Chapter 4 A light snow was still falling as Paul climbed out of bed and crept his way to the kitchen. He could hear his mother still snoring in her bedroom and didn’t want to disturb her, and Cooper had stayed up so late the night before playing with his new Christmas presents, he figured the kid would be zonked out for another couple of hours. The linoleum floor creaked as he crossed over to the coffee machine and remembered Casey had gotten them one of those new Keurigs just before he moved out. He’d set it up and showed Paul how to use it, but he silently wished he had his old coffee pot back, the kind he knew how to operate, as he pushed the button and hoped the water heated up as it had the day before.
