for whatever you want. These pathetic excuses for warriors have forced me to have to take on more members; they simply are incapable of protecting the pack." Zion complained.

"Zion, they would probably be more capable if you weren't beating the crap out of them." Leilani said snidely.

"Are you trying to tell me how to run my pack?"

"Of course not, but I am saying you need to find a way to control your anger and express your pain."

Leilani turned and left him there. She had a lot of work on her hands and she was also trying to help her brother manage her former pack as well, because Amber had not adjusted well since the fall. Leilani decided to go pay her a visit. She knocked on the door and it opened. "Amber, she called out, Amber!" Leilani pushed the door open and saw Amber laying on the ground. "Amber! Amber!"

'Zion, come quick, it's Amber!'

Amber woke up to see Zion sitting with his head down in a chair across from her. Her mate was nowhere to be found.

"Zion," Amber whispered,

"Amber, you scared the hell out of me. You're the only family I have left." He sat on the edge of her bed. "If Leilani had not found you."

"I'm sorry Zion, I…the pain." She started crying.

"I don't understand," Zion said,

"I just miss my parents terribly!" Zion could understand he missed his parents as well.

"This will get better, you just have to keep pushing?" Zion sat beside her for some time. He left after he received a mindlink letting him know Kevin had arrived. He went past Leilani like she was invisible,

"Zion! Zion!" Leilani called out. He just kept walking. She hated this space they were in. She had to figure out how to reach him. The man had cried in her lap like a baby after telling her the Chosen had rejected him. Today it was like last night did not happen. Amber could see the tension on Leilani's face, "he told me she rejected him."

"Yes, she did. I don't get it. How can you love someone and hurt them? Why couldn't she just accept us together and we could all be happy?"

Amber thought that over, "Who the f**k wants to share?"

Leilani looked surprised by her words, "I would, I love him," Leilani said,

"You have never felt the love of a true mate, it's different," Amber said,

"But I have, so that's not true," Leilani said,

"Then you should…wait what? I'm so sorry Lei I had no idea you lost your mate." Amber felt horrible,

"No, I didn't lose him, I rejected him."

"You whaaaat!" Amber jumped from the bed, closing the door, "Leilani, you have a mate!"

"Zion is mate!"

"Don't play stupid with me Leilani. The only reason you are here is because Zion thinks if he rejects you you will die. He doesn't know you have a mate to pick up the pieces." Amber snapped.

"I don't, I mean I don't know if he has a second chance mate, or. took a mate. What's the big deal." Leilani asked,

"Wow sis you played the hell out of both of us."

"Don't demonize me, Amber. He never asked, so we never talked about it. I love Zion and we will work through this. He is mine all mine. Now don't start problems where there are none."

Leilani said, annoyed. Amber looked at her, she had wanted them together, so why did she feel like this was wrong?

"Okay, but just so you know, Zion has always been put off by females that reject their mate." Amber pointed out.

"Well, what he doesn't know won't hurt him, tell me why you are here Amber," Leilani asked.

"Your brother is a lying, cheating piece of s**t and he doesn't care that he is killing me. An I guess I have a death wish because I can't let the pig go." Amber and Leilani stared at each other "Quamir did this to you."

Amber shook her head as tears ran from her eyes, "What is wrong with me?"

"Nothing! Did you tell Zion?" Leilani asked.

"No, he will kill him," Amber said. Leilani sighed as she started to formulate a plan,

"We are going to find out who she is and she is about to suffer. Don't you worry, Amber, we are going to run her ass out of Mystic Moon," Leilani said, "promise!"

The Vargis were roaming and the hotter it got the worse they got, "we need to get the borders locked down now before there are too many." Zion said, "I sure wish Chastity still had that book."

"Agreed," River said, yelling out instructions. They were installing electric fences but the Vargis seemed extra antsy today and he was getting nervous.

"How come we can't just ask Cat for help?" River asked.

"She is busy!" Zion snapped.

"Nonsense Cat is never too busy for us," River said,

"River!" Zion snapped, but his eyes had already clouded over.

'Cat, do you think you could spare a moment of your time?' River asked

'depends what's up.'

'We are installing an electric fence around Mystic and I was wondering if-'

Before he could finish, she appeared in front of him, "Why does Mystic need an electric fence?"

River pointed to where Zara and several others stood watching as the others worked. Catori turned and her eyes fell on Zion, that both stared at each other a moment, then Catori followed River to the top of the hill.

"Catori Cool Cat, you wouldn't happen to have spoken to my Alpha, have you?" Kevin asked,

Catori looked from him to Zion in confusion.

"Kevin is Chenoa's Beta now." Zion said to her,

"Oh, that's…weird. Where is Richard?" Catori asked,

"Mystic Moon, he and Tabatha were banished from Mystic." Zion said,

"Banished for what?" Catori said, rubbing her necklace.

"Betrayal, she slept with Blaine after everything." Catori nodded.

"And Kade?" Catori asked,

"He did not survive the fall," Zion said,

"So who do you have?" Catori asked,

"No one rookies mostly," Zion admitted,

"So my sons-" Catori began,

"Don't go there Catori," Zion said,

Catori decided to drop it for now, but she would revisit the conversation later.

"What are those?" Catori asked as they came to the tip of the hilltop looking over. The beast appeared below. Some appeared to be grazing while others bumped into each other clumsy, almost lazily. Kind of moving like zombies, Catori thought to herself.

"Those are Vigas. They appeared after you left. We didn't know if they were from hell or man-made for the longest. They travel in herds and have taken out entire packs. Humans hunt them now because they have invaded their territories too. They can only be killed by beheading."

River explained.

"They smell awful." Catori said, frowning, "You said at first."

"Yes, we later discovered they were man-made with the assistance of Madeline."

"Madeline! Maddy did this!" Catori could not believe her ears,

"Where is she?"

"Dead. We have learned a lot about them thanks to Vanessa." Zion said,

"Nessa," a memory hit her, and she reached out grabbing Rivers arm, "Missing!"

"No, we found her. She was kidnapped and used for experiments. We have not seen her since the fall. She is Vargas though," Zion explained.

"There are so many we need to run!" Zara yelled as it seemed they became aware of their presence and began to rush toward them.

"Run!" She heard Zion order and the warriors began to move back. What are these beast that caused Zion to run in fear Catori thought? She had never seen him move this way and she found it quite unsettling. 'Azira.'

'Yes, Catori?'

'Shall we?'

'Absolutely'

Zion looked back to make sure all his warriors were safe and in position. And where was Cat? His heart dropped. Turning back, he headed back up the hill, his heart was pounding in his chest. His eyes darting around trying to find her he started to panic. 'Where is, Cat!' He choked out? He could not lose her again.

'Alpha!' River yelled as Zion went barging up the hill. As soon as he made it to the top he froze. 'Catori!'

Catori could not explain what sleep had done to her. She had developed a thirst for blood. She did a flip down the center of the herd, rising up. She took her sword out and beheaded two beasts to her left and right. Landing on top of the beast, she wrapped her legs around its neck and drove her knife through his skull. Watching, it was a bloody mess as they came at her. She slung her weapons, killing one after another, and when she tired she stood letting them circle her. She snapped her and their necks broke. Then, as she cracked her neck, the beast burst into flames. Zion watched in awe as she looked toward the heavens and just where she stood the rain came down, washing the blood from her hair, arms and face. Once she was done showering, she stood waiting for the pack to join her.

"Are you insane? Why would you do that? You intentionally placed yourself in danger! What if you would have been killed?" Zion was yelling at Catori so loudly the earth was shaking.

"What if," Catori shrugged nonchalantly, "I would just be born again? So why fear the possibilities? Why are you so angry?"

"Because the last time you died, Catori you were gone for five years!" She could see the little vein in his forehead pulsating.

"The last time I trusted a friend. I will never make that mistake again. I trust no one, Not brother, friend nor mate." Catori rubbed the necklace around her neck, taking two steps back. Not noticing the flinching and looks shared between Kevin and River. "You should consider anger management, you yell a lot." Without a goodbye, she vanished into thin air. Zion growled ferociously as he yanked the ball cap off his head, tossing it to the ground.

"Damnit Catori get back here!"

Kevin looked at Zara and then at River as Zion had a complete meltdown. He was swinging in the air, punching and yelling obscenities.

"She really knows how to get under his skin, doesn't she?" Zara said.

"Yeah, the question is why isn't he getting under hers?" Something is not right, Kevin was thinking when River said, "I was thinking the exact same thing."

"What is wrong with our Luna>"

Catori returned to Talmage, taking his hand, "Sorry about the interruption. Where were we?"

"The white witches," Talmage said.

"Oh yes, let's go," Catori said. They were transported to Silver Crescent, meeting Chastity and Chandler. When she appeared, everyone began to cheer. "Thank you," Catori said to everyone and Chastity joined them. Catori saw Tabatha sitting outside.

"Good we need to talk." Breanna said,

"Vultures are circling your man. I had the same problem when I got here. Look, those bitches could have died in the fall and it would have made my day."

"What bitches?"

"Holly, Unique, and Kesha and they are circling your man. Now I, already told those bitches to stay away from Kevin, but you might want to let them know. Oh, and you didn't hear it from me. I'd pop up around lunch today." Tabatha looked at her, holding up a finger. "Be right back."

Breanna was on her second cigarette when Tabatha came outside with her hair back in a ponytail and her black Nike sneakers. She cracked her fingers and started to do stretches. She bounced around swinging a few punches in the air. "Hype me up girl!" Tabatha said, "Oh okay okay." Breanna said, "we are not putting up with this crap!"

"Damn right!" Tabatha said,

"We cook and clean and suck d**k! When those fuckers want!" Breanna yelled, "We change diapers and and and f**k when we are tired! And if those vultures think that they are just going to come and take our men!" Breanna was now bouncing around, now swinging in the air, it was weird though, "Wait, Breanna, Breanna! Have you ever been in a fight?"

"No no, I have not," Breanna said as Tabatha held her arms to her side now because she looked like she was going to fly away. "Okay honey, just point to where they live and stand behind me and just look mad okay."

"Right, I can do that!" Breanna pointed in the direction they were going and Tabatha and she went marching down the street. Catori lingered for a second longer. 'You want to help her, don't you?' Azira asked,

'f**k her,' Catori said,

'Then why are we still here?' Azira asked,

'I was considering checking on my sister, Azira.'

'Lies your indecisive nature is making my ass hurt. You know as well as I do she is not here. The stone around your neck is starting to affect both of us and not in a good way.' Azira snapped. Catori knew why she was cranky. She wanted Zion. She was hurting. So she ignored her attitude, "Shall we?" They all held hands and were Transported to the forest of light.
