Chapter 21: Possessive

Clark’s POV               I let out a growl as I walk around the southern border. Rogue activity has been increasing at an increasing rate and the pack to our south was hit hard. Matt and Parker are gathering witness statements while those injured in the attack are taken to their packs infirmary.               “We appreciate the assistance.” Alpha Hyatt says approaching me looking remorseful. “I don’t think our pack can take much more loss.”               I feel my heart constrict for the Alpha Hyatt. His mate and the Luna of the pack passed away about six months ago due to an accident, and the pack was still recovering. Now with the rogue attacks the pack looks defeated and does not look like much of a pack anymore.               “It is our duty to support our allies. Tomorrow I will send some warriors to help protect the pack until you are able stable.” I state holding out my hand to shake his. The old Alpha merely nods with his eyes cast down. After a minute he leaves me to most likely tend to those who were wounded in the attack.               It’s late into the evening and all I want to do is go home and see my mate. I had planned on spending the day to get to know each other better, but then the attack occurred, and I was pulled to attend to this allied pack. My wolf has been on edge since finding her making it difficult to concentrate. I mind-link Parker and Matt to get the car so that we can head home.               “I received a text from Elena letting me know that some pack members are partying at the cabin.” Matt says from the passenger seat as Parker drives. “She says to be careful since they are probably also running around.”               “I know how to drive.” Grumbles Parker sinking further into his seat behind the steering wheel. “Maybe we should swing by, I would enjoy a release after all the tension from this evening.”               “Aren’t we a bit old for that?” Matt laughs looking at Parker who just glares at him.               “Not like that. I want a drink and to socialize with our peers again. Everything just feels so serious, and there is nothing we can do for the moment.”               “Maybe he’s right.” I mutter rubbing my temples trying to ease the tension I was feeling. “I already mind-linked my father and let him know that we needed to send some warriors to help protect the border of the pack. We could use some time to unwind.” Parker sat up a bit and nodded excitedly from the drivers seat.               “Fine. I’m going to let Elena know though. In case she wants to come.” Matt says texting quickly into his phone.               “Clark, how is it going with your mate? I forgot to congratulate you with everything going on.” Parker says looking at me in the rearview mirror.               I smile at the thought of my mate. Everything in me gets warm and I feel the tension in my muscles ease. “I’m thrilled to have her as my mate, but I know we have some hurdles to jump, due to her past experiences. All I want to do is get to know her better, earn her trust, keep her safe.” I stop myself from admitting in front of her brother that I also wanted to love her, but someday they will all know.               “Aw, my best buds are growing up.” Parker chuckled causing Matt to hit him in the chest without even looking away from his phone. “Seriously though I’m happy for you man.” Parker says coughing a bit due to the smack Matt gave him.               “Thanks man.” A smile stretched across my face as I realized the support I had from my friends.               “Sounds like you may be able to get to know you mate more tonight.” Matt says suddenly looking at his phone with his eyebrows furrowed. “Elena says that Lily and Emmy went to the party.”               For some reason the tension I felt earlier comes back. The girl that was barely coming out of her room is now at a party with barely any supervision. Matt growls lowly throwing his phone on the dash and running his hand through his hair.               “Step on it Parker.” He growls glaring out the window.               “What’s wrong with the girls having some fun?” Parker asks while increasing speed.               “My little sister was never great when it came to social stuff, and I’m guessing she has a low tolerance when it comes to alcohol.” Matt grumbles crossing his arms.               The tension within me continues to grow, and I feel a sense of urgency when it comes to finding my mate. As we arrive to the lake house it’s immediately clear that everyone here is overly intoxicated. This means a lot of alcohol has been consumed as we don’t usually get effected as easily as humans. Matt spots Elena who is just arriving. He engulfs her in a hug as she looks around worried.               “I haven’t seen either of them.” She states glancing at me.               We decide to go inside and instantly spot my brother Lewis draped over a chair passed out. I smack him on the head causing him to jump up and take a defensive stance. His eyes scan the room as he sways unsteadily.               “What the hell was that for?” He asks rubbing the back of his head.               “Where are they?” I ask through gritted teeth.               “Last I saw they were at the pong table engaged in a game.” He looks over at the table noticing it empty with no one around it. “Oh shit.” He mumbled.               “Everyone spread out and find them.” I command moving upstairs hoping I would not find either of them in a compromising position. Luckily the rooms were all empty, the hallway on the other hand had a few passed-out wolves who were too drunk to get up off the floor.               ‘We found Lily outside.’ Matt links me. ‘We are right out the back door. She is wasted and a mess.’               I run down the stairs and as I exit the back door I spot my sister hugging Elena with tears streaming down her cheeks. Elena is rubbing my sister’s back trying to console her. Matt looks more pissed off than earlier and I start to worry that something happened to Emmeline.               “What happened?” I ask as I reach them. Lily runs into my arms still sobbing and wreaks of alcohol.               “I hate him.” She says throwing her arms up in the air.               “Who?”               “Samson Tate. He is a complete jerk who has no respect.” She mutters through her tears. “All he does is points out how I am not an Alpha and that we are failing at our roles.”               “He’s just struggling.” I state trying to get her to come to reason, but she just shakes her head. “Is that the reason he is interested in Emmy?”               At that moment all I felt was fear. “Where is she?” I grit out looking around trying to spot my beautiful mate. I knew that she meant everything to me because my wolf was also connected to her. The only problem was she doesn’t have her wolf yet, so she doesn’t feel the bond as strong. I start to worry about her falling for another until she connects fully with her wolf counterpart.               Lily looks at me with guilty eyes. “I don’t know. Everything was going fine, but then it seemed like everything we drank was catching up with us.”               Parker sniffed my sister squinting as he looked over her form. “Do you feel different?”               “I feel drunk.” She stated swaying a bit as she stood before us.               Parker looked at me shaking his head. “I think someone slipped some drugs in the drinks. She smells more than just alcohol.”               Lewis stumbles towards us. He laughs a bit as he almost falls to the ground in front of us. Picking him up I notice that his scent is also off. “s**t. Matt link my father and have them send others to collect all the pack members here that need to go home and sleep this off.”               “I’ll watch these two. Go find her.” Elena says pulling Lewis and Lily into the lake house.               I take off and start to search the surrounding area. At this time my father and some of the warriors have arrived and started collecting the pack members from the party. I was about to inform my father that Emmeline is missing again when I suddenly caught her scent. The sweet scent of vanilla and strawberries. I follow the scent and find her sitting on the dock with Sam standing there watching her.               I release a low growl causing Sam to turn and look at me. “What is going on here?”               Sam quickly raises his hands in defense. “I just followed her here, to make sure she didn’t jump in or anything.”  He seems to be quite coherent as he shoots me a tight smile. “Didn’t want the Alpha’s precious to get hurt or anything.”               I’m storm forward with the intention of beating him until he is bloody, but the moment I get close to him she turns around and looks at me confused. My steps immediately come to a halt as I’m transfixed by her eyes. Her gray beautiful eyes.               Her eyebrows furrow slightly as she looks at me. “Clark, what are you doing here?” I suck in a deep breath as I hear her voice and as I am about to answer her she stands and throws herself towards me giving me a hug.  “I have missed you!” She sings holding onto me tightly. “I hate being alone.”               I’m so stunned that it takes me a minute to recognize that my mate is actually holding me. Sparks run up and down my body as her arms contact my exposed skin. I slowly wrap my arms around her, pulling her closer to my body. Placing my head in the crook of her neck I feel myself calming down as I take in her scent. Unfortunately, there is also the smell of alcohol and whatever substance has everyone a bit disoriented. Sighing, I pull away and smile.               “I missed you too.” I state brushing her hair away from her face.               I hear Sam scoff at us as he stands there awkwardly. “You weren’t really alone. You had me.” He whines like a child crossing his arms.               Emmeline staggers back a bit turning and looking at Sam. She flashes him a bright smile. “Of course, I didn’t forget about you.”               Sam smiles and holds out his arms. “Then how about a hug?”               I’m about to cuss him out when suddenly Emmeline moves towards him. She has to be crazy if she thinks I’m going to allow this. Wrapping my arms around her waist I pull her back into my chest. She stumbles a bit and looks slightly confused.               “Don’t even think about touching what’s mine.” I growl at Sam who just glares at me.               “I don’t see her marked as yours yet.” He sneers, making my blood boil.               As I step towards him wanting to pick him up and throw him into the water Emmeline turns and places her hands on my chest. She looks angry as she looks up at me. I stop and see Sam smirk while watching us.               “Looks like you’re on a short leash.” His sarcasm makes Emmeline turn to also glare at him.               “Leave.” She demands pointing towards the end of the dock.               Sam nods and starts to walk towards the house. “See you around beautiful.”               Before I can respond Emmeline turns her attention back to me. “What is your problem?”               “My problem?” I can’t believe her reaction. “What’s your problem? I wasn’t the one giving my attention to another male.”               She scoffs at my statement crossing her arms. “Well, you might as well blindfold me if I’m not able to look at anyone.”               “I didn’t say that, but you were going to go to his arms.” I yell throwing my hands up in the air out of frustration.               Emmeline flinches at my words takes a small step back. I close my eyes while pinching the bridge of my nose trying to calm my wolf. Taking deep breaths I remind myself that she is under some influence at the moment.               ‘All those not staying here have been rounded up to be returned home.’ My dad links me. ‘Are you staying with the Beta, Gamma and your siblings?’               ‘Yes. I will see you guys tomorrow.’ I link him back letting him know that we all will remain here for the evening.               I take a step towards Emmeline causing her to jump. She takes a step back right off the dock landing in the water. I quickly reach down and pull her back up shivering and soaking wet. I hold back a chuckle as I look at her drenched and scowling at me. She looks like a small wet kitten at this point.               “You are a jerk.” She says stomping towards the other end of the dock. She stumbles a few times as I’m guessing the world around her is moving due to whatever drug she ingested with the alcohol.               “Stop.” I command grabbing her wrist to prevent her from moving further down the dock. She struggles against my hold, but I pull her closer to me trying to calm her down.               “I have every right to do what I please and look at who I please. I’m not going to belong to anyone.”               I growl as she threatens our bond. She continues thrashing around refusing to get close enough to me to allow me to actually help calm her down. Finally, I grow tired of her dramatics and grab her by the waist hoisting her over my shoulder. Not a single care that she is soaking wet. She screams and I can feel her hands hit my back, but at this point it feels like I’m engaged in a girls pillow fight.               Walking into the cabin everyone who chose to stay behind for the evening turns and watches with amusement. All I can do is nod as I walk towards them with a very annoyed and intoxicated mate hanging over my shoulders. I internally chuckle thinking about how I can tell my future pups that this is how I won over their mother.               “Emmy!” Lily slurs standing to move towards us. “What happened?”               “Not now Lily. My mate and I need tonight to bond and apparently cool off.” I state walking by them towards the stairs. I spot Lewis slumped over a bucket on the floor with Elena and Parker tending to him. Tomorrow we will have to find out more about what happened and how pack members were drugged at a party. I make my way up the stairs carrying my still angry mate.               ‘I hope you have the decency not to mate my sister in these conditions.’ Matt links me as I make it to the top landing where my room is.               ‘Of course not, but I need her right now so I can calm down and not hunt down Sam Tate.’               ‘What did he do now?’ Matt asks sounding concerned for his sister.               ‘Nothing yet, but we will discuss his insolence tomorrow.’               I cut off the link the moment I come to my room. Hopefully my mate will calm down enough that we both can get some rest and I can keep her safe from doing something stupid while under the influence. Of course the moment I set her down the look on her face tells me I’m in for a long night.
