The Owl's Head

621 Words
The giant owl had frightening speed.   Especially for something so large.   I felt Ana’s arms around me.   My heart started to pump rapidly.   I felt,   Determined.   I instantly started running towards it.   I take out my g*n and shoot.   Wherever the bullets land, random assortments of birds separate, as if letting the bullet pass through, and then they come back together.   The good thing about shooting something so big was that I don’t have to change the trajectory.   The issue was how can you kill something that doesn’t seem to bleed?  I already ran out of bullets.  Six bullets are not enough.   I keep running towards it and pick up another g*n from the floor.   Why reload when you have all these weapons around?    The bird was very close now.   It opened its beak.   I dove to the right, barely missing its mouth, and tried to grab onto its side.   The bird, noticing that it is not eating me, decided to fly upwards and leave me on the ground.  And there it left me.   I had tried to get on top of it, but my hands had not grasped hair, they had pulled birds out of its body.  The Owl screeches again and sets its eyes on me.   “Why can’t you just run away?” I groaned.   This time though, the dive was a lot faster.   So fast I barely had time to react.   And just like that, the bird tore my entire left arm out.   Blood started spilling on the floor, joining the already b****y floor from the battle.   The pain was unbearable.   This was not the first time it has happened to me, but it was different.   It was surprising how much a little mistake costs.   For reacting a millisecond too slow, I lose an entire arm.  Another millisecond slower,  Mi life.  I use my powers, and my arm grows back.   I should really start eating a lot more.    “Is that all you can do?” asked Ana.    “Shut up”   “Always useful only after the damage is done”   “I said shut up.”   “Lucius would be alive if only you had power”  “SHUT UP”   “If only you had power” she repeated.  Ana was grabbing my face with her hands. She was looking at me with hatred and regret.   The deep hatred and regret I have carried with me since Lucius.   Before I could come up with a response, the owl did another sweep.   I barely had time to move my face.   My entire right side was almost completely gone.   Good thing that is not where my heart is.  My body started healing again, as the owl circled around.   “Right now,” I said.   Ana was nowhere to be seen.   “At this moment”   The owl was now looking at me again.  “In this scenario”   It screeched again, clearly annoyed by my survival.   “In this fight”  I dropped both of my guns and picked up two others I found.    “I am someone that will survive”   I jumped before it even began its descent.   It dove so fast that it caught me on top of its head.   It started to ascend, and I started to roll out of its back.   I tried to grab it, but I was only grabbing birds that had stuck to its body.   I was about to slip off, but I shoved my entire arm inside the bird.   Apparently, that worked.   The birds inside the body just parted out of the way.  I and the bird started to fly high towards the sky.   Okay.   I am now on its back.   Now.   How do I kill it?
