A calling

It took a few moments of silence before Lylah realized what she had just said. It was supposed to be a thought—one she’d bury deep and scold herself for later. But as she watched the Grand Lord’s brow lower in a subtle frown, the truth hit her: her lips had moved. She’d spoken the words aloud. Her throat worked, but words refused to come out. Her heart drummed in her ears and she wished the ground would swallow her whole. “You should get some rest,” he finally said, rising to his feet. “I’ll see you around, Little Wolf.” “Th-thank you, my lord,” Lylah stammered. Without another word, Lucas left, and as the door shut behind him, Lylah gasped, her face turning even redder. “Why the hell did I say that?” she buried her face in both palms, eyes wide as her own words replayed in her head.
