Ten Ron Zeitz preferred to sleep until at least nine in the morning, so whoever was ringing him at this ungodly hour had better have a good reason, he thought, as he retrieved his vibrating iPhone from the antique dresser beside his bed. He looked at the display. The caller was Paolo. Then he remembered that Paolo was meeting John Cameron at eight. Ron glanced at the other side of the bed before answering. There was no sign of Susie, who went to bed hours before he did, apart from a discarded tee-shirt.
