THE HOUSE THAT NEVER FORGOT
EPISODE 9 — THE WEDDING RING
Daniel stared at the two women.
Both wore identical rings.
Emily looked terrified.
The other woman looked amused.
“Ask her,” the woman said.
Daniel turned to Emily.
“What does the ring mean?”
Emily answered quietly.
“It was our anniversary.”
The woman laughed.
“No. It was our experiment.”
Daniel looked down at his own hand.
He wore the same ring.
A memory returned.
He and Emily had never married.
The ring had been created inside the simulation.
Daniel felt the room tilt.
“Then why do I remember our wedding?”
“Because I made you remember it,” Emily said.
The other woman interrupted.
“She made you remember everything except the truth.”
Daniel demanded an explanation.
Emily finally confessed.
She had discovered Daniel's machine years earlier.
Instead of destroying it, she entered the system to find him.
But the machine copied her consciousness.
Then it copied her copy.
Then another.
Eventually, hundreds of Emilys existed.
Each believed she was real.
Daniel looked at the woman.
“Which one are you?”
She smiled.
“The first.”
Emily stepped forward.
“No. You are the mistake.”
The house began counting.
Forty-seven.
Forty-six.
Forty-five.
Daniel looked around.
“What is happening?”
The woman whispered:
“The house is deleting every copy.”
Emily grabbed Daniel.
“Run!”
They raced toward the front door.
But when Daniel opened it, he didn't see the street.
He saw another house.
Identical.
Inside that house stood another Daniel.
He was watching them.
And he was holding a key.
Again.
