THE ORIGINAL DOOR

THE HOUSE THAT NEVER FORGOT EPISODE 4 — THE ORIGINAL DOOR Daniel stared at his reflection. It smiled before he did. He stepped backward. The reflection remained still, then raised one finger to its lips. Daniel whispered, “Who are you?” The reflection pointed toward the basement. A c***k appeared across the mirror. Behind the glass was a hallway he had never seen. Daniel touched the c***k. The mirror opened like a door. Cold air rushed over him. He entered. The hallway contained forty-seven doors. Each door carried his name. Daniel opened the first. Inside, he saw himself as a child, sitting beside Emily. She was crying. “Why are you showing me this?” Daniel asked. The house answered through the walls. “Because you forgot the beginning.” He opened the second door. A hospital room. The third. A laboratory. The fourth. A funeral. Daniel stopped. Every door contained a memory he had lost. At the end stood one final door. It had no number. Only one word: ORIGINAL. Daniel reached for the handle. Before he touched it, footsteps approached from behind. He turned. The girl stood at the hallway entrance. She looked frightened. “Don't open that door,” she said. Daniel frowned. “Why?” She swallowed. “Because whoever comes out won't be you.” The handle turned by itself. And someone inside whispered Daniel's name. The house remembered his footsteps. The walls waited for him. Something moved upstairs. Daniel could hear it breathing nearby. Again, tonight.
