“Waffles and bacon tomorrow for breakfast?” I holler as I peer into my refrigerator. “Otherwise one of us is going to have to go to the store tonight, because I only have two eggs left.” “I’m fine with whatever,” Mari answers from the living room. I grab two bottles of beer and an opener and try to balance it with the bowl of popcorn tucked in my arm before heading back to the sofa. Mari stands up as soon as she sees me coming and levels a gaze at me that would make my mother proud. “I could have helped,” she complains. “You don’t have to keep treating me like I’m a guest.” I just grin and lean forward to give her a peck on the lips while I try to gracefully hand off the popcorn bowl and a beer. Mari has been staying at my house for the past week while the floors are getting varnished
