CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Stacey's P.O.V

During lunch break I had offered to get take out for both Donovan and I. I know that I could have just placed an order from our favourite restuarant but I had offered to go there myself and thankfully Donovan was too busy to object.

I had received a call earlier that day from Ryan asking me to meet him up for lunch so I had accepted, what better time to meet up with him if not during lunch break so with the excuse of going to buy our lunch I had gone to meet up with Ryan. He was already there waiting for me when I arrived.

After our usual greetings with pecks on both cheeks he asked what I would like to eat but I declined that I am getting take out for both Donovan and I. He had frowned after hearing that but said nothing perhaps he didn't want to upset me by saying anything but I could see the displeasure or was it dissapointment in his eyes.

I squeezed his hands which were resting on the table, come on Ry don't feel bad okay I had promised to eat lunch with him, how about we have lunch together one of these days, his face lit up.

How about tommorow? he asked looking at me hopefully, I accepted, at least we can be done with lunch before evening because of my date with Donovan. I quickly nodded, tomorrow is good cause I will be going to my parent's place on sunday afternoon I say.

A waiter came to our table to ask us what we will like to order so I ordered for the food I needed for take out while Ryan ordered for a simple dish. As the waiter left to arrange for our food I looked at Ryan who looked like he had something to discuss with me, he kept rubbing the back of his neck and he looked nervous, it was obvious lunch was just an excuse to see me.

What is it Ryan? you look like you have got something to say to me, come on spit it out. He laughed nervously as he looked at me, you seam to know me well babe but I wanted until we had lunch before saying anything to you but since you aint eating here there is no need to wait any longer.

I was getting nervous myself, what was it that he wanted to say to me that couldn't wait. Tell me whats wrong? I asked. he sighed, then held my hands, babe I know that I had told you the last time that I will support your decision in dating Donovan but it seams like I will take back my words, I stared at him in confusion.

But why the sudden change of heart? you are my best friend and your approval matters alot to me. He nodded, look Stacey he is not right for you he said as I withdrew my hands from him, why would you say that I replied looking at my hands that I clasped on my lap.



Take a look at these tabloids, he said placing different papers on the table both old and recent papers. What are these papers? I asked, my heart was already beating very fast, knowing that the papers has to do with Donovan. I didn't want to read nor see anything about him, yes I know that the man was no saint and he had already confirmed that to me but he had told me the reason why he played around all these years, so why should I judge a man about his past cause nobody was perfect afterall.

Hearing about his womanizing ways was different from reading and seeing pictures of all those women he had had s****l relationships with, and I was not ready to give myself such a mental torture. I am willing to look past the fact that he was a casanova.

Without touching nor looking at the papers heaped on the table I asked Ryan, why have you brought all these to me? to prove a point or what, I already told you that I don't care about his past, I will only judge him from his present actions.

Don't be stupid Stacey, Ryan almost yelled making me gasp while looking at him, he was unable to hide the anger in his eyes while glaring at me.

I am telling you that the man is not good for you, even with all these evidence before you, you still believe he is perfect for you? I sighed then breathed in and out, there was no use loosing my temper nor arguing with him I just stared at him while he spoke to me with annoyance, his anger was justified even at times I wondered why I still hope that we can make our relationship work and why is it that I am willing to give him a chance. What was the probability that Donovan will not cheat on me seeing that for years now he had not been with one woman but many women.

Say something, Ryan said almost yelling again, what do you want me to say Ry I already told you that I know all this things, so why would I want to see the faces of the women he had had his flings with. Ryan gave a mirthless laugh as I looked intently at him wondering what was funny to him.

Oh! you know all these and yet you still wanna be with him? I nodded. So have you seen his latest fling he said throwing a tabliod in front of me making me look at the cover page, it was a recent news about Donovan and the mayor's daughter. I held my breath, I read what was written and the story said: it seams that there is a blooming romance going on between the sought after billionaire bachelor Donovan Green and the mayor's daughter Catherine as both has been seen on several occasions together, could it be that these two have something serious going on as they have been close friends since high school. I couldn't read any further as I pushed the paper away from me.

The woman's face looked familiar as I tried to remember where I have seen her face before then it suddenly clicked, I sighed and looked at Ryan who was watching me very closely. Ry I understand that you love and care for me alot hence why you are always looking out for me, I will do the same if I was in your shoes, that's also how much I love you, you mean alot to me, I sighed again, but believe me when I say I will not change the decision that I have made regarding Donovan, he is a good man Ry, even before we confessed to each other I have seen it with my own eyes babe, life made him become the casanova he is today, he was betrayed by the woman he loved and that made him shut his heart towards love.

While I was talking Ryan was looking at me as if I have lost it but I won't blame him, who in their right mind will still support a man that have been with countless woman, I should be running away from him but here I am still defending him in front of my best friend.

Have you lost it Stacey, I smiled no Ry, that woman is his friend since high school there is nothing going on between them I replied. Is that what he told you? that he is not having an affair with her? take a look at this picture, they are kissing each other and I looked as the woman had her lips pressed to Donovan's lips. I will not jump into conclusion till I have spoken to Donovan I said as Ryan was shaking his head as if I have lost it.

I think I have lost it, was I that crazy inlove with Donovan that I have shut my eyes to the truth before me? no, I will speak to him first before I make my decision, I have made a promise to him that I will not judge him till I have heard from him and beside she was the same woman whom Donovan told me he will speak to me about, could it be it was about this matter before me?

I was already feeling very uncomfortable with the conversation, I have to speak with Donovan immediately, thankfully the waiter approached us placing the takeouts on the table which was neatly packaged, Ryan had remove all the tabloids from the table while wearing a frown on his face. I got up and went to pay for the food using my card instead of Donovan's black card which he had given to me today before I left to buy lunch, after making payment I went back to our table, Ryan was eating slowing while still wearing that frown on his face.

I sat down then looked at him while he was focused on his food chewing slowly, Ry I say leaning forward, please trust me okay, I am not a fool inlove, have some faith in me that I know what I am doing. He looked up at me and I could see the sadness in his eyes as he looked intensely at me. I gave him a small smile, cheer up babe its not like we are getting married today I laughed trying to make light of the situation, I know you do not trust him in any way but at least do trust me okay?

He sighed then leaned back on his seat without saying anything, he rubbed his neck and then stared at me like I said something unbelievable to him what about the recent rumours what are you going to do about it? he asked.

I will speak to him about it and he already warned me about this, that's why I have to speak to him first before jumping into conclusions I say checking my time, it was almost over for lunch break.

What do you think your parents will say when they find out that you two have something going, you know how far your parents went in order to keep you away from the public.

I know babe I say frowning, when the time is right I will tell them everything but for now we aint officially together yet.

I didn't want to increase Ryan's suspicion on Donovan by telling him that we are going to keep our relationship a secret for now. It will only make Ryan dislike Donovan more and suspect him for hiding something, which I myself will need an answer from him today, I can't wait till tomorrow due to obvious reasons.

I don't want my parents to get to know about us for now that was why I consented in the first place to keep our relationship a secret. I know deep down in my heart what I feel for Donovan and heaven help me that he also feels the same way for me but I will not hesitate to cut ties with him if I find out he has been playing me.

Ryan snapped his fingers in my face, earth to you, what are you thinking of? I laughed just thinking of something , I say. Tell me Ry how were you able to get all these tabliods about Donovan?

He chuckled while sipping his drink, lets just say that I have my ways. Hmm.. I see, mind to share I asked teasing him. He shoke his head nah.. always have in mind that I will always be watching Donovan and if he as much as try to cheat on you in any way you will leave him promise me that he said looking very serious. I scoffed, whatever you say dad I replied before laughing. I am being serious babe, promise me.



Okay Ry I promise you, I say raising my eye brows. Fine he said after looking silently at me for a while.I wondered what was going through his mind.

Anyways I gotta run now see you tomorrow for our lunch I say, Yeah sure he replied standing up as we hugged each other, do take care of yourself alright, he said before pecking my cheeks. You too I smiled before grabbing the take outs and walking away.

It took me some minutes before I arrived at D&G Company, after parking my car at the parking lot I walked hurriedly inside the building, I will have to confront Donovan about everything I can't wait till tomorrow and I don't wamt to judge him before hearing from him at least I had promised him that. After punching in the number to our office floor, after a while the elevator dinged and I stepped out of it. I ran into Sarah, Donovan's secretary who had just stepped out of her office carrying some files, my gush I was not in the mood to have any conversations with her, ever since that day we had that conversation about me not being fired yet, I had tried to avoid her. She must have been very dissapointed to see that Donovan haven't fired me yet like she predicted.

Oh, there you are miss Stacey, you must have gone out to get lunch she said as if it wasn't obvious. The take outs was enough evidence. I nodded without responding to her, thinking that she will leave me the hell alone I was just not in the mood for this conversation, as I made to pass her, she held my wrist, making me look at her sharply , she quickly removed her hands. sorry, my bad am just being nosy you know, but how can only you finish all those food? she asked.

I sighed, well if you must know Mr. Green asked me to get them for him. Her eyes widened upon hearing that, making me wonder what the problem is. He must really like you alot she said giving me a strange look, he had never asked his past P.As to buy him lunch themselves, I have been the only one making his coffee and now he really asked you to buy him lunch, hmmm, you must be really special.

I gave her a wide smile, lets just say he trust me, I replied with that same smile on my face. Hmm.. probably she spat, then she scowled at me saying nothing before walking away.

What the heck was her problem, I shrugged then made my way to Donovan's office, I forgot to knock as I just pushed the door open before walking inside his office. I was about to say something when I noticed that he was not alone, he was sitting with another man on the couch while they were sipping on their drink, they both looked towards my direction when I entered and I stared at the man who looked vaguely familiar, I think I have seen him somewhere before but I can't place my fingers where I have seen him.

As I walked towards them Donovan gave me a warm smile which I returned as the man was staring at me like he wanted to undress me, when I truned to look at him he smirked making me scrunch my brows together, Hi I say to him he nodded before giving me a lopsided smile, Donovan stood up from the couch and made his way towards me and before I knew it he kissed me on the lips in front of the man as if marking his territory. Probably he had noticed how the man was staring at me, I smiled then placed the food on his desk.

Who is the lovely lady? the man's deep voice asked bringing our focus back to him, Donovan smiled then turned to him, remember that night at the bar where I helped a lady from being assaulted he asked making the man furrow his brows in confusion then as if a light switch came on in his brain, his eyes widened as he stared at me before pointing towards me, you mean she is the same woman he asked making Donovan chuckle, That's right Ethan Donovan said. I smiled shyly then went about arranging our lunch on a centre table that was inside the office.

What is she doing here? he asked making Donovan grunt, isn't it obvious, she works for me he said, the man Ethan turned to him in confusion. Are you shitting me dude, how many bosses kiss their employess on the lips like that he asked giving us both a quizzical look. Donovan rolled his eyes, well if you must know we are together but not dating yet but she also works for me as my P.A he said dishing out some food, come on babe lets eat Donovan said, you too Ethan this is so good he said while chewing on his food.

Dude you and I really have alot to talk about you know? the guy Ethan said while dishing out his own food, I didn't know she was these beautiful, damn man, you really have eyes for good things, Donovan turned and glared at him, f**k you Ethan you talk as if she is a piece of ornament, she is off limit dude. Donovan continued to glare at him.

Stacey I say, huh?.. he asked. I mean my name is Stacey I replied making him grin, he is also very good looking and I remembered he was the same man who had watched over that pervert as we waited for the police to arrive. He was almost as good looking as Donovan and he looked dashing in his suit. Are all of Donovan's friends this good looking? I bet they are, cause Donovan himself was equally drop dead gorgeous even a blind man could attest to that.

I smiled to myself as I chewed slowly before raising my head to see that Ethan was watching me closely, he looked like he was about to say something but instead kept silent. As our eyes met he smiled at me.

Keep looking at her like that man and I will pluck your eyes out Donovan suddenly said making us both laugh. No offense pal you can't prosecute a man for admiring someone this beautiful can you?. Donovan chuckled then continued with his lunch. After lunch I cleared off the table with the help of Donovan which made his friend even more surprised that he was helping me clear the table. I went inside his ensuite bathroom in his office to wash my hands as I came back Donovan kissed both my cheeks before thanking me for getting lunch, Ethan thanked me too before winking at me making me laugh.

It was nice to meet you mr. Ethan I say smiling widely at him, as I had the intention of excusing them both, whatever I had to discuss with Donovan can wait till later.

Please call me Ethan no need for the formalities he responded with a smile on his face. I nodded, he seamed very nice and I couldnt help but like him. I wondered how long he and Donovan has been friends, did he also know about Donovan's pains in the past.

I have to go now Ethan said standing up its already past lunch and I have to meet up with someone in an hours time he said . Donovan who was already sitting on his seat stood to give his friend a bro hug as Ethan whispered in his ears making Donovan laugh before nodding see you man he said patting Ethan at the back. Ethan turned to me then smiled warmly at me, I will see you soon Stacey, I believe when next we meet it will not be in an office he said making me confused. Ah..he said laughing don't think too much about it then he was gone making me look after him in confusion.

I flinched when I felt Donovan wrap his arms around my waist from behind before kissing behind my ears, making me close my eyes, he licked the shell of my ears making me shudder. I turned around to face him as he had this triumphant look in his eyes.
