Selene's phone buzzed.
She groaned.
No.
Absolutely not.
She grabbed it from the couch and glanced at the screen.
Raven Hale....
Selene nearly dropped the phone.
"How did she even get my number?"
After staring at the screen for several seconds, she finally opened the messages.
Raven: Did you get home safely?
A second message sat right below it.
Raven: Did you finish Chapter Seven?
Selene immediately typed back.
Selene: How did you get my number?
The typing bubble appeared almost instantly.
Raven: Oh.
Raven: That's what you're worried about?
Selene narrowed her eyes.
Selene: Answer the question.
A few seconds passed.
Then.....
Raven: Zoe.
Selene blinked.
Immediately, she opened her contacts and hit call.
The phone barely rang once.
"Hello?"
"YOU GAVE RAVEN MY NUMBER?"
On the other end of the call, Zoe burst out laughing.
"Oh my God. That's why you're calling?"
"THAT'S WHY I'M CALLING!"
"Selene, relax."
"Relax?"
"It's not like I gave your number to a serial killer."
"You gave it to Raven Hale!"
"I know."
"WHY?"
Zoe sounded completely unbothered.
"Because she asked."
Silence.
Selene stared at the wall.
"That's it?"
"Yeah."
"You just gave my number away?"
"She said she needed it for the project."
Selene groaned and dropped back onto the couch.
Of course.
The project.
Before she could continue arguing, another message appeared.
Raven: Is Zoe getting yelled at right now?
Selene stared at the screen.
Then typed:
Selene: Yes.
A reply appeared immediately.
Raven: Fair enough.
Selene wanted to throw her phone across the room.
Instead, she tossed it onto the couch beside her.
Three seconds later it buzzed again.
She grabbed it.
Unfortunately.
Raven: For what it's worth, I wasn't planning on stealing your identity.
Selene rolled her eyes.
Selene: Very comforting.
Raven: You're welcome.
Selene dropped her forehead onto the coffee table.
"She's unbelievable."
Another buzz.
Selene didn't even look up.
Raven: You should probably study Chapter Seven though.
A pause.
Then another message.
Raven: Professor Reyes hinted there might be a quiz.
Selene frowned.
Slowly, she lifted her head.
That actually sounded useful.
Another text arrived.
Raven: Don't tell Zoe I helped you.
Selene stared at the message for several seconds.
Then, despite herself, she laughed.
Which only made her more annoyed.
Because now she couldn't even decide whether Raven Hale was insufferable...
Or just weird.
