Where's Your Sense of Adventure?

“Here, let me help you old man,” said Francis.   He was helping his grandfather. The old man waited patiently in his chair, unable to move even a single muscle from the waist down.  “Francis, from where did you get that money?” asked the grandfather.   “I swindled some idiots near the bar,” said Francis.   The old man laughed.   “How’s Życie? Still as beautiful as ever?” he asked.   Francis' cheeks turned a slight red.   “You should have seen her today. She was even more lovely” said Francis.   The old man smiled. It was the sad smile that came with the curse of knowledge. A smile that stood as the only honor of the deceased love of his life.  “Kid, remember, the only thing that should ever matter in this world is your own happiness. No person, belief, or thing comes close to be worthy of sacrificing it” said the grandfather.   Francis rolled his eyes.   Francis, while without any parents or siblings, had someone he held very closely. His grandfather, after his mom and dad died, had been his everything. Życie, on the other hand, had parents, but they were not the type that one would be proud of.   She only really had her brother Nero.   Życie was arguing with her parent because she wanted Francis to be present.   “Życie, I know how much you want him to be there, but he is a commoner, the event is exclusively for royalty”, said her father.   She did not care if her father reprimanded her. She still escaped an evening ball to have fun with Francis.    Nero, who often came with her on her adventures, was too scared to go. He didn’t want to disappoint his mother too much. After all, he was the one that would inherit the family's top position from her. Życie got ready for her escape. She changed into clothes for commoners and was finally ready to leave.   Ballrooms were too boorish for her. No social event is fun if you are not going with people that are fin to hang around with. And most of the girls that went to such events were interested in Hunter stuff, not exploring.  What made her detest ballrooms was that she was born for adventure.  Życie was a person with an unsurmountable amount of curiosity. She wanted to try everything at least once.  She wanted to sail the world, explore Epsilon, and meet all sorts of people with Francis by her side.   She met Francis for the first time in the small city. After an unfortunate encounter with people desperate to become Hunters, Francis happened to swoop in and save her.    And the rest is a long friendship of fun shenanigans.   She is, according to Francis, a person that enjoys living. Every day she greets it with pleasure, as every day is going to be something fun. The price of that fun was a humble life, one where she would sacrifice the life of nobility and luxury.  Francis saw her laughing in desperate situations because of the thrill it caused. She would ignore the misery in life and smile.   She brought life to Francis’ emptiness.   They finally met in the garden of the palace.   He had sneaked in and was now enjoying the way the stars glittered in the night sky.   She gave him a very softhearted pat in the head, accompanied with a small ruffling of the hair.   “Hey” was all that he said.   “Come on, the night is young and reeks of fun,” said Życie.  “Why don’t you just lay down and enjoy this peaceful night?” said Francis.   “Francis, where’s your spirit of adventure?” said Życie.  “It’s still resting after the afternoon activities”   “I know it's not Francis, we have done this multiple times now”  “But Życie, I want to look at the stars with you tonight”   “That’s a shame, Francis. If we had gone on a fun adventure, you could have gotten a kiss from a beautiful lady”  At the mention of a kiss, Francis got up and took her hand. He had an epiphany, but he was mostly excited about the kiss.  “You said you don’t like ballrooms, right?” said Francis.  “I told you, they bore me,” said Życie.   “Let’s crash it”  “Why would I crash a party my family is making?”  To this, Francis only smiled and giggled. He had a brilliant plan.   “Życie, where’s your sense of adventure?”
