Such a first impression!

1643 Words
Next morning, I woke up with my cellphone alarm screaming like crazy. Last night I tried to sleep early so I could prepare myself for the day ahead, but the truth is, I was rolling in bed until two in the morning... I could see that Angie was getting angry at me, so I tried not to move and stood staring at the ceiling while my amazing brain showed me a movie of all the things that could possibly happen on my first day at school. It took me a long time to fall asleep and now the result is that I'm really late and feeling like s**t. Angie is ready and looking amazing as usual. She could have woken me up, but I guess that's her revenge for last night. I can't complain anyway. I probably even deserve it and she seems to be enjoying it, because now she's staring at me like I am some kind of loser. Anyways, I have no time to think about it now. I wish I could shower but I can't, so, I just put on the clothes I chose yesterday. I put on regular high waist blue jeans and a purple gipsy type of top that keeps my shoulders exposed. I look at myself in the mirror and I feel really unpleasant with the dark circles under my eyes. I think saying that I look like a dead person would offend the dead. They would probably get revenge on me for that... so, I just gonna say that I look horrible! Arghhh... Such a first impression I'm going to make! I have no time to put makeup on, so I try to help myself look a little more presentable by putting my long, black and curly hair in a ponytail. I fail miserable because my hair makes his own decisions and today he decided not to help me... but I tried and that gonna be it... Angie has already left, so I use the freedom of not having judgemental eyes on me to brush my teeth and run out to my class. I have six minutes to cover a distance that normally takes fifteen minutes to walk... No chance I am gonna be able to do it, but I gotta try anyway. Hopefully, they are gonna still be presenting themselves and no one will notice me getting a little late... For God sakes, it's the first day anyway. It's supposed to be nice and friendly... I gonna keep the positive thoughts and everything is going to work out! Positive thoughts my ass... from all the possibilities that my stupid brain showed me last night, none was so bad as the reality! After running for my life to get to class, I get in and see everybody sitting quietly while a professor explains about what seems to be high-risk pregnancies. I'm so shocked and embarrassed. I mean it's the first day... we are not supposed to have a real class. Where is all the socialization people loves doing at first meetings? What's wrong with this people? I'm sweating like a pig, my body is on fire and I hope in God that I don't stink. Besides that, everyone looks back to see who was stupid enough to get late on the first day and everything looks and feels worse when the teacher stares at me and points to the only seat available in front of him... Please, kill me now! With no other option, I did the shameful walk towards the front seats, passing by all the other students while listening to them whispering, and at that moment, I knew I became the weirdest in the class. When I got to the front, the teacher, a man in his fiftys, using an old-style glass frame that almost makes his eyes disappear, called my attention and asked my name. - "I apologize for being late Sir. My name is Annabelle Marie." - "Oh, don't apologize Miss., someone needs to serve as an example to the class, this time gonna be you!" - "What do you mean? I don't understand..." I said in my almost non-existent voice. He turns to the class and says in a loud voice, making sure everybody listens to what he has to say. - "Well class, since the princess here decided to give us the honor of her presence, I would love to say that she is going to be the first assigned monitor of my subject. That position comes with no salary, a lot of overtime to organize my class materials and lasts until a new student does something stupid enough to make me punish them. Congratulations Miss Annabelle! Now, I would like to remind you all that we just have adults here and if you can't be responsible enough to get to class on time you probably shouldn't even be here in the first place!" I hear the class laughing and all I want is to hide myself. I walked to my seat and tried my best not to cry... I know I f****d up being late for my first class but he really needed to be so cruel? Such an asshole, that's what he is. I make a huge effort to pay attention to the class, but I feel so horrible that all I want is this class to be over. When the class is finally dismissed, Mr. Asshole, as I gonna call him on my head, gave me a huge pile of paper to organize. Now I need to finish this before I can leave. Such a good day!!! I complete the task he gives me and leave everything on his table. I'm starving because I didn't eat anything all day, so I went into the cafeteria to buy something. I decided on a sandwich and orange juice, but since I'm feeling very conscious of myself after everything that happened today, I decided to go to my room and eat there. Surprisingly, Angie isn't in our room, so I can just enjoy a very appreciated moment of peace. I eat my food and decide to face something that I have been avoiding for the last week. I need to find a job. I have a scholarship, so I don't need to pay for the classes, but I still need to pay for my personal expenses, materials, etc, etc... Since I don't have a family to help me, I will need to find a job that pays enough to keep me here, but it needs to be something that is not going to interfere with my class hours either. I turn on my laptop and start searching for jobs that could potentially work for me. I applied for a few part-time positions, hoping that some of them would call me back. One week later, twenty dollars in my wallet is all I have. No one called me back for a job and I'm really worried about what I'm going to do... The only good thing is that Mr. Asshole found another student to pick on, so I'm free from assisting with his classes. I still have no friends at all. Angie talks with me just the essential and she almost never sleeps in our room. She is dating someone that I never saw, but since we are not friends that's not surprising at all. After today's class I am going to walk around the city for a while, give some of my CV to bars and restaurants. Maybe one of them accepts me as a waitress or something else. My options now are really non-existent. I don't even have money to go back to my country. I'm totally f****d up if I don't get a job. From all the places I have been, the answer was always the same: They told me that they had no positions available. Now I'm feeling really desperate...The last place I'm going is a one-hour walk distance from the university. It is a place called Eddye's fries and is kind of a bar that sells fried chicken and all types of fried things... It doesn't look horrible, but it doesn't look fancy either. I talked with the owner and he said they were looking for new girls to work there... I saw the waitress walking around with a very revealing uniform: tight shorts that almost looked like underwear, tops that only cover the breasts and that made me feel a bit uncomfortable imagining myself wearing that, but since I'm desperate, I accepted the position and I'm going to start tomorrow evening. Another week passed by and it looked like things are slowly getting better. I had to do a project for one of my classes which put me in contact with two other students, so now I kind of have two possible friends... That's an advance, right? At work, it being surprisingly good, the girls are nice and had no dramas till now, and besides the very exposing uniform that made me feel weird for few days the girls were very supportive and helped me to feel more safe around the clients. Today was looking like a regular evening at Eddye's, few customers, most of them guys, drinking beer and eating fried chicken. No one being disrespectful until now, but it's just 19h on a friday night, we still have time for asshole stuff. Suddenly, the door bell that announces someone is entering sounds and we get prepared for the new clients. It's my turn, so I give a few minutes for the clients to get installed, then I walk to the table to get the order. I see three big guys dressed in suits that looks expensive. Definitely not the typical guys that come here. Maybe it is my lucky night and I'm going to get a big tip. Yeaaah! I already feel better.
