The metal door to the break room swung open with a loud clang that sliced through the quiet like a blade. Sam froze. Jordan tensed, his hands still on her waist , their foreheads nearly touching. They both turned at the same time. Willow stood in the doorway , arms crossed, mouth sat in hard, flag line. Her eyes flicked between them. Sam Sam up on the bench, Jordan standing between her legs, the heat in the air was palpable. The silence dragged out like barbed wire. Well, Willow finally said her voice sharp as glass, “guess I was right about you two” Jordan straightened her didn’t move away from Sam. Willow.. No! She snapped, holding up a hand, Don’t. Don’t pretend this is innocent, I’ve been watching you sniff around her for a couple weeks like some love sick puppy, and now here we are. What is this? Some late night maintenance check? Sam hopped down off the bench, her heart pounding “ back off willow” Willow let out a bitter laugh. Oh, that’s cute. Suddenly you have a voice, took you long enough. Jordan stepped slightly in front of Sam and she pushed past him. You don’t get to speak to me like that Sam said. I know you’ve got something personal against me, and honestly I don’t care, but this.. whatever’s going on here is none of your business. Got it? Willows smile was razor thin. Oh but it is my business when two employees are breaking code of conduct in my department. Sam blinked. Seriously? Jordan’s voice turned cold, you’re gonna report us? Willows expression shifted, something smug flickered behind her eyes but there was hurt buried under it. Let’s say I’ve been keeping notes. One of you gets special treatment and it starts affecting performance, that’s when it becomes a problem. Sam narrowed her eyes, this has nothing to do with performance. You just can’t stand not being the center of attention. Willows jaw tightened. You have no idea what I’ve put into this place. You think you can just roll in, bat your eyes, and what? Take everything? Jordan took a step toward Willow , his voice low but firm. She didn’t take anything Will… You were never gonna have me, and that’s not her fault. Silence hot again. Heavy, uncomfortable. Willow stared at Jordan for a beat too long , like she wanted to say something that could still change things. Then just like that she scoffs and turned away. Whatever. You two wanna screw ip your lives, be my guest. She shoved the door open again and stormed out, hells clicking like gunshots across the concrete. Sam exhaled slowly, her hands shaking just a little. Well she said, trying to sound casual, that could have went a lot worse. Jordan turned to her , eyes full of something between awe and amusement. “Not by much.” They looked at each other other for a long moment, tension still thick, but now layered with something new.
