Arghhhhhhhhh! Oh God! What did I do to myself? Sherlock shouted as she prepared to get out of bed. “Why the hell did I sleep this long? I haven't slept this long for over a year. But why today?” Immediately she said today, she sprained up! Frances, remembering that today was her godson's graduation party. She hurried down to check the time on the clock on her lovely wide blue wall in her sitting room, as she cruelly squeezed her face. “Whoa! It's 2 p.m. at noon! The party may have been over!” She lets out a harsh scream from her mouth. “God! What if Frances had been signed for adoption by now? How can l turn him down?” “Oh no, I may not be able to see him in person for real.” She raised the scream. She has forgotten about the punishment she will face for missing work for failing to provide an excuse from her boss for her absence. All she was thinking of was how she missed her wonderful godson's graduation. She dashed into the bathroom to quickly take a warm-up bath. She opened the tap and saw that the water had ceased. “Oh, God, this can't be happening. Not today.” “Ahh, today seems to be a bad day”. She moaned as she considered having to call her plumber to get her plumbing pump fixed. “And that will take time,” she added. “But let us see if it is something that can be fixed quickly.” She went out of the bathroom to check for the phone on her bed. Getting there, she discovered 10 missed calls. She inquired who was calling her and saw it was Teresa. “Teresa, I am so sorry.” As soon as she remembered her colleague, she let out a scream as she remembered her boss. “Oh God l am in trouble! She voiced out. “How will she face Mrs. Helena? What will I tell her?” The weather is not an excuse because she can still use her car to drive because the snow was not too heavy to stop cars from moving. “God! What will l do? She then tried calling Teresa, but no response from her. She tried again but got no answer. "Oh my God! What is this?” She got agitated and concerned. This time she couldn't laugh or cry. She tried again. There was no response. “Ahh God! What is all this?" “Now what could I do?" She was left in the dark. She then made the decision to fix her malfunctioning plumbing pump as she called her plumber. He arrived ten minutes later to repair the minor issues with her water system. “Thank you very much, Mr. Sunday.” “But, what are the costs? “It is 5 dollars, Ma’am Sherlock.” “5 dollars wha....t? Just to fix this? She said painting on the water system “Yes madam,” he replied. “But I thought you said it was a minor issue.” “Yes, of course. I bought some materials to change the bad ones.” “Okay. It is fine.” She exclaimed, checking her account balance and saw it was red, and it was close to her last penny. She made the transaction to Mr. Sunday and saw him leave. Sherlock wouldn't know why the wages she gets does not satisfy her upkeep. She is unable to take advantage of more benefits than Mrs. Helena provides other staff members because she is not one of the head teachers; Teresa and she are the only Queen Frans’s Kindergarten minor level teachers. To get to that level of head teacher, she has to be promoted, and she must be subject to certain conditions. She hopes to win the upcoming promotion events in the upcoming year. By God's grace, she promises herself that she will advance. After saying "Amen" to her wishes, she hurried to take a warm bath so she could decide what to do next. ________________________ “Come in.” Mrs. Helena answered the knock on the door. “Oh Mr. Garrett, I am impressed you answered my call to be here at this moment.” Do l have a choice? Garrett thought. “It is a pleasure, ma’am. How can l help you?” Garrett added. Yes! There is this little child of ours. He is Frances by name. “Oh Frances?” “Do you know him?” “Yes I do, I think you mentioned his name as the only orphan in class 3.” “Yes Yes! Thank goodness you know him.” He will be out for adoption and l have clearly decided if you would like to take him for adopt…. “Yes, I am very interested, "he interrupted Mrs. Helena before she could finish her statement. “Oh, it appears that you had previously planned to do that." “Yes, you just read my mind.” “Good enough! As he has graduated today, his adoption papers are ready, and we would like you to put your signature to Confirm the agreement.” “That is not an issue, ma’am.” “Okay.” Mrs Helena stood up to take the documents out of her drawer. Why had Garrett watched her do so? “She is a good woman though,” he thought. Mrs Helena went back to her seat to hand him the papers as he signed. She flashed out a sweet smile that resembled the smile of his mother. “Thank you so much for agreeing to adopt our son, sir. We hope you give him the appropriate care and love he deserves.” “Trust me, ma’am, I have so much love for children and remember I am a father of twins.” *Wonderful, how are my twins doing?” “Very well. They are doing fairly well at their schools.” “Their names again, Ketty and…?” Mrs. Helena inquired curiously. “Kenny, ma’am,” Garrett replied. “My special regards to them," She said as she grabbed the GSM nearby to make a phone call. “Hello Teresa, kindly call me Francis now!” “She said so groaning, commanding the caller.” Her expression turned to one of meanness, which astonished Garrett. Mrs. Helena made a gesture of clearing her throat to halt Garrett's stare as she noticed how he was staring at her. “Frances will be seeing you shortly, sir. It will not take long,” she said as staining a smile on her face Garett studied her, wondering how she went from frowning to smiling, Seconds passed, they heard a faint knock on the door and Mrs. Helena let them in. “Frances, how are you doing, love?” “Hi, ma.” Frances said. Hi sweetheart. Mrs Helena replied, facing Teresa. “Teresa?” “Yes ma.” Teresa replied. “You can excuse us.” “Okay ma.” She agreed immediately. Mrs Helena watched Teresa leave as she closed the door gently. “Okay! Frances, congratulations to you. Finally, you will start a new life with a new family.” Frances examined the joy of Mrs. Helena's face and glanced up to see how she was feeling. “But ma.. I am am…” He was unable to speak, breaking off his speech. “What happened darling?” “It is nothing, ma’am.” He lied. “Are you sure?” “Yes ma,” he replied, trying to think of a perfect way to express his desire for Sherlock to become her family, even though he knew she would be angry if he opened up to her. “So, Frances, kindly meet your new dad.” Teresa said, pointing to Garrett seated in front of where he stood. “My new father?” He asked surprisedly, looking at Garrett in an awkward manner. “Frances, you are good-looking. How are you?” Garrett asked Frances as he came forward to him. Frances stylishly removed his hand and drew back from him. “Hmm, dear, don't be afraid of me, I am so friendly as I promise to give you the best life you want.” “Do you know what?” he continued. What? Frances inquired. “You will have many opportunities to play with many types of toys and more, since I am the manufacturer of lovely toys and I donate many of them here.” Frances, hearing the sound of that, jumped up and shouted, “Wow, l love it.” He put on a smile and looked at Garrett, letting him touch his wrist. Mrs. Helena, who was preoccupied with how they were conversing and relating, was impressed, gave Frances a farewell note of advice and a final embrace as she tapped him on his shoulder. She told him to continue t o exhibit good behavior like he was taught in Queen Frans’s Kindergarten. He nodded in agreement to always being a good boy as Mrs. Helena saw them off to her door to bid them final goodbye.
