The moment Louis saw the light, he knew what had to be done.
The knights that had been commissioned for the project were staring in disbelief at the glowing ray that was luminating the city.
Louis instantly thought that the ray would disintegrate the glass material keeping the ocean out of the city, but much to his surprise it did not.
The city was built to stand against the Gods' attacks.
At least, from the outside.
Louis ordered all the knights to prepare for combat. He had a small force of 3,000. He then told them their orders, to help the citizens evacuate and the rest to go towards the light.
The knights started to mobilize, as the different captains decided which squads would perform which tasks.
Louis grabbed May’s hand and started to head towards the light.
By the time he got close and climbed a building to get a better look, the light had died down.
All that remained was an angel. This angel took proper form, unlike Louis’ half transformation. Its head was lowered, so that her white hair covered her face entirely.
Louis was staring at it in disbelief. He then saw the people in the city either cowering in fear, running away, or staring at it.
Normally, people would have gotten closer to it, but these people hated the Gods. They worshipped no one.
The knights were making slow progress of getting the civilians as far away as possible.
Louis started to check the surrounding areas. He did this whenever he could not come up with a plan.
The ray had disintegrated whatever it had been in. For a more accurate idea, it was a 1km radius from the angel until where Louis was that was flattened.
He then saw that the soldiers were facing it in formation, the fear in their eyes was not letting them think hard enough to save their skin.
“KNIGHTS, STOP BEING SUCH COWARDS AND STAND TALL” He screamed towards them.
Every single knight had their attention towards Louis. He now spoke like a king, as he had whenever he needed people to trust him.
“Knights sheath your swords. You will only draw them if it starts to attack. For now, face it with your shields. Surround it and make sure that every single space between you and the knight next to you is covered. I do not care which squad or company you belong to. Right now, all I care is that you protect the city from the monster. Every captain come and give me your report.” Louis ordered.
Surprisingly, the knights did not hesitate to follow his command. He was expecting more resistance, but it seems like they were well disciplined, even if they lacked actual combat experience.
The captain of each squad came up. Even though he would now cover the angel with knights, trapping it in a circle, every knight was not in the formation of their captains.
Louis decided that he would have to take control of the entire situation as much as possible. Leading each of the captains as much as possible.
They set up their base of operations there. Each captain was given precise, written order of what they must do. Since the angel was not moving, he decided that time would not be the biggest issue here.
He wanted them to send someone of their squad to report, sharing information would be a must.
In that moment, the businesswoman he had talked with before showed herself in the top of the building.
She was wearing armor befitting the beauty of the city. She had a somewhat terrible ponytail, as if her appearance was the last thing she would be worried about. But this only exalted how beautiful she looked.
Louis and May were staring at her.
She brought with her two more men, which seemed like her escorts, and the size difference made Louis laugh.
“Officer small, reporting for duty?” asked Louis in a sarcastic tone.
She offered a small smile.
“If you can laugh, that means that the situation is not as grim as one would think” she told him.
She had the icy voice of authority now, instead of the more formal language of business. The soldiers behind her were carrying a big box, which was a piece of technology Louis would have dreamed of having in the battlefield, a small radio.
After a brief explanation of how it worked, Louis then ordered each of the captains to take a communicator, and to remain in contact.
Louis looked at the angel again and started to tell the woman his thoughts.
“It has not moved. Most of the citizens have been able to move towards the edges of the city. At the very least, it has not killed anyone besides the men that were in the factory. We arrived here in exactly 13 minutes, yet despite this it has not made a move” Louis reported.
She nodded.
Louis noticed how grim her expression was. He thought that it was normal she was terrified. The Gods have been the ones that wanted these people dead.
“At the very least, I do not think it’s a God. It definitively looks like an angel. One that for some reason, has remained passive. I have not seen her face, and nobody has told me of the identity of the woman. Judging by her size, it must be a little girl” Louis told her.
“What makes you think that?” she asked him.
“Angels always take the body of humans” he answered.
The grip on the handle of her sword tightened. These people had a heavy dislike for anything divine.
“Well, right now that does not matter. Right now, we have to think about how to deal with the situation” she told him.
“I think we can handle it, but it all depends on whether they make it or not” Louis said.
“Them?” she asked.
At that moment, the first member of the group appeared.
He was wearing a basic white shirt and navy-blue jeans. His blue hair matched the city rather well. He looked a bit agitated, but he still had the same level of confidence he always had.
“Yo” Alexander greeted him.
Louis smiled, he was happy to finally meet the closest thing to a friend here in the dungeon.
May gave him a huge hug. It was weird to see a little emo kid giving hugs.
“Have you seen the others?” Louis asked giving him the hardest slap in the hand he could manage.
“Yeah, Lucius is down there, but he seems like he’s going crazy” Alexander told him.
“Then let's go see him” Louis told him.
But the moment they turned their backs on the angel, everything went to hell.
The angel went on the offensive.
