Forty-One
Carl arrived at City Hospital right on nine-fifty and made his way up to the nursery ward with the baby capsule. Nina was sitting in the chair beside the bed, all packed and ready to go when he walked into her room, with Sophie asleep in her arms. Carl placed the capsule on the bed and bent over and gave Nina a kiss.
Nina gently placed Sophie into the capsule. ‘I’ve signed the forms, honey. We’re clear to go. Come on. I can’t wait to get out of here so I can sleep in my own bed, and not have someone waking me up every minute to see if I’m still alive.’
‘I thought you liked it here?’
