Clark’s POV
Emmeline stood there dripping wet glaring at me with her arms crossed over her chest. I held in a chuckle as she looked so cute right now. I step towards her but she just steps back shaking her head.
“You aren’t being fair!” She groaned throwing her hands up and running them through her damp hair.
“I believe I’m being as fair as I possibly can be with my mate who is not thinking straight.”
“I’m perfectly fine!” She seethed glaring at me.
“Oh really?” I can only smirk looking at how strong she is trying to be while intoxicated. “Then why are you soaking wet, unbalanced and making some decisions you wouldn’t typically make?”
She scoffs at me as she stands there shivering. “You caused me to fall in the water. I’m unbalanced because the world keeps moving funny, and my thoughts are very clear.” She sways slightly and grabs her head trying to stop the dizziness.
“You should lie down and make yourself comfortable.” I gesture towards the bed causing her to turn and frown while looking around the room. “I’m going to grab you a bucket just in case.” I mutter walking out of the room and shutting the door behind me.
Downstairs I find Elena soothing Lewis who looks pale as he holds a bucket between his legs while sitting on the floor. Matt is lounging on the couch pinching the bridge of his nose while Parker is picking up bottles and trash off the floor.
“Where is Lily?” I ask entering the room.
“We were able to get her to her room and to bed. Hopefully she didn’t drink as much as Lewis and will just have a very bad hangover. Tomorrow she should have a blood test to determine what exactly was put in the drinks. Parker also gathered an array of bottles and cups to be tested. Now he is just picking up the trash.” Elena explains grimacing as Lewis loses it into the bucket he is holding.
“Good. Where can I find another bucket just in case Emmeline needs one as well?”
“In the laundry room.” Elena replies while patting Lewis on the back. “After he is finished, we will take him to his room and head to bed. Parker is going to stay with Lewis to make sure he doesn’t choke in his sleep.” Lewis groans at her statements making Elena chuckle at his despair.
Once I find the bucket, I quickly make my way back up to the bedroom hoping that Emmeline hasn’t found herself in the same position my brother is in. The worries I have quickly vanish as I open the door and find Emmeline looking perfectly fine. Unfortunately, I’m not fine. I stand there with wide eyes staring at my half naked mate standing in front of me in a black bra with matching panties. Her damp hair dangles down to her waist, perfectly outlining her breasts. The sight of her like this feels like I have been punched in the chest as I lose my breath.
She stares at me looking confused. “What?” She asks in a whiny tone.
“Um, I didn’t expect to see you like this.” I gesture my hand up and down causing her to notice her attire. A pink color fills her cheeks, and her arms wrap themselves around her torso.
“Stop looking at me like that. I was just doing as you asked, it’s not like you haven’t seen a female’s body before.” She mutters looking away from me.
I sigh as I realize where this conversation is going. Emmeline continues to keep her gaze away from mine and it appears that she is close to tears. I slowly walk over to a dresser and pull out some clothes. I slip into the closet and change myself into something more comfortable. Exiting I walk over and stand right in front of Emmeline who doesn’t move an inch.
“Let’s put you into something warm.” I mumble handing her one of my large t-shirts.
She looks at me confused as she takes the shirt. “Aren’t you mad at me? I thought you were upset that I finally was getting attention.”
“Silly girl. I’m not mad.” I state gesturing her to hold her arms up as I slip my shirt over her head. My shirt looks huge on her small frame. I smirk looking at her as my shirt reaches just above her knees, looking more like a dress then a shirt. “I just want your attention on me and not on other males.”
Emmeline smirks again with blush filling her cheeks. “You have never wanted my attention before. No one did.”
“That is not true. I didn’t know you, and once I met you that is where my attention was. Also, it seems lately like every male looks at you with quite a bit of interest.”
She giggles and wraps her arms around my waist. “You’re silly.” She mumbles as she holds onto me tightly.
“No, I care.” I state lowering my head to breathe in her beautiful scent.
She looks up at me lovingly. Her eyes fixated on mine as a small, beautiful smile fills her face. I feel a strong pull towards her. Slowly I lower my head as she wraps her hands around my neck pulling herself closer to me. The moment my lips touch hers I about lose all control as the sparks rush through my body. My blood rushing to my groin creating a tension in my shorts. Emmeline also seems lost in the kiss. She moans softly against me causing me to smile at the thought that I’m the one who gets her to create those beautiful sounds. I groan as I internally remind myself to stop before anything goes farther. I’m not the one who wants to take advantage of my mate.
“We need to stop. It’s getting late.” I state pulling away from her softly.
“What? What’s wrong?” Emmeline asks looking at me concerned and a bit hurt.
“Nothing, I just don’t think tonight should be the night we mate. You deserve something better, something more special.” I say softly stroking her cheek.
“Okay.” She whispers softly blushing again.
“Come on let’s get to bed.”
I pick her up gently making her gasp and throw her arms around my neck. Placing her into the bed I join her pulling her against my chest. She tenses in my hold briefly, but slowly she starts to relax as she breathes in my scent. I smile as I feel my mate drift to sleep. Her chest rising softly with each breath. I start to relax as well now that my mate is peacefully sleeping. My eyes grow heavy as I fall asleep staring at her beautiful face in the moonlight.
It’s clear that she has already stolen my heart.
Emmeline’s POV
Soft rays of light disturb me from my sleep. I wish I could curse the sun for causing me to wake from my dreams. They were delightful dreams of a future with my mate. However, the sun is unkind and pulls me from my slumber only to be greeted by the most splitting headache. I groan while bringing my hand up to my head trying to ease the pain as well as the blinding light. I have never felt so hungover. I recall only having two drinks prior to playing at the pong table and the cups used for that game were small shots of assorted alcohol. None of the alcohol I consumed should have caused me to feel this ill.
I try to pull myself up from the bed but feel like there is a large weight holding me down. Slowly opening my eyes I’m greeted with the sight of a room I’m unfamiliar with. The walls are a moss green color with warm tints of would. Dark green plaid curtains keep out most of the light from outside. Glancing around I notice some books and clothes. Men’s clothes. I try to sit up again but quickly get knocked back down. A small chuckle makes me turn my head instantly, only to be greeted by the face of my mate. His eyes are closed but he is wearing a small smile.
“Good morning.” He states sleepily pulling me closer to him.
“Good morning.” I feel nothing but nerves as I have never slept with a male before. “How did I get here?” I ask avoiding his gaze as I take in my surroundings.
Clark stretches slightly easing the hold he had on me allowing me to pull back away from him. However, the moment I move away his eyes snap open and lock onto me. The look on his face looks like a mixture of disappointment and amusement. I start to feel more confused as to how I found myself in this predicament.
“What do you remember of last night?” He asks while his blue eyes assess me.
“I came here with Lily. I remember having two drinks and then engaging in beer pong.” I pause as I try to recall what happened next. I give Clark a pleading look when I realize I can’t remember anything else. He sighs and then sits up. He looks amazing for someone who just woke up.
“I was informed you were at the party, and I decided to come and spend time with you. We both agreed that it would be good for us. However, when I got here everyone was acting strange, including you. Once I found you, well, you were spending time with another male and even tried to hug him. Then you chose to have a disagreement with me. Honestly, it was quite the exciting night.” He says looking at me sternly.
I stare at him wide eyed trying to recall everything you just shared with me. Here is the male I have always had a crush on, and all I can do is flirt with another. I have never felt more stupid.
“I’m so sorry, I don’t remember any of that. Who was I with?”
“Samson Tate.” He says coldly raising an eyebrow.
I let out a huff remembering this as the male who made Lily and Lewis unhappy. “I barley know him.” I mutter sitting up and looking away from him.
“Well, he seems to have an interest in you.” He mumbles getting up from the bed and walking to the bathroom.
“Too bad for him, because I’m not interested.” I state slowly pulling myself towards the edge of the bed. As I’m about to exit the bed Clark comes walking back in with a small smile on his face.
“I’m glad to hear that.” He chuckles as he comes to stand in front of me. He holds out a small glass of water. “This should help re-hydrate you. Unfortunately, we can’t have you take anything for the headache due to you needing a blood test to identify what exactly happened to you last night.”
“What do you think happened?”
“We think that someone slipped a substance in some of the drinks causing many to become heavily intoxicated and disoriented.” He says quietly taking the glass back once I finished. All I can do is nod as I start to worry about who could have done this. I start to wonder if it was Dominic behind this, but in that case he would have had to enter the pack lands again.
“It wasn’t just you. Many were affected.” Clark says suddenly looking at me intently. Clearly my emotions were written on my face and he could see my concern. “Come on, let’s get ready and join the others. Then we will head to the pack hospital to get you examined.” He turns and walks over to a lounge chair sitting down and throwing his head back as if he is tired. I feel a bit guilty thinking that he may be tired because of my behaviors last night.
“I’m sorry.” I whisper softly feeling so embarrassed that I have put myself in this kind of position. Clark’s eyes snap open as he turns his head to meet my gaze. He raises an eyebrow as if confused as to why I’m apologizing.
“I’m sorry for how I acted last night and that you had to spend the night taking care of me. You look so tired.”
He raises his hand stopping me while gently shaking his head no. “It’s my job to take care of you. That’s what mates do. I care for you and at some point you will feel the bond and want to care for me. Also, you are not to blame for last night. While I was surprised to hear that you were at a party I am happy that you are starting to feel more comfortable being back home.” He says with a soft smile. “We are good Emmeline. I promise.”
I nod and return his soft smile. I pull myself from the bed and glance around trying to find my bag. It was at that moment I get the chance to look down and see that I’m covered in nothing more than a large t-shirt. I gasp and quickly try to cover myself as Clark looks up at me confused. That confusion quickly disappears and is replaced with amusement.
“You were soaked from your fall in the lake. I couldn’t leave you shivering all night long.” He chuckles a bit before biting his lip.
“Why didn’t you just get my bag?” I ask horrified that I slept like this next to my mate last night. Thank goddess I wore decent undergarments.
Letting out another chuckle Clark shrugs and stands from the chair. “I didn’t know you had a bag. I shall go fetch it.”
I watch as he walks out of the room feeling extremely flustered. I dash into the bathroom and take in my appearance. I groan as my hair is all disheveled. The only thing that makes me smile is looking at myself wrapped in my mates t-shirt. I hate to admit that I don’t really want to give it back. I quickly jump into the shower hoping to wash away the stench of the alcohol. Stepping out wrapped in a towel I find my bag set right outside the bathroom with no sight of my mate.
I find myself feeling grateful for having kind mate. Pulling on a gray razorback tank and dark jean shorts I find myself tending to my damp hair. With no hair dryer in sight I decide that a braid is my best option.
Making my way downstairs I can hear the others chatting from the kitchen. I hold back my surprise to see my brother and the gamma here as well. I shudder when I spot Lewis hunched over and looking very ill. Lily doesn’t look much better.
“You need to re-hydrate. Both of you!” Elena says pushing two water bottles towards Lewis and Lily who just groan.
“They are going to need to see the doctor for sure.” Parker says shaking his head. “I’m never going to let him live this down. Having to spend the entire night listening to him vomit and dry heave was not what I had in mind when I said I wanted to enjoy the party.”
“Shut up.” Lewis groans placing his head on the counter.
“How is my sister doing?” Matt asks placing toast on the counter in front of the sick twins.
“She is doing better then these two. So far just a headache, so I’m guessing she didn’t have as much to drink.” Clark says while trying to prompt Lily to take a bite of toast.
She smacks it away and scowls at him. “You stole my friend last night. I’m disappointed in you.”
Clark laughs while looking at his little sister pouting. “You were in no condition for guests.”
“What kind of guest was she to you?” She asks glaring at her brother. “You didn’t did you?”
I quickly rush into the room horrified at what she was insinuating. “Of course, he didn’t.”
“Well, good morning wild child.” Matt says pulling me into a hug. “You know mom and dad are not going to be happy about this.”
“Matt! Leave the poor girl alone. She is not at fault for being drugged.” Elena says making Matt grumble.
“Thank you, Elena.”
“Us girls have to stick together with this lot.” She says giving my brother a disproving look which makes me giggle. Turning my attention to Lily, I notice how awful she looks. She has no make-up on and she is holding her head as if it is causing her pain.
“Are you okay?”
“No I’m not okay. I feel like I’m dying and you all keep talking in such a loud manner. It’s rude. I also insist that I get to punish whoever spiked our drinks!” She states before placing her head on the counter. I giggle softly watching my friend whine due to being hung-over.
“Yeah, well we will have to see if mom and dad will want to punish you first.” Clark says rubbing his sisters back. She groans and shrugs him off causing him to laugh.
“How was your night Emmy?’ Matt asks raising an eyebrow and glancing between me and Clark.
I glare at him as I feel the blush fill my cheeks. “It was fine. Nothing happened.” Clark gives me an amused glance but doesn’t say anything.
“Well good, I didn’t want to have to be the one who went up against my best friend or Alpha for taking advantage of my little sister.” He says with a tight smirk and shooting me a wink. My whole face has to be completely red.
“Matthew stop it. Go out and wait in the car.” Elena demands pointing him towards the car. My brother merely pouts as he makes his way out of the pack house. Elena and Parker gather the other two pulling them towards the exit.
I go to follow but Clark grabs my wrist pulling me back. “We will meet you guys there, dad left me a car last night.” Elena nods before walking briskly out of the cabin.
I turn looking at Clark confused at his sudden decision to stop and not join the rest. He just looks at me with a smirk. “Is there really nothing you can remember about last night?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Well, there was something between us last night something I quite enjoyed.” He says with a glint of pride in his blue eyes.
“Oh goddess, what did we do?”
“Calm down, it was nothing bad.” He mutters looking a bit hurt by my reaction. He sighs and runs his hand through his hair. “We kissed last night. We shared a passionate kiss.” He explained letting me know that it was more than just a peck.
“Oh.” I try to wrack my brain trying to remember this moment I shared with my mate, but unfortunately, I come up with nothing. “I’m sorry Clark, I don’t remember.”
He shrugs slightly before a small smile graces his lips. “Maybe I can help you remember.”
He grabs my waist pulling me towards him. I gasp at the sudden feeling of his chest against mine. His hand is at the nape of my neck holding me in place as he leans down towards my lips. As his lips brush against mine all I feel is warmth and a strange tingling sensation coursing through my body. I can’t help myself but throw my arms around his neck pulling myself deeper into the kiss. Clark grunts slightly as I press my lips roughly against his. As I gasp a bit seeking some air, Clark takes the moment as an invitation. He slips his tongue into to my mouth, driving me wild with his sweet taste. After a moment Clark pulls away as I gasp for breath.
“Sorry, but if we don’t stop I won’t be able to control myself from taking advantage of you.” He says giving me a small smile.
I nod as I continue to breathe heavily. He holds his hand out to me. I take it smiling as I feel excited to finally have someone who is made for me and wants to be with me. “Let’s get going.”
With that we head out towards the doctors. Hopefully, we will get some answers as to what happened at the party.
