At the time the library closed, it was another stormy night. My car was back at the precinct and by the time I got in, it was raining. I had to take the road slowly, leaving myself close to home near ten o’clock. Right before the turn-off to home, my car jerked and sputtered. I pulled over, turning it off. I tried the engine. It stalled, rolled over, but never turned on. I tried again, but the car would not start up. I hit the steering wheel. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” In disbelief my terrible day was going to end like this, I grabbed my backpack and started my trek through the forest to my house.
