Amber finally found some sleep. I stared out into the bleak darkness while I drove through the Neutral Area, a wild and hostile landscape that suddenly seemed like a safer place than the cities.
Nobody was interested in the Neutral Area anymore. All the criminals and terrorists crossed the border now to wreak havoc on the cities that lay open for everybody to enter, overflowing with riches and resources unknown to those who had been banned.
Rahab stared out the window, watching forests pass by.
“I’ll drive through Glasgow,” I said.
“Why? We need to drive around. It's not safe.”
“We need to get to Area Three as quickly as possible. It's a much shorter way. It will save us hours.”
“Or cost us our lives. Why the hurry?”
