THE ALPHA.

Lake looked so tired from his trips. But seeing the little omega in front of him brightened his day. “I missed you so much,” she cried. “Why do you always leave me alone?” “Aurora,” he murmured, his hand sliding into her hair. Mrs. Jane stamped forward. “My lord, I did nothing. She’s been sitting out here for five hours, refusing to come inside until she sees you.” Lake chuckled softly. “I see.” He looked down at Aurora with concern, touching her shoulder and brushing her hair back. “You really gave Mrs. Jane a hard time, didn’t you, baby?” Aurora only cried harder. “Did anything happen while I was away?” he asked gently. “Why are you crying, love?” She smelled his familiar scent. Comforting, intoxicating, and shook her head, unable to find words. All that mattered was that he was here. She wished she could disappear into his scent and stay there forever. Lake bent down in front of her after he pulled her away from him a little, eyes warm and searching. “Did anyone hurt you while I was away, baby?” Aurora shook her head and wiped her tears away. Lake crouched properly in front of her, smiling softly as he brushed his thumb against her right cheek. “If you don’t tell me what’s wrong, Aurora, how am I supposed to help you?” “You promised you’d be back in two days,” she complained in a shaky voice. “But you came back after a week.” Her lips trembled. “You’re always away, leaving me alone in that huge duplex. I’m not a grownup, but…” She sniffed. “How do you expect me to live there all by myself?” “I’m sorry, my love,” he whispered. “The photoshoot and meetings took longer than expected.” “Whatever,” Aurora muttered, wiping her tears stubbornly. He was always giving excuses. Lake tilted his head, cupping her small face. “What is it, Aurora?” He realized she hadn’t stopped complaining yet. She was so cute. He thought. “Nothing is wrong,” she pouted. “It doesn’t look that way, baby,” he chuckled. “Leave me alone, Lake!” she snapped. “You’re always gone. I’m stuck with nannies and bodyguards, and it gets lonely. I see you on TV, and that’s not fair.” She wiped her nose angrily, tears still slipping down her cheeks. Lake laughed softly. “Is that really why you’re crying?” “That’s not funny,” she huffed. “Love, I came all the way from Germany just for you.” She crossed her tiny arms over her chest, clearly unconvinced. “Come on,” he said, pulling her into a hug and kissing her cheek. “I’m sorry for being away so long, okay?” “Don’t go away again,” she whined. “You know I have to work,” he replied gently. “But I promise I’ll always come back as soon as I can, unless fate changes my plans.” Aurora refused to look at him. Then she heard him speak again. “I got you something.” Her eyes widened instantly. All anger vanished as she spotted the pile of wrapped boxes behind him. She ran past him without another word and began tearing into the gifts. Lake laughed as she squealed in excitement. Her breath caught when she saw it, her favorite Barbie doll. “You got this for me, Lake!” she cried, throwing her arms around him. “I knew you’d love it,” he said warmly. “Thank you so much, Dad.” “The pleasure is all mine, sweetheart.” He ruffled her hair before lifting her easily into his arms. “Let’s go inside and see the rest.” “Yay!” Aurora laughed, clinging to him. “Happy birthday, Aurora Vargynja,” he whispered. Her eyes filled with happy tears as she hugged him tighter. “You didn’t forget?” she whispered. “Never,” he chuckled. "I've never forgotten your birthdays. Why start now?" Aurora cried then, from overwhelming joy. He was home. He remembered her birthday. She loved him. Aurora Vargynja was eight years old, a young Beta of the Vargynja Pack. Her uncle was the Alpha, the most powerful wolf in the territory. Feared, respected and admired. And to Aurora, he was everything. He ruled with confidence and strength, yet treated her with kindness and care, loving her as if she were his own child. Growing up under his protection was both a privilege and a burden. Enemies surrounded them constantly, wolves who longed for his downfall and would hurt her to reach him. Bodyguards followed her everywhere. Poison inspection of the food took place. Night patrols circled the estate relentlessly. This was their life. Still, growing up with Lake had been the happiest time of her life. He taught her the laws of the pack, how to stand tall, how to be kind without being weak. He taught her never to abuse her power. As the first She-Beta from an Alpha family in the Vargynja clan, Aurora learned responsibility early. Her uncle was wealthy beyond imagination, owned companies across the world, and was even a famous actor, yet he always made time for her. That was what mattered most. When she turned six, he began keeping her hidden from the public eye for her safety. Whenever he was away, it hurt deeply, but he never missed important moments. Birthdays. Graduations. Milestones. He was always there. Aurora knew he had adopted her after her parents died in a car accident, though she had never seen their faces. When she once asked to see their pictures, Lake told her gently that the time would come. She trusted him. And so, she did everything she could to make him proud. Aurora graduated from middle school and earned admission into high school the moment she passed her exams. At sixteen, she ranked among the top students in her year. Exceptionally intelligent, disciplined, and consistently brilliant. Every report card bore an A+, and her name appeared repeatedly on honor boards. She won countless academic awards and competitions, becoming one of the most successful students her school had ever produced. People admired her for it. Some people even consider her perfect, as if she never erred. Teachers praised her discipline, students admired her confidence, and the school administration treated her as a model student. Aurora had long white hair, with black hidden beneath it, something she often tied into a ponytail or left flowing freely. Within the Vargynja Pack, black hair was common, but white or blonde hair marked those born into leadership. It was a visible reminder of power, lineage, and authority. Her striking blue eyes stood out against her pale skin. Her sharp features and refinement. She carried herself with quiet confidence, tall and graceful, her presence impossible to ignore. Despite being a beta, Aurora was the center of attention at school. The people respected, admired, and quietly feared her. Her popularity did not come without a price. She lived under constant scrutiny. Every move watched, every word measured. Wherever she went, envy followed. The strongest among the female Alphas and Betas, those who resented the attention she drew so effortlessly, and the presence she carried without ever trying.
