ROMAN URSUS
One of the many reasons I adored myself was the inheritance of my great-grandfather's
gift—to possess Lycan powers. Sure, many accused me of abusing my power, like waging
war across the continent, but hey, any Alpha would have done the same if they saw what I
saw every single day.
Most packs were deep inside the continent, and only my pack and a few others were at the
borders. This meant every single f*****g day we stumbled upon bodies drained of blood. Not
just any bodies—kids, warriors, and even women.
The prophecy was slowly taking place. It wanted to be fulfilled, and I wasn’t about to have
that, so I did what no Alpha in the last seven thousand years had been able to do. I
conquered the continent... well, almost. As soon as I was done with Rosemoon Pack, the
entire twelve packs would answer to me.
Months ago, I had figured it would’ve been easier to win the prophesied war if everyone was
united under one ruler. And who better to rule the twelve packs of Tertius? Yeah, that’s
right... me!
I had spent four hundred years on the throne—longer than any Alpha. If anybody deserved
to be Alpha King, it was me.
"Now listen here, people. I want the Alpha, his son, and daughter,
" I said to my pack
members as we stood a few feet away from Rosemoon’s borders.
Their leader had refused to surrender and in doing so - - led his entire pack to their death. I
wasn’t ruthless, not by a long shot. I just preferred things to be done my way.
"Yes, Alpha,
"
The men replied with their heads bowed down. Their response satisfied me a great deal.
I had a system. It was simple, really: infiltrate a pack, round up the leaders—which were
Alpha, Luna, Beta, and their kids—kill them, and that officially made me the Alpha of that
certain pack.
Usually I didn't kill the pack members who recognised me as their new leader.
But in Rosemoon, I wanted to do things differently. Since they were so resilient, I would
wage war on them, and may the souls of those who were going to die here today rest in
peace.
While that thought nestled in my mind Zara inched closer to me. I had spared her six months
ago when I attacked her pack.
"So what's our plan?" she asked.
Did I hear correctly? A plan? Who needed a plan to attack farmers? Maybe farmers was a
stretch, but Rosemoon wasn’t the strongest of packs. Made one wonder why they even
bothered to put up a fight.
"There is no plan. Have you seen these people fight?"
I had to chop back a chuckle at that.
She stretched her neck up and stole a peck to my lower lip, which made my wolf growl. For
some reason, the dumb s**t hated Zara—and not to mention, he was extremely restless
today. He had issues of his own, I supposed.
Before she could retreat to the other pack members, I pulled her back, held her chin
between my index finger and thumb, and leaned down to kiss her.
"I was thinking, Alpha, that maybe instead of—
"
Levi’s voice cut our moment short. Never in my life had I been pissed at my Beta. He always
had wrong timing every single f*****g time.
Tension settled in my jaw, causing it to clench along with my fists. I turned to Levi to give him
a piece of my mind...
"You know what you should do, Levi?"
He nodded, eager to know.
"Stop f*****g thinking!"
By the time I looked away from him, Zara had already escaped to join the others. Sigh.
We were now a few steps from the big gate protecting Rosemoon, and that’s when my wolf -
Rome - decided to say...
“I can feel our mate. She's close.
”
By mate, I knew he didn’t mean Zara. He would never call her that, because he hated her
with every fur on his body.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
“So what, you're questioning my accuracy now?”
This was what I meant when I said he had issues.
The arrival of a mate would change everything for me. It would cause a rift between me and
Zara. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I loved her, but I cared about her to a fine extent, she was
competent enough to be my Luna.
"This would change everything,
" I said to my wolf.
“Yeah, for the better.
”
I watched as the wooden gates crumbled under the pressure from the iron rod my wolves
were hitting it with. Time for action.
"Rome, you ready?" I asked before letting him take control and watching from the back of my
mind.
“More than ever.
” the furry creature replied with an animalistic growl. Sure, we both had our
differences, but we were equally sick. Him more than me.
Once the gates fell, we swarmed in like bees. Our intention was to kill all in our path. There
was no use in sparing any of them—they were shitty fighters anyway. They wouldn't be of
much help during the prophesied war either.
I watched from the back of my mind as Rome, in his Lycan form, ripped throat after throat.
The mutt was ruthless in the battlefield and sometimes it made me glad that I wasn’t the one
on his receiving end.
In the distance, a Gray wolf stalked in my direction. It was Levi's wolf... Great! There was
something I needed him to do.
“The odds are in our favour Alpha.
” he spoke through the mind link.
“Great. Find me the Alpha and bring him to me.
”
From the back of my mind, I caught a whiff of smoked amber mixed with cinnamon and a
bit... Was it burning cedar? In short, it was the sweetest smell I've ever caught. On second
thought..
“When you find him, kill him; along with his children.
”
Before he could reply I caught a whiff of that scent again. My wolf growled before dashing in
the opposite direction from the battle—surely to get to the source of the scent. For once, I
agreed with him. We didn’t have to go far before the scent got stronger—so much so that it
was driving us nuts.
I felt a tightening in my chest, a raw emotion I couldn't describe as we got closer and closer
to the scent. It made my blood boil, made me want to break free from Rome and gain
control. Mate! It had to be her, only the bond can make me this feral.
From the side of my eye, I caught trails of blonde hair and a short, petite figure. I stopped to
truly look at her. She was...
I couldn't see much of her face because of the blonde locks that kept sticking in every part of
her. The heck…It wasn't even windy. But from the little that I saw, her soft kissable pink lips
or the high cheekbones... The moon goddess did me justice because the girl was...
“Magnetic,
” my wolf completed my sentence.
She let out a soft gasp as she looked at me—and Rome, or me, I couldn’t tell—released an
animalistic, possessive growl.
"Mate!”
