Mate

Ruth's P.O.V

"Sis! My legs are so tired. Let's just go back home." my little brother whined from behind.

"You go back,Asher! I'm not going back. Never!" I said without looking at him as I kept on marching forward.

Back at home, my father and I had a huge argument. He wasn't willing to consider my opinions neither was I willing to consider his, both stubborn. So, I just decided to run away. I'd never live in a place where no one would consider and respect my choice. Why would I even agree with him? He wanted me to marry with someone who wasn't my mate. Like hell I'd do that! I'll find my mate on my own. He can screw himself. I don't want his inheritance or whatsoever. I'm better off alone, free to live my life as I want. No one can force me into anything.

"Sis.... Would you slow down a little bit? Your little brother is dying here." he said in his annoying voice. This little brat! Why did he even follow me? If it weren't for him slowing me down, I'd have already reached the Blood Moon Pack territory.

"Shut your damn mouth and keep walking. I'm already walking too slow because of you. And if you don't stop whining like a baby, I swear I'll tie you to a tree and leave you behind" I was already feeling angry and his whining just added fuel in it. Such a pain!

"So grumpy..." I heard his pouty voice.

Enraged by my circumstances, I wanted to beat someone up so badly that I felt my whole body trembling in rage. I had to let it out. Or else, I didn't even know what I would do.

I walked grumpily crushing the dried leaves and branches under my feet as we made our made towards the border of the Blood Moon Pack. Suddenly, my ears caught some noises. I was instantly on my guard as I pulled Asher behind me. Hiding behind some large bushes, I peeked through the small opening.

"Sis, let's just get out of here. Don't meddle with them" Asher whispered.

But I was already smiling like a maniac. Good! I can beat them up. I cracked my knuckles and got out of the hiding spot smiling like crazy.

"Sis, why are you exposing yourself. Get back here or we'll be in trouble" Asher whisper- yelled at me. But that was the least of my worries. All I wanted was to break some bones and draw some blood. They didn't seem like good people either judging by the way they spoke.

"Hey girl..... How'd you get here?" one of them asked in anger.

I just smirked and moved closer to them. They kept on shouting at me but I turned deaf ears to them. Not caring a word they said, I came to stand right in front of them staring right at them. One of them was bold enough to try to grab my hair but was soon kick to the ground follwed by his painful grunts. I could see Asher moving around frantically in panic but that didn't bother me at all. I was having so much fun that I couldn't stop smiling. I must look like a lunatic escaped from the lunatic asylum but I didn't care. Especially when I was so close to quenching my fury. I must admit that it wasn't easy to defeat them considering their number but it was a piece of cake with my spells that knocked them unconscious in a matter of minutes.

When I was done with all of those stinky losers, I crouched down to examine the boy whom they seemed to have captured. He was slowly gaining his consciousness. I grabbed his hand to check his pulse but as soon as our skin made contact, I felt an electric shock run through my whole body. That's when my wolf surfaced.

"Mate" a sound rumbled through my chest.

He must have felt it too because when he opened his eyes, his wolf was staring right at me.

"Mate" he whispered the same word.

But it didn't take long for his wolf to disappear as the once yellow eyes staring at me slowly faded back to the silver-grey ones. They were mesmerizing. But for some reason, I didn't feel much attracted to him as I was supposed to. His scent also wasn't very intoxicating. Could it be because I'm a half witch and half wolf? Or were people simply making things up?

The boy looked up at me with a blank expression. He got up from the ground and dusted off his clothes. We were almost of the same height. It appeared that I was slightly taller. Perhaps that was because I was wearing high heels. He had long side swept bangs that touched his cheekbones. He looked somewhat girly given his soft skin and slim body. His lips were pressed together in a firm line as he watched me closely. He looked cute. Did he feel what I felt too?

Contrary to my expectation, he turned around and ran as if his life depended on it. My jaw dropped. What the f**k!

Did my mate just run away from me? Shouldn't he be the one chasing after me? I was so confused and pissed that I was ready to run after him right away but stopped when I felt my brother patting my shoulder. He shook his head, sighing in sympathy.

"Did you see that? Your mate just ran away. Let's just head home. I promise father will be so happy to see us home" he smiled.

But the mention of my mate running away plus my father was enough to piss me off. I punched him and sent him flying to the ground.

"It's the last time I'm warning you. Don't ever mention about going home to me" I said through gritted teeth.

He got up from the ground and dusted off his clothes. "That hurt sis! Can't you be gentler?"

"I punched you so that it hurts your damn skin" I said and followed the traces of my mates scent. Asher came following behind mumbling about me being careless again.

After walking quite a distance we came to find a three storey building. His scent was the strongest there so he must be in there. Found you mate! A smile played on my lips as I made my way to the building.

Neeko's P.O.V

I must admit that I was surprised. I was so shocked when I heard the word mate escape my own lips as soon as I gained consciousness. It took all my power to hold back Rex and regain control of my body again. The girl in front of me was totally checking me out. I had to wreck my brain to find solution to face the situation but in the end, the only rational thing I could think of was to run. And I did exactly that. She didn't expect that, I guess. But I'd no time to waste since I was at great risk of being exposed.

As soon as I was at the border and into the house, I dialed my brother's number. He picked up in two rings.

"Nathan, I need you to come to me immediately" I said as soon as he picked up,not even letting him greet me. I was also breathing heavily due to the escape I just made.

"Hey hey hey! Just calm down. Tell me what happened." he sounded a little drunk but his voice was laced with concern as he asked me. There wer sounds of females and music in the background.

"I found your mate" I informed. "And she's after me"

He was silent for a while. I almost thought that he was gone but then his voice was heard again.

"I can't come" he said.

I was disappointed by his reply. I wanted him to come and take care of his mate.

"If I do, we'll be at greater risk of being exposed." he reasoned making me sigh in exhaustion of all the drama.

"Don't worry! I'll find a way to save you" I heard him chuckle. "But for now. You have to endure it. Take care of her for me, OK?"

"OK" I sighed.

There was nothing I could do anyway. I put my phone away and mindlinked the guards to go to the spot where we were ambushed. They worked faster than I expected. They reported me in a few minutes.

"Beta, we checked the area. No one was seriously injured from our pack. We've also captured the culprits. What do you want us to do with them?" the guard asked.

"I don't care what method you use, just don't cut off their limbs or kill them. Find out who they were working for and every possible details. I expect no less from you" my Beta voice came out naturally as I gave him a stern look.

"Yes Beta!" he bowed.

There was a knock on the door and the chief guard, Reuben staggered into the room.

"Beta, I want to do it for you" he said.

"No!" I denied. "You just focus on your recovery for now. You won't be left out, I promise"

He nodded, assured. "Yes Beta"

There was another knock on the door and a guard came in.

"Beta someone is trying to force i......." before he could finish, a red head barged into my office followed by a boy.
