Day TwoThe next morning, Joey was up in time to see Bill before he set off for work. Hugging his father close, he reminded him it was now only ten days until Christmas. “Have a lovely time at the birthday party son,” Bill told him. “And enjoy your trip to see the trains. I promise to telephone you every day.” Giving his son a final hug, he set off for the office. Bill's mother was relieved at how much better he looked. She believed it was something to do with the chat he'd had with his father. Though, truthfully, John had told her nothing about it. “Man's talk,” was all he would say.
