They both ducked and backed up. Nick pressed his back up against the wall while Jax snuck around the back of the house. One minute it was all quiet and the next all hell broke loose.
A massive leopard came charging at Jax chasing him as he ran and yelled, “holy f***k!”
Even in danger and the nutter still managed to turn it into a humorous event. He ran and rolled just in time as she launched in to the air to pounce on him.
It was pretty cool to watch, he rolled and when he was on his back he lifted the gun and fired it into her stomach while she was midair. She dropped to the floor, not dead but weak and badly injured. Jax kicked her away from him. “You f.ucking crazy b.itch!”
She went to bite his leg with those powerful jaws, and he shot her in the head, killing her instantly. Meanwhile, Nick was firing shots into the house and ducking when Joel fired his own shots back.
One shot hit Nick, but he only grunted. I didn’t feel anything through the bond, so it must only be when he’s close to dying that I feel it.
While Jax went back to help Nick, I shifted to my wolf form. I quietly made my way over to them and snuck around the back of the house before anyone saw me.
The back door was open, so I quietly padded inside. I was in the kitchen and saw Joel in the living room area, hiding behind his own makeshift cover from Nicks bullets.
I crept closer and was almost on him when he looked towards me. I dived on him, biting and snapping my jaws, but he really was powerful, and he managed to keep me off him. He threw me across the room and I landed in a heap.
I didn’t have time to get up before he was on me, pinning me down to the floor by my neck. “There you are, my little omega, finally I get to f***k that p.ussy.” He started undoing his belt, but me distracting him meant both Jax and Nick were able to get inside.
Nick punched him using his werewolf strength and sent him crashing to the floor. “Don’t f.ucking touch her, you disgusting c.unt!”
He kicked Joel while Jax came and checked on me. “You ok darling?” He stroked my fur and I licked his hand as a way of saying yes.
He kissed my head and went to help Nick.
Joel grabbed Nicks foot and pulled him to the floor. They were fighting while Joel was yelling vile racial slurs about me, which made Jax lose control.
He grabbed the hunter’s knife from Nicks holster and with zero hesitation, he shoved it in Joel’s neck, making blood spurt everywhere.
Nick got covered in the blood along with Jax and we both stared at Jax. Looking at us, he shrugged, “what? No one f.ucking talks about Rose like that.”
Jax scared most people, even his brothers at times, but Nick didn’t look fazed, and he let Jax help him to his feet. I left them to deal with the body and shifted back to human form.
I pulled my clothes on and was shaking a little from what had almost happened. Joel would have really forced himself on me while I was in wolf form and him human. I hugged myself and slowly made my way back to the other two.
While they were cleaning up, I asked, “were you two in the armed forces or something? You seemed like you knew what you were doing.”
They both said, “yes,” in unison.
They looked at one another and Jax asked, “what you serve as?”
“Lieutenant, you?”
“Corporal”
I felt the hatred between them lessen and a mutual respect form. Jax noticed me holding myself and came over. “Hey darling, come here.” He pulled me in to his arms and held me tightly.
I snuggled in to him, breathing in his scent, and it calmed me. I loved my Jax so much, and he always made me feel like the safest girl in the world In his arms.
“What the f***k are we gonna do with his body?” Nick asked.
He looked cold and unbothered, but he must have been feeling some sort of grief, right? At the end of the day, Joel had still been his brother. Jax still holding me, said, “I’ll clean everything up, just take care of Rose.”
Nick nodded and when Jax met his eyes’ alpha to alpha, Nick muttered, “she’ll be fine, if she dies I die right? And I don’t want to die just yet.”
Jax let me go and Nick brushed past me, saying, “come on.”
“Wait at the car for me, I don’t want Rose seeing anything I do,” Jax called out.
We walked in silence because Nick was certainly not a talkative guy. When we reached the car, he leaned back against it with folded arms.
The image of him on top of me, letting me grind against him earlier, entered my head and I grew flustered and shy.
When he looked at me my cheeks heated, I tried to act like everything was normal and calm, but my clumsy self had me tripping over nothing basically, and he didn’t try to help me, he watched me fall with a cold expression on his face.
“Are you always this clumsy?” He asked.
I jumped back up, even more flustered and said, “pretty much.”
He frowned at me and then reached out and pulled out the leaf that was still in my hair. It was barely even contact, but it stirred the bond between us and I found myself moving closer to him.
I don’t know if I would have tried to hug him, probably, but he put his hand against my chest, stopping me from moving further.
“Control yourself better, Rose.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know how, it’s not fair that it seems to be affecting me more than you.”
“It does affect me, I just don’t allow it to control me.”
“How?”
“Not without great difficulty, being an alpha wolf helps.”
“Great, I couldn’t be less alpha if I tried.”
He laughed, which I wasn’t expecting, a gorgeous boyish laugh.
“I’m sorry about your brother,” I said.
He snorted at that. “I’m not.”
“But he was your brother, you must feel something?”
“I don’t, he was a piece of s.hit, and I’m not exactly in tune with my feelings anyway.”
“Oh, right, sociopath.”
“Yep.”
Jax joined us after a while, and we made the long journey back home.
