Garrett, who was still in shock at Sherlock's amazing rejection of him, took him by surprise as he led the way down from the car to his house.
“I still wondered if the stranger was still angry as a result of the event.. Did the incident that coincidentally happened to them trigger her to ignore him?“, he wondered.
“Perhaps she is still upset. I still have to apologize though,” he added.
It was 8pm at night. As he had tried delivering toys, he promised to all the kindergartens. God bless his heart for his charity.
When he noticed a quiet toll filled his house, his twins were not around because they are at university, so it was only him and his mother alone in his big mansion.
He went off to check for this mother and noticed she was in the kitchen cooking.
“Why did l not perceive the aroma of someone cooking?” His nose sensations had changed, maybe because he is becoming old. He thought.
“Oh! You are back?” Beatrice Harrison startled in surprise, “And I didn't hear the sound of the bell”, she added.
“Maybe because I used my keys to get in.”
“Oh! Alright, welcome sweetheart”
“What is my sweet mum cooking?” Garret asked eagerly, whooping his mouth to taste some foods.
“Because I can't even detect the scent of the delicious boiling or frying of food”
“Dear, I am just boiling water.”
“Ohh, mum!”, He shouted. “You must be kidding, I am so hungry, I have only eaten appetizers since morning.”
“You have to be joking; did you not notice the food I put in the freezer for you to reheat and take to work?"
“You cooked this morning?”
“I got up at five in the morning as usual to cook and do some laundry.”
But, mum, you're too old to be doing the laundry again.
“Who says I am?"
Garrett gave her a sign on his face, wondering how his mum thinks she is still young.
“Forget it, I don't need to argue with you because the more I tell you the facts, the more you will oppose it.”, Garrett said, giving up on her.
“But mum, what are you trying to make for dinner?” he inquired, walking up a stairs while leaving her back.
“Eggs and potatoes mashed.”
“Ohhh, wow my favorite!,” he raced up to embrace his mother, not caring if he missed a single step of the stairs.
Ever since he lost his dad, he has decided to make his favorite type: eggs and potato mashed as remembrance because he eats his favorite food with him when playing video games together.
He is a close friend with his father, and since he was a little boy, he has been closer to his father than his mother. However, when he was diagnosed with leukemia, his emotions changed, and he decided to distance himself from his family. His wife tried to fight his ailments, but he died after several treatments. His mother came to his house after one year of her husband's death. She no longer tore up out of the death of her husband, as she nurtured his children.
“Ah! Mom, did you decide to mash all of these potatoes?”, Garrett asked while seeing a potato falling out from others on the tiled floor.
“Yes, are they small?”
“Yes ooh, Argh Argh.. Mummmmy! Kindly add more to it, I want to eat like a fat man tonight.”, Garrett responded childishly, smiling and exposing his baby face.
“Ohh poor dear, you are not being serious, right?” Helena said as her loud laughter showed out a weird face at her son's request.
“But I am damn serious, Mum.” Garrett smiled as he hurried to spring into his room to take a cool bath, not caring if his mother heard him or not.
Garrett knew his mum would agree to do what he wanted because she loved him and always gave him whatever he wanted. He recalls how, as a little child, he always wanted his mother to accompany him fishing, but she would constantly warn him that if they did, a large shark from the river would jump, and they would get bitten. Since then, he hated to go close to rivers. That imagination had sunk into his reality and he decided to fall into his mum's lie.
Even though he was aware that his mother was lying, the idea of her acting honorably and sincerely made him feel anxious and scared.
As he was about to undress, he noticed a paper in his shirt pocket and decided to check what the paper was for. Then he remembered that it was the flier of the invitation to the graduation party of Queen Fran’s Kindergarten happening tomorrow on Saturday. He was aware that, because he had been invited, it was crucial that, as he had accepted the invitation, he had to go at all costs. Actually, he still had to apologize to the stranger, the little, attractive woman he had a glimpse of at the kindergarten.
“Well, let's see how it will go. I have to apologize. I just have to.”, he said carefully, removing his tie and taking off his shoes.
“Today was finally a great day! Bless God!’, he exclaimed.
