Thirty-Nine
Simon Flaherty sat with his lawyer, opposite DI Reid and DS Strong, in an interview room that was long overdue for a fresh coat of paint. DS Strong turned on the video recorder and stepped them through the required introductions.
‘Mr Flaherty, I take it you’re aware that Ron Zeitz had cleared out your firm’s accounts on the day he was killed?’ said DI Reid.
‘I’m aware the accounts were cleared out, Inspector, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Ron.’
‘Why’s that?’
‘I assume you’ve examined the accounts.’
DI Reid pulled several sheets of paper from his folder and placed them on the table in front of Simon Flaherty, who examined them closely until he found what he was looking for.
‘See the time and date of that transaction, Inspector?’ Simon pointed to the transaction he wanted
