wedding

I muttered, my voice shaking but firm, “Then… end it. Let’s stop hurting each other.” For a moment, the apartment was silent. He finally looked up from his laptop, his face softening as he realized I wasn’t joking. “Baby… I’m sorry,” he said, his voice low. “It’s just… I needed the money for a company investment. Some deals went wrong—that’s why everything got messed up.” I stared at him, my chest still tight, trying to process his words. Relief battled with the hurt I still felt. So it wasn’t about Amber… it wasn’t about cheating? I sank onto the edge of the bed, running a hand through my hair. “Leo… you could have just told me. Why make me panic like that?” He reached out, gently taking my hand. “I know, Sophie… I should have. I messed up. But please, trust me—we’ll fix this together.” I took a shaky breath, still staring at him. “Leo… who is Amber?” I asked, my voice trembling. He froze, eyes widening in shock. “Amber? Who… who said Amber?” I held up the red card from the gift. “This. The card inside the Coach bag and the shoes. It says, ‘For my dearest Amber.’” Leo ran a hand over his face, clearly frustrated with himself. “Oh… that. That was a mistake,” he said finally, his voice low. “The cards got mixed up. The gifts… they were for you, Sophie. Not anyone else.” I blinked, trying to process his words. Relief and embarrassment washed over me, but so did lingering anger. So all that panic, all that worry… it was a mix-up? I sank onto the edge of the bed, Elena brushing against my leg. “You… you could’ve told me,” I whispered, my voice still shaky. “I thought—” “I know, Sophie,” Leo interrupted softly, taking my hand. “I messed up. I should’ve checked the gifts. I never meant to scare you—or make you doubt me.” He pulled me close and pressed a soft peck to my lips. “Don’t worry, you little mind,” he whispered, his voice gentle. “Everything will go well. It’ll be perfect.” He smiled and added, “I’ll send you the address. And… please, Soph, can you deposit the remaining money for the honeymoon prep? I promise I’ll pay you back once I have it.” I looked at him, heart swelling. I didn’t mind. As long as we were together, nothing else mattered. In that moment, I felt like we could face anything—together, we could win against any obstacle life threw at us. I rested my head against his chest, letting a deep sigh escape me. Finally, after all the confusion, the fear, the panic… we were okay. It was already 6:30 when we finished our makeup session. I got up to leave, leaned over, and pecked Leo one last time on the lips. “Can’t wait to see you later,” I whispered. He smiled softly. “Me too… Soph.” Elena was resting in the sitting room, her little body curled up on the couch. I picked her up and headed for the door, my mind racing. Today was going to be long… but I couldn’t stop smiling. Next, I went to the salon to have my hair done. Before I knew it, it was 3:00, and the wedding was scheduled for 4:00. It was just friends and family—nothing too big, just for the memories. I tried on my gown, and suddenly the emotions hit me. At 24, I had lived a quiet, lonely life. No close friends, just work and Elena. I had one colleague I was close to—but she couldn’t attend today. Even though my company had sent gifts to honor me as their greatest agent, the one who generates the most revenue for them, I still felt a pang of loneliness. This day was supposed to be perfect, but I couldn’t shake the mix of excitement and melancholy swirling inside me. I finally received the address—it was tucked away on the outskirts of the city, in a quiet little forested area just outside Calgary. My heart skipped a beat. The thought of a hidden, secluded venue made the day feel intimate and special, without feeling too far from home. Elena rested quietly in my arms as I stared at the message, imagining the tall trees and winding paths leading to a place no one would expect. I couldn’t help but smile nervously. Leo loved surprises—but part of me wondered if this was a little too much of one. I tucked my phone away and whispered to Elena, “Well, girl… looks like our wedding day just got even more interesting.” She wagged her tail, as if sensing the excitement—and maybe the little bit of nervousness—I felt. I slipped into the car, Elena snug in my arms, and tried to calm the fluttering in my stomach. The road to the venue wound gently through quiet streets and small patches of forest—just far enough to feel like an escape, but not so far that it was unreachable. By the time we arrived, the sun was beginning to dip, casting golden light across the trees. A narrow path led to a small clearing, and there it was—a charming little venue, tucked away from the city’s noise. It was cozy and intimate, surrounded by nature, exactly the kind of personal, heartfelt wedding I had secretly dreamed of. I stepped out of the car, holding Elena close, my heart pounding with anticipation. The soft hum of the evening—the rustle of leaves, the chirping of birds—made the place feel almost magical. I adjusted my gown, smoothing the folds nervously, and whispered, “This… this is actually perfect.” With every step down the path, I felt my excitement grow. Today was our day, the start of our life together. And as I approached the venue, I couldn’t help but feel that, no matter what challenges came our way, we could face them together. I gently set Elena down and took a deep breath before stepping onto the aisle. Every detail around me—the soft petals lining the path, the warm glow of lanterns, the gentle rustle of leaves—looked so beautiful, so real, I could hardly believe it was happening. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I couldn’t contain them. My heart raced with joy, excitement, and the overwhelming realization that today… today was truly ours. At the end of the altar stood Leo, looking more handsome than I could have imagined in his black tuxedo. My breath caught in my throat as I took in the sight of him—strong, confident, and yet entirely mine. Leo took my hands in his, his eyes locking onto mine with a warmth that made my heart skip. The world around us seemed to fade—just the two of us standing there, the quiet rustle of leaves and soft whispers of our friends and family as witnesses. “Sophia,” he began, his voice low but steady, “from the moment I met you, I knew my life had changed forever. You are my heart, my home, my everything. I promise to stand by you, to protect you, to laugh with you, and to love you even on the days when life gets hard. I will celebrate your victories, hold you through your fears, and never let go. You are my forever, and I vow to make our life together as beautiful as this moment.” My eyes filled with tears as I squeezed his hands. When it was my turn, I took a deep breath, letting the emotions pour out. “Leo, you are my dream, my safe place, my best friend. I promise to love you fiercely, to support you endlessly, and to face every challenge together. I will celebrate you, stand by you, and never let fear or doubt come between us. Today, surrounded by those we love, I give you my heart, my trust, and my life. You are my forever, and I will cherish every moment with you.” He smiled, brushing a tear from my cheek. “I love you, Soph.” “I love you too, Leo,” I whispered, feeling every word with my whole heart. And in that moment, as we exchanged rings and sealed our vows with a gentle kiss, I knew—no matter what had happened yesterday, no matter the misunderstandings or the fear—I was exactly where I was meant to be.
