Francis did not even see her use her power.
He only realized that he had been knocked into the wall. He had broken a couple of ribs already. Nero stood to the side, not talking, simply observing.
Francis had no idea what kind of power had forced him out of the room. One moment he was about to hit the head of the family, and in the next, he was sent flying.
He started bleeding profusely.
The only reason why he managed to regain his senses was that a new feeling replaced his anger; fear. Fear can either paralyze a man or make him think. In this case, it calmed Francis down, as he realized the danger he faced.
The main head of the household was now slowly approaching him.
She was the mother of Nero and Życie. She was wearing a green, flashy dress, while the other members of the family wore a dark green. All except Życie, which was dressed in slacks.
After approaching him, she started to use her powers again.
But before that could happen, a knife suddenly came out of her stomach.
Her face went pale, as she slowly turned around and saw her own son holding the knife.
Nero’s hands were gushing red. His father stood there, in shock. Before he could move, Nero used his newly acquired power and blew him away.
It was the power to somewhat control the wind.
Francis had been shocked by what was happening. He really had thought that her brother would leave Życie to die.
He felt relief.
But when Nero looked at Francis again, the dread that he had forgotten came back in gushing waves.
His relief had turned into terror.
Before Nero raised the knife to strike his sister, Francis had already thrown a piece of the debris that was nearby.
Fortunately, it caught Nero right in the face.
As Nero staggered around and fell to the floor, Francis was already on the move.
He limped, towards the father, who had been knocked out after hitting the wall behind him. Seeing as it did not kill him, which was probably Nero’s intention, he knew that Nero could not control his powers very well yet.
Francis grabbed a piece of rock that was nearby and squashed the man’s head.
Nero was now up. He felt annoyed at what Francis had done, but he did not feel angry. In fact, the feeling that truly governed his body was a mix of indifference and excitement.
But that did not last long, as he saw the light that poured into Francis.
Nero smiled.
It was a good effort, he thought. It was the smartest thing a person could do in that situation. But the cards just had not been in Francis’ favor.
He sat there, at the top of the stairs, looking at Francis, knowing full well that Francis was still powerless.
Francis had two different ways of winning. One, he would beat Nero. Two, he would run away with Życie.
Both seemed impossible.
The first thing he needed was a weapon. And so, he started to run.
Nero summoned a gust of wind, but it did not reach Francis. Slowly, he would gain his mother’s memories and be able to fight properly.
On the other hand, Francis started to know how to navigate the house. He had not realized it yet, but it was thanks to the father. He was gaining some of his memories.
He ran towards the kitchen, as the first explosion was heard around the house. Nero was testing his powers and trying to get used to them.
As he started to use his powers to understand how to control them properly, he started to think the situation through. If he went in search for Francis, he would leave Życie and Francis might take her.
If he killed her here, Francis could run away, and that would screw up his plans.
Nero did not think of one, very obvious flaw, Francis would rather die than leave Życie behind.
The reason why he did not think of this, was because he never could understand the relationship these two shared.
Monsters had no heart with which to love.
Francis was hearing the house being destroyed. And so did the guards stationed outside, which started to panic. The captains organized themselves and their crew, and they started to send people inside.
Francis heard one turning the corner and was able to subjugate him and take his rifle.
He now had a chance.
He killed the guard and before he could head towards the noise, another deafening boom was heard.
The wall came crumbling down on top of him. He was buried under the rubble, but he dared not move.
If he did, he might be found.
It was, coincidentally, the perfect cover.
He even had a small hole from where he could breathe.
BOOOOOOM.
A guard landed right on his little hole. His face was staring right at Francis, but he knew instantly that the guard was dead.
He did not understand how the power to control the wind could be so destructive. Well, some of nature's most destructive forces are wind. Nero was creating tornado-like winds like it was nothing.
All of the house had been pretty much destroyed, and the guards now saw that it was the young master who was causing all the destruction.
If Nero had his mother’s powers, that meant that only meant one thing, he had killed her.
Suddenly, chaos brewed. It was almost like a civil war, between guards that decided to be loyal to Nero, and guards that were loyal to his deceased mother.
The guards had never been given a chance to communicate deeply with each other, as to avoid uprisings, but that backfired immensely, as they had started to kill each other.
And Życie, among all of the chaos, was not someone to stand by.
