The Prisoner

The small, dimly lit prison evaluation room felt heavier than usual. Rose sat quietly, her shoulders slumped, tears tracing silent paths down her cheeks. She couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened, how love, for once, hadn’t favored her. “And just like that… my fairy tale with my Prince Charming is over,” she whispered to herself, her voice trembling as more tears spilled. She sat there, still crying, waiting for the prisoner to come, the weight of heartbreak pressing heavily on her chest. Rose’s tears blurred her vision as she waited, her mind still replaying the events that had shattered her heart. Then she heard a calm, smooth voice say, “You look pretty when you cry.” Her hand froze mid-motion as she picked up her glasses and looked up. “Oh my God…” she whispered under her breath. This was David’s father. The same man whose picture she had seen on David’s phone. The prisoner she was supposed to evaluate was no ordinary inmate. He was the mafia king, the most dangerous man in the world. He was the leader of the SoDo Empire, a name that sent shivers down anyone who even whispered it. Men feared him,Governments respected him, and enemies disappeared without a trace. Darius kane, the feared mafia king, was in prison for orchestrating one of the most notorious criminal operations in history. He had been convicted of racketeering, money laundering, and a series of high-profile assassinations that shook the underworld. Entire empires had fallen at his command, and yet, even in prison, his influence stretched far beyond the walls. Rose’s hands trembled as she tried to steady herself, her heart racing at the sight of Darius Kane. He was seated in an orange prison scrub, the weight of the handcuffs visible on his wrists. A police officer stepped forward and opened the handcuffs, the metal clicking as it fell away. Rose took a shaky breath, trying to ground herself. “He’s a criminal… a murderer… you got this, Rose” She whispered under her breath, summoning every ounce of courage to face the most dangerous man in the world. Darius Kane leaned back slightly, his piercing eyes fixed on her. He ran a hand slowly through his beard, staring at her with an intensity that made her pulse quicken. Swallowing the lump in her throat, Rose straightened in her chair. “Mr. Darius, my name is Rose Whitmore, and I will be administering your state of psychological assessment,” She said, her voice steady despite the fear and adrenaline coursing through her. Darius Kane’s piercing gaze never left her. He leaned forward slightly, the weight of his presence pressing down on her. “You’re the one doing my psychological evaluation… to determine my release,” He said slowly, each word deliberate. “And yet… you look like a little girl playing doctor.” Rose’s hand trembled as she reached for her notepad, and suddenly, her pen slipped from her fingers, falling to the other side of the table. Before she could move, Darius Kane leaned forward and picked it up for her. His fingers brushed hers as he handed it back, the touch slow and deliberate, sending an unexpected shiver down her spine. Rose took the pen quickly, forcing herself to look away. “Pull it together, Rose. Don’t let him get to you”. She whispered to herself, taking a deep breath. Darius Kane leaned back slightly, his piercing gaze never leaving her. “So… Miss Whitmore,” he said, his voice smooth and deliberate, “where do we begin?” Rose started, her voice slightly shaky. “Can you—” She cleared her throat, forcing herself to regain composure. “Can you please state your name and date of birth?” Darius Kane’s eyes glimmered with amusement. “You are well aware of my history, Miss Whitmore,” he said, his voice smooth and taunting. Rose straightened, cutting him off firmly. “This is standard procedure, Mr. Kane,” She said, her tone professional, trying to suppress the flutter of nerves his words always seemed to stir. Rose took a steadying breath, trying to push down the tension that tightened her chest. “The next question I’m going to ask,” She began, her voice firm despite the nervous flutter inside her, “is going to be more personal and psychological.” Darius Kane’s eyes narrowed slightly, a faint smirk tugging at his lips as he leaned back, clearly intrigued by her words. What gives you the right to ask me anything?” He asked. Rose’s hand trembled as she dropped the pen. She quickly reached for her license card and held it up. “The state has issued me a license to—” She began, trying to keep her voice steady. Before she could finish, Darius Kane gripped her hands, leaning in slightly, his sharp gaze locking onto hers. The faint scent of lavender lingered in the air. “Lavender,” he murmured, his voice low and deliberate. “You must be a virgin.” Shock froze Rose in place, her heart hammering in her chest. “If you don’t let me go… I swear, I will scream!” She said, her voice sharp and trembling. Darius Kane’s lips curved into a slow, almost cruel smile. “Do you… promise?” He asked, leaning closer, testing her resolve. Her hands shook, but she drew in a deep breath and shouted with all the strength she had: “GUARD!” “ The sound of her voice echoed through the room. The door burst open, and a guard rushed in, eyes wide at the commotion. Darius Kane’s lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. “That’s so cute,” He murmured, his voice low and mocking. Still holding Rose’s hands, he turned to the guard, his piercing gaze freezing the man in place. “Get the f**k out of here, cow boy,” he ordered. The guard didn’t waste another second, he bolted from the room, leaving the door swinging behind him. Darius Kane released her hand slowly, his gaze never leaving hers. “I run this prison, Doc,” He said, his voice low, cold, and dripping with authority. Rose steadied her trembling hands and lifted her pen, pointing it firmly at herself. “He might be afraid of you,” She said, her voice steady despite the tension, “but I am not.” She took a deep breath, letting her confidence grow. “I still determine your chances for early release, Mr. Kane. So… I suggest you cooperate with me, if you want to get out of here.” Darius Kane’s dark eyes studied her, a slow, intrigued smile forming on his lips. Rose placed her hands neatly on her lap, adjusting her posture as she tried to maintain professionalism. The motion caused the suit she wore to shift slightly, revealing the edge of her inner shirt. She ignored it, focusing on the task at hand. “Now, Mr. Darius,” she said, her voice steady despite the tension in the room, “please describe the actions which landed you here in prison.” Rose’s eyes narrowed as she stared at him, confused by the slow, almost predatory smile playing on his lips. “Your shirt… gives it all away,” Darius Kane said, leaning forward deliberately, his finger pointing to her visibly hard n*****s. “My—” Rose started, her voice faltering for a split second. Quickly, she looked down, her eyes widened in shock, she covered herself with her hands. “Mr. Darius!” she shouted, her voice trembling. Darius Kane leaned back slightly, a low, dark laugh escaping him. Rose’s hands still pressed against herself, she straightened. “I suggest that you take this seriously, Mr. Darius,” she said, her voice sharp and commanding. Darius Kane leaned back, a slow, amused smirk spreading across his face. “Sweetheart, I couldn’t take you seriously even if I tried,” he said, his tone teasing Rose placed her hands firmly back on the table, determined to regain control of the situation. Darius Kane’s eyes flicked to her, and he reached to grip her hand, testing her again. “No,” Rose said firmly, pulling her hand away. A slow, dark smile spread across Darius’s face. “Good,” he said, his tone low and deliberate. “I like my girls a little feisty.” “That’s it,” she said firmly, slamming the words down like a gavel. “I have given you plenty of chances.” She grabbed the documents on the table and began signing them, she had reached her limit. “I recommend continued imprisonment……. without parole,” she declared, her tone unwavering despite the tension in the room. Darius Kane’s dark eyes flicked toward the door. “Cowboy! Get back in here,” he barked The guard quickly stepped back inside, tension evident in his movements. Darius leaned forward slightly, a smirk playing on his lips. “Why don’t we tell cute little Doctor Rose here… who determines my release date? The guard swallowed, his voice low. “You do, King Darius.” Rose shook her head slightly, trying to keep her composure as she began packing her things. Darius’s voice followed her as she moved toward the door. “I’ll see you on the outside, Doctor,” he said. She paused, meeting his gaze. “We’ll see about that,” she replied, firm and unwavering. A slow, amused smile spread across his face. “You can count on it,” he said, his voice echoing in the room as she left.
