Emmeline’s POV
Everything Dominic said about no one coming for me now makes sense. I have been missing for a year. My family and friends must think I’m dead. These thoughts haunt me over the last two days. All I could do was sob and remain curled up in a protective position. I couldn’t eat or even care about anything at the moment.
Luckily the Alpha has not returned to visit me since our last encounter, and for that I am thankful. I have found Dr. Adams to be kind. He has tried to provide me comforting information. I learned I am only eight hours away from my pack lands and that it is the beginning of summer.
I am able to move around my room more now that my strength has improved. I try to keep my abilities on the downlow so that the Alpha isn’t made aware and has me move into his section. I do not want to be put into a position where I am forced to mate him. I spend most of my days looking out the window trying to take in as much information as possible on the Black Fire Pack. It appears that the pack has set up residence in a canyon located in the mountains. Most of the buildings look like abandoned warehouses and small homes which have been remodeled slightly to accommodate the members. Dr. Adams has shared the pack holds about 500 members, all who were exiled or chose to go rogue, but now were given another chance at pack life. Dr. Adams says that about half of the pack members truly seek and deserve a second chance at pack a family while the rest just seek elevation and power. I can’t imagine how it must have felt to be a rogue and have no choice when it comes to finding a pack family.
“So beautiful.” Dominic’s deep voice fills the room behind me, making me cringe. I turned around to see him leaning against the doorway watching me. His eyes trailed my body up and down. “It’s good to see you up and taking in your new home. Soon we can move you to our living quarters.” He stated walking in a looking out the window next to me.
“No thank you.” I stated plainly walking towards the bed and sitting down. He turned and raised an eyebrow at me.
“I wasn’t asking.” He glared at me with a clenched jaw. All the muscles in his body seemed to contract. The air in the room was filled with tension, but I was not going to back down.
I sigh and look him in the eyes. “I believe you made a mistake. You really do not want me by your side. Many in my pack can assure you that I am not meant to be in a high-ranking position.”
Dominic merely laughs at my statements. “That is where you are wrong little wolf. You hold quite some power within you. You just have yet discover it. With you we will be able to take down the elders that have held their positions for far too long.” I gasp as he reveals his true intentions to me.
He sits on the bed and pulls me to sit up against him. “The elders have been holding our kind captive and in the past. We hold more power than they are willing to admit, in order to try and keep the peace amongst the rest of the creatures in this world. However, what they are really doing is holding us back and making us weak. They do not want those who see things differently around, because they don’t like being challenged. So, that is how the Black Fire Pack was created. A group of like-minded individuals who want to take down those who are trying to smother those who see things differently. Those who want to take back the power that has been wrongfully misplaced.” He says sinisterly as his grip on me tightens again making me wince.
“Let’s say I join you and you win. Then what?”
“You would be the vessel for my pups.” He says looking at me curiously. “They would be strong like us.”
I shake my head vigorously. “But I wouldn’t be you mate.”
“Excuse me?”
“You said vessel not mate. I know there is someone else who actually loves you.” I state glaring at him. I watch as his eyes flash red and then quickly change back to black.
“Watch it little wolf. Mia and I have a complicated past, but yes she will always be a part of me.” He says letting go of my knee to run his hand through his hair.
“Well then it’s settled, you don’t need me.” I state pushing myself further away from him.
He reaches out quickly and pins me own onto the bed. He hovers over me breathing rapidly. I squirm trying to get away, but again his grip just tightens. I start to panic. This male could easily kill me and I never had any training to defend myself. I feel his hand at my throat pinning me down further into the mattress and constricting my air flow.
“You will be mine little wolf. I get what I want and I don’t stop, so rid yourself of any little thoughts of getting out of this.” He states inches away from my face. He takes a deep breath and I watch as his eyes turn black as soot. He abruptly lets go of my throat causing me to gasp for air. Each breath I take in burns and my eyes fill with tears as I glare back at my captor only to see him smirking at me.
He leans back away from me and yells out. “Dr. Adams!”
I watch as Dr. Adams and a nurse quickly come running to the room and bow their heads slightly to Dominic. Concern is etched across Dr. Adams face while the nurse looks at me with disgust.
“Make sure she is ready to be discharged in two days, no exceptions. The full moon is upon us this week.” Dominic says standing and straightening out his shirt. He leans forward placing himself a mere inch away from my ear. “I can smell your virginity little wolf.” I gasp and shift back away from him. He chuckles at my response. “This will be fun I haven’t taken that in such a long time.” He says shoving his hands in his pockets before heading out the door of my hospital room.
I watch as the nurse follows him quickly only aiming to please her Alpha. I break down in a fit of sobs as I am left with Dr. Adams. He quickly comes to my side and checks me over to make sure I am not harmed. He stands there and lets me cry while rubbing my back. As I start to collect myself, I decide that I am not going to make this easy for Dominic. I glance up and see two figures standing behind Dr. Adams. In the doorway is the male named Matteo and the other brute who I recall being at the mall.
“Your needed down the hall Doc.” Matteo says gesturing down the hall. Dr. Adams nods and quickly leaves the room going to attend to the other patients.
Matteo just grins at me. “I’m happy to see your awake, Luna. You had us all scared there for a minute.” He says sincerely.
“I’m not your Luna.” I state coldly making the other brute growl at me from the doorway.
“Oh why not?” Matteo asks taking a seat next to my bed his eyes travel to my throat and I can see concern flicker across his face.
“Well lets see. First of all I was brought here against my will. Away from my family and friends who I love dearly. Secondly, I have been told I will accept some jerk as my mate and that I don’t have a choice. He has made it very clear that it is a choice and there is no love between us. Lastly, there have been very few who actually look pleased to see me.” I say gesturing towards the brute in the doorway. “So no I’m not going to be the Luna.”
“You will do as your told, Brat!” The brute growls from the doorway making me flinch slightly.
“Roy, quit trying to scare her into submission. It’s not going to do us any good.” Matteo says glaring at the brute who stands in the corner.
“You heard what the Alpha said, she just needs to shut her mouth and spread those pretty little legs for him. That is her only purpose. That is all we need from her. Mia can do the rest.” The one named Roy states before glaring at me. “And I will make sure to help make her do as she is told.”
I suck in a quivering breath and move away from the both of them. Matteo growls lowly while he glares at Roy. “You go wait outside.” He states pointing to the doorway. Roy huffs, but does what he is told.
“I’m sorry for that.” Matteo says looking back towards me. “Not everyone here acts like that. As for our Alpha I’m sorry about that too. There are actually many who are hopeful in finding a Luna so that this truly can be a pack. That’s really what most of us want……. a second chance.” He mutters looking down at his hands. “Of course, our Alpha doesn’t seem to be making our hopes for a second chance very likely with this type of behavior.” He says mostly to himself while giving a small shrug.
“I believe in second chances.” I mumble looking down at my hands. “But I don’t believe in forcing me.”
“I’m confused.” He states looking at me with curiosity. “We were told that you were already his mate, and that you were being held hostage by your former pack.”
I stared at him with wide eyes. “No, that is not true. I have never rejected anyone, and I have never met him before. Also, he has someone already, he admitted that to me.” I rush out in hopes that he will believe me.
Matteo just stares at me for a few minutes before taking a deep breath. “So he and the witch lied?” I nod frantically feeling like I have someone else who will finally believe me.
Matteo contemplates this for a second but eventually lets out a long sigh. “I’m so sorry, but there isn’t much I can do. Once he has something in his mind he doesn’t stop. The best I can offer you is a friend who will try to help keep you safe…..as much as possible.” He mumbles.
“But aren’t you his Beta?” I ask desperately.
“Nope, just a gamma.” He chuckles slightly. “Seriously though, I don’t believe you deserve this. I hope you can learn to trust me.” He says softly making me smile a little.
Just then the brute, named Roy, comes back into the room glaring at both of us. “Enough of all this chit chat.” He says gesturing between the two of us. “Alpha wants us back and wants his mate to rest. In two days her pretty little bum will be his, and he wants his future wifey well rested.” He says looking at me with both hatred and what appears to be his own lust. I shudder a bit and turn to look out the window. I hear Matteo growl slightly at Roy, as he stands from his seat.
“You are not helping our Alpha’s cause.” Matteo states, and I hear his quick footsteps moving from the room.
“Like I care.” Roy sneers before slamming the door harshly.
I sat there as a sob that I was holding deep within me breaks free. My chest hurts and I find myself unable to breathe. Panic rises quickly and I look around frantically searching for a way to get the air I desperately needed. Machines in the room start to alarm causing Dr. Adams to come running back into my room.
“Emmeline you need to calm down, you are having a panic attack.” He states getting down at my level. “I need you to focus on my voice and breathing, okay?” He slowly takes a deep breath and hold my eye contact. He continues to breathe in and out slowly until my breathing matches his own. Once my vitals stabilize, he takes a seat next to me. He seems to be watching me to make sure I am truly alright now.
I take a deep breath trying to steady my nerves. “I’m leaving tonight.” I state looking up at Dr. Adams. He only nods in response clearly shaken from what he has witnessed. I clench my fists in my lap as I consider how vile Dominic is. I want to help take him down, not build him up.
“You will need supplies and help. I will do what I can.” Dr. Adams says. “Stay put until I return.” He turns and walks out of the room leaving me alone again.
I glance out the window once more and see that the sky is clouded over, and dark clouds are moving in from the west. I start to wonder about my family and friends. Oh goddess what happened to Lily or the Luna? They were in the mall when the attack happened. An attack that was all my fault. I place my face in my hands as tears threaten to fall from my eyes again. The guilt and shame I feel is overwhelming. I get up and go to the small closet in my room where the nurse placed some clothes for me. I pull on a pair of leggings and a long green tunic tank with a gray zip up hoodie over it. Sitting on the bed I wait for Dr. Adams. Tonight, will be the night I escape and join those who can take down Dominic.
