A Snake in the Dark

He couldn’t breathe. His chest rose and fell like a caged beast as he stormed down the driveway, the night air clawing at his lungs. Rage wasn’t enough to describe it—this was humiliation, betrayal, a wound he couldn’t stitch back together. His father had stolen her. His father. That truth slithered through his veins like poison, fueling a fire no water could quench. He yanked his phone from his pocket and scrolled furiously, his hands trembling. He needed an ally, someone who understood his thirst for destruction. And then he saw her name—Clara, the “cousin,” the girl who had played her role so perfectly before. A sly smirk twisted his lips. “Time to finish what we started,” he muttered before pressing call. She answered with a purr. “Miss me already?” “No,” he snapped, though his tone softened almost instantly. “But I’ve got a game for us. And you’re going to like it.” Clara laughed, low and wicked. “A game? You sound dangerous, love.” “Oh, I am,” he hissed. “Listen carefully—I don’t care what it takes. I’m going to break her. I’ll rip her out of his arms, out of his life, until she comes crawling back to me. And you’ll help me do it.” There was a pause on the line, and then her voice turned sharp with curiosity. “And what do I get?” “You get what you always wanted,” he said coldly. “Me. All of me. No more secrets. But first…” His eyes darkened as he stared back at the glowing windows of the mansion. “…we make her regret choosing him.” The call ended, but the seed had been planted. The snake was awake now, slithering in the dark. And soon, venom would spill.
