“Henry. Henry, wake up,” Annie whispered, shaking her brother softly.
He grunted and brushed her hand away.
“Henry!” she hissed, and he jumped up.
“What it is?”
“Shhhht!”
He glanced at her with his big eyes that she barely recognized in the darkness.
“We leave,” she said. “Let’s go.”
“Now? Why the heck now?”
“Because pa won’t help us, and we have no time to lose.”
“But can’t we wait ‘til breakfast…?”
“They won’t let us leave easily, and you know it. It’s best we leave now. Before pa can stop our plans.”
“What plans?”
“Just get dressed! I’ll explain later.”
He nodded reluctantly. Annie started to leave when a voice from the other end of the room whispered, “You’re not thinking of leaving without me, are you? If so, I’ll never forgive it.”
