Chapter 20: A Night Out

2515 Words
Emmeline’s POV               After hours of being Lily’s muse I now find myself sitting in the passenger seat of my best friend’s car staring at the lake house. The last time I saw this place I was sitting on the dock getting to know Clark for the first time. I get a little giddy as I replay that night in my head.               “Ready?” Lily asks before putting on some lip gloss.               “As ready as I’ll ever be.” I mutter not hiding my hesitation with this idea at all.               Lily grabs onto my arm and gives me her best serious look. “Emmy, I promise you that this will be safe. I wouldn’t bring you here if it wasn’t.” I let out a deep breath and nod. I know my best friend wouldn’t put me in situation where I could get harmed intentionally. The mall was a freak incident that no one could predict or prepare for.               As I exit the vehicle, I notice that not much has changed when it comes to our packs little party house. I watch Lily walk ahead of me looking confident with each step she takes. I glance down at my attire and sigh, maybe I’m trying a bit too hard to pull off a relaxed look. Lily put me in a white tank with a red, gray and blue plaid button up shirt over it. I don’t know where she got this shirt, but it’s huge. To make up for the size she ties it up in the front leaving a sneak peak of my white tank. It’s a cool night so I chose to wear a pair of dark washed skinny jeans and black strappy sandals. Lily made sure my toenails were painted a deep red to match the color in my shirt. I begged her to keep things simple so she agreed to pull my wavy hair up into a high ponytail, and allowed me to pick out some simple white gold star shaped earrings. To me this outfit felt relaxed and simple but compared to everyone else it looks like Lily and I are the ones who actually cared about our appearance tonight. Of course, the surprise of the night was finding out that we were staying the night. Lily informed me that I would be staying with her in her room. So I was also surprised with her packing sleepwear and my outfit for tomorrow as well.               There was a decent sized group here tonight. Most of them don’t seem to notice our arrival. I notice that the cabin is filled with food and drinks with loud music blasting. Lily pulls me up a flight of stairs to her room at the end of a hall. We drop off our bags before heading down and joining the rest of the crowd.               “Trouble has clearly arrived.” A voice calls out from the kitchen making Lily and I giggle.               Lewis comes walking out with his arms open with a huge grin on his face. I’m shocked at how much he has changed in the last year. He has grown taller and has developed quite the manly physique. He pulls Lily into a deep hug and then goes to try and ruffle her hair, but she has other plans and punches him in the gut before pulling out of his grasp.               “I’m not stupid jerk.” She says patting down her clothing and scowling at her brother.               “No you are not, but I do think you would look way better if you let me be your personal stylist.” Lewis says shooting her is charming smile. “Luna!” He yells turning his attention to me. He bows slightly making me feel horrified by all the attention he is calling.               “Stop Lewis! You know my name, please just use that.” I beg in harsh whisper causing both him and Lily to chuckle.               “Fine, but I think that title suits you.” He says holding his arms open. I greet him with a hug and smile at how at ease he makes me feel.               “I’ve miss you, Lewis. How have you been?”               “Aw, it’s nice to know someone enjoys my company around here.” He sneers glaring at Lily who merely rolls her eyes. “I’ve been great. I’m taking over as head warrior in the next couple months which is exciting. Hopefully, I will be able to find my mate traveling with the Alpha to other packs, because clearly the moon goddess has decided to make finding her difficult.”               “How do you know it’s a her.” Lily mumbles making me choke on a drink Lewis handed me.               Lewis glares at his sister before a slow smirk forms across his face. “Your just bitter because you also haven’t found your mate. It’s not a competition you know.”               Lily huffs and struts out of the cabin towards the lake. As she exits I notice that there is another bonfire on the beach and that other pack members were already out there conversing amongst each other. Lewis chuckles as he watches his sister join other pack members by the bonfire.               “For real, she has been freaking out about finding her mate for the last two months. It’s sickening.” He mumbles before taking a drink.               “That’s Lily. She just wants true love.”               “I guess, but she better find him soon. Otherwise, she is going to turn into the wicked witch from all the fairytales.” Lewis grumbles before turning his gaze fully towards me. “I’m surprised to see my new little sister out here with us. I didn’t think you would want to come out of your tower just yet.”               “Don’t be stupid Lewis, I could never stay away from you for too long.”               Lewis grins like a little kid. “Aw, so you do love me.” I punch him in the chest making him laugh at me. “Sorry, you just make it so easy.” He chuckles. “For real though, I’m happy you’re here. We all really missed you.”               “Thanks Lewis, that means a lot.”               “I’m also happy that you found your mate. Clark better not screw up.” Lewis says nodding as if he is talking to someone specifically.               “I’m sure it will be fine. I appreciate you looking out for me though. I will always consider you another brother.”               “Aw, you just know how to make someone feel happy.” Lewis says holding me in a tight hug and while swaying back and forth slightly.               I giggle watching this tough man struggle to stay upright. “Just how drunk are you?”               “I’m off the clock Luna. Tonight, is my night to let loose. Come lets go see everyone else.”               Outside I am greeted by many pack members. Some of them I recall from school, while others joined our pack following my disappearance. The best part of catching up with everyone was seeing my friend Addie finally in love with someone who felt the same way as her. Chad was a new resident working under Dr. Peters at our pack hospital. They met at a Christmas party held at his home pack where Addie was visiting some relatives.               It was nice to see my friends happy and thriving. I also was happy to get to know some of our pack’s newer members. Everyone was so nice and interested in learning more about me. The night continues late into the evening with us all drinking, dancing and conversing. It feels like we are just one big family. After some time I notice that I’m sitting here with a slight buzz and the rest of my friends are no help as they are completely wasted. I’m about to call it a night when suddenly a young male comes walking up. He is good looking sure, but he is nowhere near as hot as Clark.               “You’re the new Luna?” He asks looking me up and down.               “Um, I think so.” I state raising an eyebrow and looking towards my friends who just chuckle at my response.               “Well, if you are then our pack has one hot Luna.” He states throwing me a wide smile. I instantly start to blush and look down trying to hide it. “My name is Sam.” He holds out his hand to formally introduce himself.               “Hi Sam, I’m Emmy.”               “So, the Alpha felt comfortable allowing you to come out and play?” He asks taking a seat next to me. A bit to close for my liking.               “He will be fine with me hanging out with my friends.”               “Ah, he doesn’t know.” Sam states giving me a mischievous grin. “So, I was told you were a pack member here before I joined. How did you and the young Alpha does not know you guys were mates?”               I stare at him shocked that he would be willing to ask such questions after just meeting someone. “Well, the last time we hung out he wasn’t 18 years old yet. So, I guess one of us needed to get our wolf first to know we are mates.” I explain feeling a little confused as to why he is asking me this.               “So you don’t have your wolf yet?”               “No, not for a few more months.” I state looking to Lily who has just picked up on what we are talking about.               “So, how do you know for sure your mates?”               “Because only one is needed to figure that out.” Lily says coming to my defense. “Her wolf is still hibernating within her, but his wolf will be drawn to the one who holds his other half. So, there is no denying that they are mates.”               “I’m just shocked that all this time they didn’t know.” Sam says giving a small shrug. “I guess with your looks I would have been pulled towards you regardless of my wolf. I would have assumed the Alpha felt the same.”               “Those statements towards our Luna could get you into trouble.” Lewis states coming over and standing behind me with a drink still in his hand. “I would assume your grandparents who had status would have taught you that.”                A low growl emits from Sam as he glares at Lewis. “I apology Luna, I just hope our Alpha realizes the treasure he has stumbled on.” He stands and walks away joining another group who is standing near the cabin.               “What was that about?” I ask looking between Lewis and Lily. Lewis rolls his eyes and takes a drink. “I need to cool off.” He says walking towards the cabin.               Lily looks at me uncomfortably. “Sam’s grandparents were the past Luna and Alpha of Redstone Pack. His father was next in line for the position, but instead his grandparents gave the position to his younger brother due to a disagreement regarding mates. Sam’s father left his mom and chose another for his mate. It was a pretty big spectacle.” She explains while playing with her fingers. “I guess you could say that he has difficulty with authority since then.”               “Well, he does have Alpha blood so it’s natural for him to have difficulty submitting.”               “I guess, but honestly I think he is just a jerk.” Lily says flipping her long hair behind her.               “Hey Lily, we’re starting the pong table, you coming?” Some male calls out from the cabin doorway.               “Yeah, just a minute!” Lily yells back before looking at me with a wide smile. “Come with, I promise you will love it.”               The game Lily had me engage in was something I sucked at. I was put in a position where I was now drinking way more than I originally planned. All because I was a lousy shot. Lily was placed on the opposite team and was sinking every throw with a squeal of delight. The only decent player on my team was Sam.               “Take that brat.” Sam announces sinking a shot, which meant Lily would have to drink. She glared at him before downing the cup.               “Brat?” She asks looking at him with something along the lines of amusement or annoyance.               “Well, I don’t know what your official title is, so it seemed fitting.” Sam says with a tight smile and shrugging his shoulders. Lily looks like she wants to lunge at him here and now, but instead gives him a tight smile. She throws the ball again landing a shot. I would be happy for her if it wasn’t my turn to take a drink. Sam grabs the cup from the table and hands it to me.               “Drink up partner.” He says looking extremely happy for someone who is losing a game. I cringe as tequila runs down my throat. I hate just strait tequila.               “Oh goddess I wish you could see how funny you look when you drink.” Sam laughs taking the cup from me.               “What do you mean?”               “It looks like someone is causing you pain or you smell something disgusting.” He continues to chuckle as he hands me a ball. “You turn by the way.”               I shudder a bit under his intense gaze as I take the ball. His hands graze mine, but it doesn’t make me feel anything but cold. I throw the ball and effectively sink my first shot.               “Yes!” I scream and laugh while jumping up and down like a small child. Everyone around the table also joins in laughing at my enthusiasm.               “Nice job.” Sam says patting my shoulder and standing close to my side.               “Thanks.” I state taking a step back and turning to look at him.               However, the moment I look at him I start to feel funny. It’s not a bad feeling, but something is off. The room appears to be moving and everything looks disoriented. My smile faulters a bit as Sam looks at me with amusement.               “Everything okay?” He asks with a sheepish smile.               “Yeah, just got dizzy that’s all.” I state grabbing the table for some support.               “Good, I was hoping not to lose my best partner.”               All I can do it smile back. I have never been good at much, and it was nice having others interested in being my friends. I picked up the ball and handed it to him with excitement.               “Good. Then lets play again.”               Little did I know that this would be my last coherent moment of the evening.
