The Rush was real! Theo raced through the shrubbery. He cut through the vines with his sword not daring to look back. He could hear his predator, stalking him, chasing him, crashing through the wilderness. It was faster, stronger and it was persistent. Theo could see the blue shimmering dome, protecting its inhibitants from the monsters residing in the forest. It wasnt far, but it wasnt near enough. The monster would catch him. He could hear it gaining, hissing. He knew his only chance.
They'd told him it was for emergencies only. Well this certainly looked like one. He grapped the fang from his pocket. It felt warm and ancient. He hoped it would work. Silently praying, he threw it down and yelled "Protect me".
He didnt dare look behind. He knew it had worked. He saw the crimson glow. But he knew he wasnt safe till he reached the dome.
Only once he entered did he look behind. The dome was strong and radiated magic, monsters would'nt be able to penetrate it. As he turned to spot the creature he saw none. The fang had probably done its job.
He turned back to look at the castle. Nestled safely in the dome, it was large, majestic. As he looked upon its stone walls his heart beat faster. He was here at last.
The door was wide open. Theo walked down the large passage which seemed to lead straight into the heart of the castle. He came upon a stout door at the end. It was magically protected, impenetrable. Thankfully they'd told him what to do. The trick was in the knocking. Three knocks, loud and clear. First one slow and paced, then a brisk second and then a quick third.
The door opened wide, revealing a beautiful room. Large bookcases lined the sides of the room. Books with silver binds were crammed into them. A large chandelier hung from the ceiling, emanating what seemed to be moonlight. At the other end of the room lay a large hearth and by it on an intricately carved, magnificient wickerchair sat an old man, eyes twinkling, smiling at him.
He motioned Theo to an unoccupied chair opposite him. As Theo settled in, he introduced himself "I am The Game Master, keeper of this castle, master of the runes, tamer of the wisdom bird.
"I offer my hearty congratulations Theo! You have mastered The Rush!" he boomed. "You have made it farther than all your contemporaries. And to celebrate this moment I anoint you the new Game Master!"
Theo woke up grinning. "That was some dream, wish life was that cool" he grumbled. As he kicked off his pajamas and got up to dress for the day.
