I didn't have the energy to fight her, so I let her slowly lead my weak legs back inside the clubhouse and down onto the large leather couch in the center of the main room. A few of the other club old ladies were gathered around the wooden tables nearby, speaking in very quiet, hushed whispers. The emotional tension hanging in the air of the room was thick enough to physically choke on. Nobody was laughing. Nobody was relaxed.
