Chapter 12

“I’d say it’s another successful night. Well done, Eiley.” Ronan was lounged across a sofa with a drink in hand. Annabelle was perched on the edge of the same sofa as Ronan. “I agree, I had quite a nice time.” “I still don’t understand why you come to these things, Ro. You already have everyone’s undying love and respect.” She sat across from them, occasionally bidding farewell to departing guests. The end of Eiley’s parties were usually a trickle, with more than a few new couplings and several guests relaxing after the music stopped. “I want them to know I can have some fun too,” he said, then he tried to sit up but succeeded only in kicking Annabelle. “Oh, Ann, I’m so sorry.” He put his hand on her arm and asked, “Have I hurt you?” Annabelle blushed. “No, I’m fine.” “Good.” He immediately withdrew his hand. “Where did Teresa run off to?” “I saw her leaving with that Earl. She can take care of herself.” Even as Eiley talked with Ronan and Annabelle, she watched Warren across the room. He was involved in a conversation with Lady Natalia, which made Eiley clench her jaw. The pair made their way across the room to where Eiley was seated. “Thank you for such a lovely party, Princess Eiley,” Natalia said with a curtsy. “I’ve had a wonderful time.” She turned and smiled at Warren, who sat down beside Eiley. “It was nice to make your acquaintance, Lady Natalia.” Natalia frowned. “Good night, then.” “Thank you for coming!” Eiley called as she turned to leave. When Eiley looked back at Warren, she felt an unwarranted thrill at his presence. “Did you have a nice time?” "It's been wonderful," Warren said, then he frowned pensively. "Though I have to admit, I'm starving."
