The men were dying slower than Louis had initially thought.
But, in comparison, the creatures’ numbers were pretty much unscathed.
At least, in confirmed kills, they only had one.
But it was hard to tell if others had died, with the heavy blood rain.
That was simply Louis's suspicion.
Something was starting to annoy him.
Why had the creature eaten the shield first and then the soldier?
The creature could have just eaten him whole.
Another thought circled around his brain.
If a thing that slender could eat so many soldiers.
Where were they going?
He hoped that after this was over they wouldn’t see piles of number two all around the castle.
Just think about how easily disease would spread.
His body shuddered.
This is a dungeon, he reminded himself.
There must be some trick to it.
“Nothing is going to happen if I stay here contemplating,” he told himself.
Seeing the creatures firsthand is the best way to acquire data in this situation.
And maybe he could kill some more of them as well.
Before he started towards the wall, he heard the gasp of the nobles behind him.
If you saw a man with a sword wound dead on the floor, another man holding an unsheathed blade, and nobody else around him.
You would probably accuse the man of murder.
And that is what the nobles did.
They had seen this man kill not once, but thrice in the span of a couple of minutes his own kind.
They were completely terrified.
But that was not what Louis was thinking.
All that he could think about was that they had not gone to fight.
They are nobles, he thought. In our world, nobles are Hunters. Physical power to them is everything. Here, political power is more important. He did need them to fight.
“Every noble here that does not fight will be killed immediately by me. So, you have two options. Go to the wall, and die to a creature, or die right here and now” he told them.
They stood their ground.
But not with courage.
More like an animal that is so afraid that it ends up not being able to move. Their mind a state of nothingness.
An excuse had finally arrived swiftly at my hand, thought Louis.
He started to walk towards the nobles.
Any noble standing in his way was killed then and there.
Some of them did manage to run away.
They would be killed sooner or later by a creature.
And most of them would be labeled as traitors to the crown, running away in a time of need.
After all, he was the hero who would save this kingdom.
And who would believe an accusation of the hero selected by the Gods being a murderer?
The Halo effect can be such a powerful weapon.
Louis finally reached the wall.
The first thing that he thought was that things weren't going so badly as he once thought.
The creatures couldn’t really climb the walls, and they weren’t smart enough to breach the gate.
Another screech getting closer and closer.
Suddenly, it was getting farther and farther.
This time, it flew above him.
And it one of the watchtowers on the other side of the castle.
“Knight Berg reporting to the honorary Hero,” said a nearby knight.
At that second, every single soldier and knight froze and looked at him.
He nodded, looking at the knight, and asked what the situation was.
“Well sire, the creatures are having a hard time scaling the walls. Our men keep shooting arrows at them, but we are not exactly sure how effective they are. Finally, it seems as if something or someone is throwing creatures. They have only thrown two creatures, but we should prepare for more,” said the knight.
“Switch to rocks. The heavier they are, the better. Also, I think you’re right. They most likely have some intelligence to be able to produce that,” said Louis.
The knight nodded and started shouting orders.
Louis wondered quickly if this man had suddenly taken power and control over this section of the wall.
He enjoyed seeing someone not afraid of taking control.
It showed confidence.
He then continued inspecting each section of the wall.
In the beginning, he was noticed early because some of these men had seen him and his blade.
On other sections of the wall, word had not spread so quickly, or at least none of the people had seen him.
But that did not matter.
On the section where nobody knew who the hero was, he would raise his blade, illuminate the sky, and kill some creatures.
After this battle, he would be recognized as a Hero by any who fought on that wall.
